No trophies in Mega Man 9 PS3

Epic 360 achievements, but no PS3 trophies
Yes, Mega Man 9 looks f-ing brilliant, but one extra treat that has people talking are the insanely tough Achievements in the Xbox 360 version.

With ridiculous challenges like finishing the game without dying, or multiple times in one day, they look set to become some of the most prestigious Achievements in any game. But sadly, the PS3 won't be getting the same treatment.

Capcom's Jon Diamonon, who recently officially confirmed the game for PSN for $9.99 (£6 here, maybe) has revealed that the PSN version will not have Trophy support. When asked, he simply said: "Sorry, no trophies."

That doesn't mean the challenges won't be in there - we've seen the Wii version which does have the same challenges as 360, but only as a game-specific feature, so we expect the same of the PS3 version. But you won't be getting any trophies to show off to mates, though.

Without trophies, would you bother with the challenges?

I honestly can't see why they just don't copy the achievements from the 360 version for multiformat games.

Oh, and if the game is going to be around the Ł6 mark for PSN, then it should be 800MS points for the 360 - which is what I was hoping and expecting it to be.

Ł6 for that s**te! get real, they could have polished the visuals a bit at least.

That's the whole point, to give the game an 8-bit era feel.

The soundtrack to the game is on YouTube, and it sounds bloody fantastic.

Game should be fun, the lack of trophies in the ps3 version has made my mind up which version to get(as i own both machines).

I've really been enjoying drake's fortune again because of the added trophies, the sooner sony enforce trophy support in all games(like microsoft do with achievements)the better.

Sod the trophies! That looks really cack! What's it running off, a NES emulator? 6 quid as well!

Of course there wont be trophies. Why would there be? Trophies were only announced 6 months ago and introduced 3 months ago... give the poor developers some time. Rolling Eyes

I'm sick of trophies being omitted. It's becoming an absolute joke. Every developer in the world is so bloody lazy. Did Sony add a trophy system as a practical joke? I'm starting to think that.

They aren't the be-all and end-all of a game I know, but they definitely add value. If it's a feature that's easily available to developers, a feature that another console is getting, then there is just no excuse. I hope every game released without trophies from now on suffers hugely in sales, because no matter what excuse developers give, it all translates to "We weren't bothered".

You're probably right, but that doesn't make this game look any better. Trophies or not, this game looks awfully like something I just emitted from my bowels.

The question is...would I do these challenges even if trophies were included?

No.

Looking forward to the game though Very Happy

I think some people are missing the point of this game... totally.

I'll spell it out clearly to you - Capcom have made the game look like it does, to capture the 8-bit era style and charm. It's made for Megaman fans, and the graphical style is what they remember most fondly.

Absolutely right, and the Mega man games were always great fun to play from my vague recollections...I personally couldn't give a rats ar$e whether it has trophies, achievements, merits, demerits or shiny stars, it's all about the gameplay!

Download an emulator and get all the 8 bit titles you want for nothing. Most of the companies have disappeared years ago so your not even breaking the law. This isn't worth Ł6. Capcom could have put a bit of an effort into it.

Wheres all this love for Megaman come from?

I always hated these games and it was universally accepted that they were all pretty average (at best)

Who seriously really likes Megaman? I dont think Ive ever met anyone who does.

Not including trophies is a bit of a mistake by the devs on the Ps3 version though. I think quite a few PS3 owners will be buying games with trophy support first and foremost from now on to be honest.

There'll be a lot of people that want to really get ahead with their trophy stats so I would imagine this will sell next to nothing on PS3. I mean its one of those games that most people wouldnt be all that bothered about, but if it had trophies that may swing your decision to buy it on PS3.

On the other hand, every game on Xbox has achievements already so there really isnt any incentive to buy this unless your a fan.
fanboy on 19 Sep '08
Still cannot wait for this. I'm itching to buy a NES again to play some of the old classics. Playing them on an emulator on me PC just isn't the same.
MPH on 19 Sep '08
I like to think I'm open minded but I really am baffled as to why they've made the game look like a Nes Game.

I applaud the sentiment but it looks ugly as sin to me and it'll look s**t on my 46" bravia.

I was more of a fan of the X series anyway, it was a much more fluid experience.

Let the fanboys have their fun and then give us a Megaman X Rearmed please.
ledickolas on 19 Sep '08
im still getting it for ps3 as i belive you need a good d-pad for a mega man game witch the 360 lacks.

Whats with this hate? just becasue its 8-bit? The classic series is where its at so stop getting all p**sed graphic whores! I think more companies should do this with their older franchises, like sega could bring out a new 16-bit sonic Wink.

This game is hardly worth 6 quid! It looks like it could be played in Flash on one of those "arcade games" websites.

There was an article on here a few days ago that capcom wern't going to make any console exclusives and stuff like that. Is it me, or are they going against that by doing this? I would say that they are making the acheivements an exclusive to the xbox.

Dont bother me tho, mega man is gay.
Haza103 on 20 Sep '08
I think the game looks balls and would have much preferred a nice HD makeover but still in 2D, like how Castle Crashers looks like a cartoon.

Anyway, has anybody else seen this yet? If this isn't a fake, at least we can't accuse them of not going the whole way!

@ledickolas

Maybe you should check Megaman: Maverick Hunter X...Google it.

Personally, I love Megaman. All of 'em (except those weird GBA/DS battlenetwork stuff). Really, I can't wait for it to be released and I sure don't give a crap if it's 800MSP. That's a good deal in my opinion.

Even so, I agree with most of you. Sony should enforce the use of Trophies. You won't get anything for those points. But you 'win' stuff so you'll want to continue playing. That's the human brain for ya.

Statements like this get me, as they are made from kids who were not into games at the time of the originals.
Megaman was late 80s - 90s, and was very popular on the NES in that time. It was famed for its arcade style and massive bosses.
Capcom have releases Megaman 9 in the same style as the older titles, to appeal to the same people who made Megaman so popular back then.

If you're a little bit too young to appreciate this, then I have sympathy for you, because you're missing out of a legend!
