After just over a year's wait, and plenty of rumours, BioShock will launch for PS3 on October 24. One of the first reviews - from PSM3 magazine - is in and it gives the game the thumbs up.
As expected, the review gives credit to the game's epic story but later on PSM3 says, "Everything and everyone reacts as you'd expect it to, both physics-wise and psychologically so. This means that it's always possible to discover new combinations, making for some beautifully intuitive gameplay."
It adds: "You'll never make such a bad decision that you'll completely scupper yourself - it's effectively impossible to die, since all you do is respawn at the nearest Vita-Chamber.
"It's an un-gentlemanly way to play and the chambers are spaced out just far enough for it to be a bit of a pain in the arse ... Still, there's always the super-hard Survivor mode - available as standard on PS3 - which actually disables the Vita-Chambers completely."
Crucially though, how does it compare to the 360 version? The magazine notes challenge levels that add "an intriguing puzzle element to what's otherwise a straight action game, revealing areas of Rapture the 360 version didn't even hint at.
"You don't have to download the latest plasmids - they're included as standard. Likewise, there's no waiting around for bugs to be fixed. That said, there's very little else that separates the two versions," says the magazine.
However, PSM3 also admits: "If you're a lucky multi-format owner who favours visuals over some extra puzzle levels, you're probably better off with 360's original. Otherwise, you needn't panic: Rapture shines on every format and plays identically."
And the verdict? "Overall As fresh today as it ever was, BioShock's an essential PS3 play," it said, slapping it with a 93 score.
Read the entire ten-page review in issue 106 of PSM3, on shelves tomorrow.

Seems like an unexpected comment. I don't see why the PS3 version should look or run any worse, given that other Unreal 3 Engine titles have ran fine on the big black box? But surely if you're a 'lucky' multi-format owner your best bet would be to go for the PC version, assuming your comp can handle it...
The extra puzzle stuff sounds interesting, though I don't think it'd tempt me into buying the game again to experience them. Maybe a rental, but not a purchase. Bioshock was good the first time through, but it doesn't hold any appeal for me to revisit it.
I suppose it is an improvement on the crappy HalfLife 2 port. I was expecting the worse from this game due to the 'Dark Sector' devs jumping on board to finish the coding. Good news for those looking forward to Bioshock, though visuals not up to par with 360, I imagine will start a festival in the green camp....
Not sure why, but I got bored of the one on 360. Even though the graphics were top notch, I found the colour-scheme to be bland. I know that it was the early 20th Century they were going for, but I just found it too bland for me.

I see no reason why the visuals aren't identical on both systems. Seems quite odd to me.
It's hardly a reason for someone to rejoice though, is it? Or must I remind myself where I am?
If you have a PS3 and havent played Bioshock, buy it.
The new challenge modes sound interesting and even if it has slightly inferior graphics to the 360 and PC game your still going to get a beautiful looking game.

I'm happy to report I played Half Life 2 & Portal on PS3 and it was excellent - not a problem at all.
Team Fortress 2 PS3 multiplayer is supposed to be one of the friendliest online.

Won't be buying it for me PS3 this time.
I struggle to understand why anyone would buy a game for any system they've already played on another system - seems like too much time and money on ones hands to me!

So the 360 looks better? Really? I thought they were supposed to look identical when it comes to ports.
And why is there no other mention of the 360 version looking better?

You should go to the Sonic Megadrive/Genesis compilation thread!
I'm struggling to think of any games that I've ever done that with - I mean, once it's done, it's done....right?
It's interesting that the graphics comment is there...as there have been various comments in the run up to the release on PS3 saying that the PS3 version actually looks better...strange, but then I guess its all just one persons opinion right?

Retro compilations being re-released on current systems is slightly different though. I seem to remember people talking about buying the PC and 360 versions of Bioshock when it first came out too - that just seems pointless to me, and as I said, buying and playing the same game twice at the same time just seems like the person has far too much time and money on their hands!
Strange game in that the opening hour or 2 are by far the best part of the game. Those opening one-two hours are worth the retail price alone though, they really are a massive achievement in atmospheric design.

It is a tad strange - what's even worse are those people who post at certain other sites, that seem to buy games on two or three consoles just to compare things like the framerate!
That's just too dull to comprehend.
I'm not really into playing a game once it's beaten - but, I did think of a game that I have bought for more than one console....Gun (oi!, no laughing at the back - it's a good game, honest).
The only reason was because it was on offer and I genuinely enjoyed it.
I have to say I was tempted to buy Bioshock again on the 360 as my local Game were selling it new for Ł10.
I didn't for the reasons above, but I just was interested to see how it plays (console gaming is a very different eperience in my opionion than PC gaming).

Usually it's for extra content and/or features. For example, I bought the PS2 version of the original Half-life -- even though I already had the PC version -- specifically for the new cooperative maps. That said, I did wait for it to drop to a budget price .

Only if you use a mouse and/or keyboard; with a gamepad, it's not really that different. It's even more similar if you hook the PC up to your TV (very easy to do with hi-def TVs, and still easy with many standard-defs).
Come to think of it, the controllers for all three current consoles can be used on a PC, although the PS3 gamepad and wiimote require a bit of trickery to get them working properly. The 360 gamepad is a lot easier to get working, and the PC version of BioShock even has a menu option specifically for the 360 pad.
You what? You evil, twisted, sick ... oh wait ... thats what I did as well. Pesky kids.
Barstewards!!
Mind you, if they were teenagers I would condone it wholeheatedly. Teens should be put down at birth... ok, there is a severe flaw in my argument there
Think i might be the only one to say this! But bioshock is s**teeeeeee!!! Same thing over and over with them dam flying things beeping away and shoot you, and the odd zombie ppl running at you .oO(zzzz)
If you have a Ps3 and havn't played this game before I would highly recommend it. I really enjoyed Bioshock when it came out first time round and it got my vote for game of the year 2007. As for the graphics, its a mute point to be honest, and I really think it depends on your opinion. From what I've seen it looks pretty much identical to the 360 and P.C version to me.
It is not suprising the PS3 version is better than the 360 version.
That is a new trend with all multi-format titles that started with GTAIV, including Soul Calibur and soon Rage. The technical limitations of the 360 are starting to tell and it will only get worse.
"If you're a lucky multi-format owner who favours visuals over some extra puzzle levels, you're probably better off with 360's original. " Nothing to see here.
And for those thinking the PS3 is getting "teh best versions",you'd do well to read the latest IGN multiplatform reviews...

Ah, p*** off Suiv.
You aren't fooling anyone - go play Lair or Heavenly Sword for the millionth time then. I find it actually hilarious that you'd be so ridiculously anti-360 that you'd deny yourself a brilliant game like BioShock, just because it appeared on 360 first. Pathetic.

It does say in the article that the 360 version has better graphics! Add this to the fact that it has been available for about a year and is much cheaper on 360 and I don't see how it can be said that the ps3 version is hands down better.
I'd be happy with either version but am gonna go 360 as I no longer have the foreman.

That's an interesting way to interpret things
They just said the visuals look better in this.
GTA4 was higher res and smoother frame rate on 360.
Total crap.
Being multi format is nice because it means you don't have to make s**t up to convince yourself you purchased the right system.
