Banjo is making his long-awaited come back in November, not just in a new game but in a revamped version of the N64 original, too. So does Rare have any more retrotastic treats on the way?
No, basically. That's according Rare senior animator, Elissa Miller, who brushed off the hopes that Rare could have more old flames in the pipeline.
When asked about any possible revivals, she said: "At the moment, probably not. We've always got to have a reason to revive a franchise, we don't do games just for the sake of them," she told 360 Gamer magazine.
Considering Rare has had Viva Pińata, Banjo N&B and 360 Avatars on its 2008 work list, as well as teams rumoured to be working on a Perfect Dark sequel and another new IP, we're not surprised it isn't thinking of more revivals right now.
We demand to see an XBLA remake of Banjo-Tooie though.
Perfect Dark sequel is a must, after the disappointing Zero. Rare has been hinting at a Killer Instinct sequel so I wouldn't be surprised if they announced that some time down the line. I would like to see a new Conker game, but anything else, I couldn't care less about.
Killer Instinct was a fantastic arcade, amazing on the SNES and pretty reasonable on the N64. People who were around and played it back then love it and I guarantee most if not all of them would buy any new version that came out.
Screw a Perfect Dark sequel, I want a remake with online play! PD's my most favourite game ever and with online play it'd be just amazing Oh and bring back the face mapping that got 'taken out' of the original too
Hopefully they're working on a PD and Kameo sequel. I think that'd leave them with one development team left so that could be the new IP people seem to expect from them. Still, I'd like to see another Conker game in the future.
That's a shame. I can't think of anyone I know who thought - 'you know Goldeneye? It was s**te.' I remember being blown away the first time I used the sniper scope on the opening level and could snipe the furthest guard on the third tower of the dam from the top of the first tower.
Plus, Blast Corps. What's not to love about clearing buildings out of the way of a giant out-of-control truck carrying a nuclear missile?
Seems to me like they're missing out on a real winner on the XBLA. I think Nintendo might have the licenses still, but surely the clout of Microsoft could buy them back in a flash.
Who cares what they do. Everything they've done since N64 has been very average - Grabbed By The Goolies ok, Kameo ok, Perfect Dark Zero ok, Viva Pinata ok.
You used to be guaranteed something special from a Rare game, now we just get cartoony looking averageness.
If Rare were back with Ninty then things would still be good. Does anyone remember Starfox Adventures on the Gamecube? Incredible graphics, fun gameplay and voice acting! (albeit slightly dodgy) I loved that game, it was like the games to old Rareware used to make on the n64 but updated with better visuals, music and gameplay.
How I wish they were still the best game designers in the world... Every company now seems to be churning out so much rubbish, heck, even Nintendo have shot themselves in the foot software wise.
I'd love a Pdz sequel. Wasn't a big fan of the original, but absolutely loved Pdz. Would also like a proper Goldeneye sequel or even just a revamped version of the original with modern graphics. Finally, I would love another Dkc, but it would have to be 2d only, with the same gameplay as before and with the same ray-traced graphical style that made the original's look and feel so good.
I'll give you a good reason to raid your back catalogue for inspiration. With the exception of Viva Pinata all your games since the good old Ninty days have been as bland and mediocre as scampi.
Pull your fingers out and get to grips or move away from Microsoft, they're obviously making you creatively stagnant.
