F.E.A.R. developer Monolith has boasted that the enemy AI in its upcoming sequel, Project Origin, is "second to none".
Speaking to XBW, associate producer Eric Studer said the AI in the second is going to "keep you on your toes at every turn". After playing against the impressively smart baddies in the first game, we believe him.
"The AI in Project Origin has been significantly expanded upon from the first game, and reacts even more realistically to how you play," claimed Studer.
"As such we didn't want to create an expectation in the players mind for how to progress through a level. If you want to blast your way through an environment, you can do that. If you want to kill every enemy at a slower pace, you're encouraged to do that as well. The AI will respond in kind, but it was key that we let players determine exactly how they progress."
The AI in the first F.E.A.R. was highly praised for reacting to the player's movements, lobbing over tables and generally being a pain in the arse to kill. In Project Origin the jumping-over-tables bit comes to the player, says Studer, thanks to 'interactive cover objects'...
Not sure when it's out. And haven't plyed the first one, but it does sound good. Might have to dig out a copy of FEAR.
Talking of AI, the only game that has ever made an impact on me with its AI is (or was) KKND. Although, perhaps lacking depth as a game, it did provide the best surprises such as attacking you gently from one side whilst amassing a huge army just the other side of your base, which it then promptly used when I decided to venture outwards.... ANd, I think, it definitely provided the best "human" likeness (at the time).

You should pick up a copy of Fear, probably get it really cheap as well, cracking game, not perfect but right good fun. This new one looks and sounds even better.
FEAR was a great immersive early game for the 360 when I got it. I remember downloading the demo an playing it through a home cinema set with the lights off. Was awesome n there was the wee bits that made ye jump. Going back to it now though, everything looks a bit dated but I have to say the enemys worked really well instead of being just cannon fodder. The fact that it'll be available cheap preowned or new makes the first one a decent addition to your game collection. I'm defo interested to see how the second one turns out.
I'll get this, avoided the first one due to the amount of (this is what I heard in reviews anyway) repetition of environments and enemies (heard there were just the creepy girls and anonymous swat guys). I like a good scare though....
i enjoyed playing the first fear, but when i hear boasts about the ai like that i raise an eyebrow and get my inner cynic working overtime. Thus lowering the bar of hype.
Can't friggin wait for this, I thought the first one was incredibly fun and loved all the corridors and shock bits. Plus the free multiplayer was the biggest bonus ever
^^ Hey, it's the ONLY other guy on CVG that likes pikmin, how do mon?
