The premise for Home is rather epic, but can it deliver? UK games magazine, Play, says: "prepare to be bored."
The magazine, which has had access to the Home beta since "early in the summer" speaks of its opening experiences with the community tool. "You begin in your empty apartment, with a door leading to the outside world and a seaside view from the windows in your room.
"Upon walking through the door, we were greeted with a sight that is unfortunately indicative of the Home experience: a download screen."
It goes on: "For every new building that we entered, a 30-50mb additional update was needed, which was a little bit frustrating- why not condense everything into one 500mb download, and cut out the middleman?"
It also digs at Home for it's empty servers. "Once we'd overcome this process, we were in Home Square. Eerily, this hub of Home activity was 100% deserted ... In all honesty, it was like walking into some kind of nightmarish, Sony-generated Dystopia. Home seemed a bit...Orwellian. Hardly an image you want to provide, when users are discovering it for the first time."
It all seems a bit better though, when Play talks of an in-game event Sony organised to show off inFamous and Resistance 2. "Now populated with upwards of thirty users, we finally engaged in some relaxed and non-terrifying conversations with other people.
It later says: "Were we hanging around with friends, rather than folk we've never met, the Home experience would surely be richer and more fulfilling," said Play in its write-up.
So once it's out and everyone's on it, it could be good. We hope so...
Hmmmmm, always thought it looked a bit sterile. To be honest, I only just have enough spare time to play videogames, certainly not enough for pis*ing around in some bland looking virtual world with nothing to do. If I wanted to do that, I would have bought Tubula Rasa.
Im still not completely sold on Home, I may end up being wrong and it revolutionises the way we Game, but I cant help thinking of a Gap advert whenever I see any screenshots for it.
I suppose we just have to wait till its been out and operational for about 6 months before we can call it a success or a failure.
What a pointless argument. There is hardly anything open at the moment. I don't like rugby but it is loved by many, it's the same with anything, people will like it and people will not. Remember, even in magazines it is still just one point of view.
Play have no idea what there talking about. Ive been playing home for about 4-5 months now and im lovin every minute. Ive met hundreds of people and go loads of new friends on psn.

I have this mag and the article is about 2 pages long.... so really the worst bits (and some good) were picked out. I would say that it was a fairly positive review, the bad comments were really only at the start of the article (and referring to the start of home (ie when you download it) or when it was "early in the day" which is how they justified home square being empty.
Still interested in home, but im still worried about whether there is anything to do. I usually just go on COD4 private game if I want to hang around with my mates.
it is not there to replace games it is going to be a social feature that lets you met people and organize games i would probaly get tired of it if that was the only thing i used my ps3 for.
Oh now we wouldn't think that not when you use it to get rid of your sexual tension.
"Shortly thereafter, games magazine Play was shut down for undisclosed reasons and casualties were reported in the vicinity of their office. An imposing man with red tatoos was seen leaving the scene"

you go do that while me and Suivaloom take turns to stick our tiny dicks in the slot at the front of a PS3
Now now Tam we all know you and Suivaloom are the two most likely to do that, after all, the way you two ramble on about the PS3 its obvious you both masterbate over it.
wiiboy101 out of touch with gaming. Yea because waving about a stick to make a dog bark the mario theme tune is sooo hardcore gaming.
that and pc install times are as long as a slow poo and downloads are as fast as your internet connection.
also while im on a rant pc games require just as many patches as ps3 and xbox games. go back to waving your nunchuck and looking up porn on your pc. friendless angry gadget junkie....
im quite interested in home, need to see its perks and how its going to make my gaming so much better, not many comments going on here for something thats supposed to be important???? thought it would be 50+ comments like other important things on these forums (AAA games on their own get 50+ posts), come on, theres supposed to be lots of interest in home people.... (only 24 posts on something that will change gaming forever?????)

Out of lucky buddy, just a sort of sexual flame war going on above ^^

bla bla bla bla bla bla
something very intelligent
tam my vag it is really itchy what should i do
don't itch it
I'm well aware that I shouldn't encourage this kind of behaviour, but that is quite funny
Is this the same magazine that gave Sonic the Hedgehog (PS3/360) a 8,5/10 and Lair a 9? Cause if so, I'm starting to think Home was the best thing ever invented seeing how Sonic and Lair ended up.
the uk home server is a bit empty now, everyone is in american or japanese home now, if you don't have people on your friends list who can get you there that's your problem
ps3 is boring full stop i new home would be a load of hype xbox and ps are both out of touch with gaming and clearly care more about meaningless multi function media.....BS
home is a marketed hype usless pile of wasted time and space id prefer a polished lag free online experience and allow the developers of each game to implement the gaming online s**te.....
even the HOME service seems plaged with playstation dreded LONGGGG LOADING TIMES and no doubt will reqiure loads of PATCHING HHHMMMMMM
AND WHO WANTS TO NAVIGATE VIA A DUALSHOCK THATS LAME
ON SCREEN VANIGATION = 3D MOUSE = WIIMOTE
This guy is a character. I haven't seen a wii fanboy around here for ages but he was on the PES09 wii page, going all caps mental and talking about pressing your dpad. He's new (or his profile is) to CVG - he's certainly hit the ground running.
I've always thought that generally the nintendo fans conducted themselves better on here than any others, yet apparently would be the most immature as the wii is aimed at 'kids'??
Home has no interest to me at all; it would be a waste of time for me. However, some people will certainly like it and you surely can't judge a social application when it is in Beta with hardly any people on it! It's hardly social.
The downloading bit reminds me of Guild Wars. It's annoying but has it's good points e.g. What's the point of having to download the whole 500mb if you only end up using about 50mb of that?
