The latest Pokémon instalment on Nintendo DS, Pokémon Platinum has evaporated from Japanese shop shelves, selling nearly a million copies in just two days.
According to figures from Media Create (via NeoGAF) the latest Pocket Monster entry shifted 963,000 copies in the week ending September 14 - easily outselling every other game in the top ten combined.
Platinum is a spin-off of the other DS Pokémons Diamond and Pearl with new critters and an expanded story. The Japanese love it.

I really don't see what anyone sees in Pokemon, personally I think its a pile of wank! There was a guy in my office who loved it, he had all the video games and collected the cards and he was 36! What I find more surprising though is a 360 game at no 3 in the jap top 10 and not one single PS3 game, yet the japs still managed to get 2 PS2 games in there!

360 outsold the Wii last week in Japan I think. CVG made an article on it yesterday I think

They did. And the game sold a respectable 90,000 too. More interesting to see how it does next week though - the 360, not Infinite Undiscovery.
How are these Pokemon games still selling? They've basically been the same with a few bells and whistles since the GameBoy Colour version (possibly before that!).

Because if you dont catch them all, you and all your loved ones will die. So says the nintendo news letter anyway.
Love pokemon red and blue was amazed with yellow having your own pikachu loved silver gold and crystal pokemon ruby and sapphire were awesome and emerald was a fantastic mixture
Then they re-released leaf green and fire red which are the best pokemon games of recent time
Then diamond and pearl came out.......and i just didnt get it - there were too many pokemon now and the new ones just seemed weird and pointless - the 3d ish screen didnt appeal and i missed the 2d of the past - yes its on a ds so it should be better but why change it -
I bought diamond and pearl on release in uk and i only played diamond for 10mins - and tbh its going to be a while for me to get into the new ones
Plus the tv series is rubbish now with these new voices - time for pkmn to die methinks its been a good 11 years
If I wasn't such a sucker for pokémon games I would have waited for platinum to come out, the third game in each series is just brilliant, was really tempted to import it, but decided to wait for the american release (just because I got sick of kanji with my diamond version)
Not suprising that its sold so well, pokémon as a series has just gotten better and better, the only problem is that theres far too many legenday pokémon around these days, and that when it comes to completing the pokédex each generation it just gets a bit long winded.
Urg... Why can't they make a Pokémon game that looks good? Would it be that much trouble to release a 3D version for the DS? I mean, Mario 64 came out over TEN YEARS AGO! The technology is there!
The technology is there also for you to make your character walk diagonally.
Im surprised the series is still going (They'll run out of jewels & scientific elements soon enough). I got Blue close to when it came out at the turn of the millenium & got Gold when it came out. Collected all 151 & 251 & on that day i learned a very valuable lesson... The girls dont find you more sexually attractive & you dont become more popular than you were before you owned them. I mean whats the point? Its for those reasons i hung up my well swollen pokéballs at the age of 16 & didnt get the editions that followed. Who knows i may get the next one. Pokémon African Gold? Pokémon Underground
