Each Nintendo employee to generate $1.6m

Shame they don't get to keep it though...
Each Nintendo employee is set to make more money for the company this year than the average Goldman Sachs employee did during its record-breaking 2007, the Financial Times reports.

Nintendo employs less than 3,000 permanent staff, each of whom takes home an average annual salary of $90,900 a year. Assuming the platform holder achieves its net profit target of 410 billion yen ($3.9bn) in 2008, each employee will generate the company $1.6 million in profit, according to the paper's calculations.

In comparison, the average Goldman Sach's employee generated $1.24 million in profit for the firm before tax and pay in 2007, and received a $660,000 pay packet. The equivalent figure for Google is reportedly $626,000.

The report says that Nintendo is able to make so much money with so few staff because it relies on outsourcing for all hardware manufacturing and even a number of its high-profile games.

Nintendo said that the Financial Times' figures may underestimate the company's profitability.

Well that's capitalism for you. Rolling Eyes

when you consider the out sourced Chinese workers who would be earning about Ł80 a month it certainly is.

very fair point. Sad thing is if you work out the number of Wii's sold in that time with the total profit, Nintendo are knocking units out for about Ł25 each. It's costing nearly as much to make the DS as the Wii. Hopefully Microsofts move will force them to reduce their prices.

Yeah, but you have to admit that it's hugely unlikely - certainly not until after Christmas....I suspect it'll be sold out again.

In this current economic climate, I wonder how sales will go this christmas for Nintendo.

The thing is, the average person on the street picking up a games console for the first time or first time in years is still going to be impressed with the Wii graphics.

And also they are not all graphics whores like alot of people on here. Not that their's owt wrong with that of course.

I still think the wii would outsell the 360 and PS3 even if they were all close in price. Apart from an absolutely awful last six months, my wii has been a blast. Though I find multiformat games I'm more likely to get on my 360 (apart from PES) as they are likely to have s**te motion controls stuck on.
