Rockstar's Max Payne 3 emerges again

Third moody shooter under construction internally at Rockstar, says mag report
Another magazine has backed up reports that the inevitable third instalment in constipated shooter series, Max Payne, is in development internally at Rockstar.

The latest Xbox World 360 echoes this US mag report, which claims that the shooter has been moved away from original Finnish developer Remedy (which is currently asleep on the job with Alan Wake) and handed to Rockstar Toronto, the studio responsible for The Warriors.

Some fans will take it as bad news that the original daddy isn't at the helm, but with the current Wake situation we reckon they should be glad it's coming at all.

"While Rockstar aren't patently going to be able to bang the game out in time to coincide with Marky Mark Wahlberg's forthcoming cinematic portrayal of New York's most tragic cop, we're guessing they're at least going to ride in on the back of it," says XBW.

The rumour's looking more and more likely to be true then - and with a film coming out, why wouldn't Rockstar pump out a new one? We would.

Take-Two previously confirmed the third game in a conference call back in 2004, stating that "there will be another Max Payne". Though obviously not much has happened since then...

Truly gutted if Remedy arent at the helm for a new Max Payne game although in R* hands we trust so no disaster, I hope.

On a side note, Markus and a few of the other Devs at Remedy have been posting on the official Alan Wake site more frequently recently, could an announcement be imminement?

Chances? Slim & None. When it's done, it's done.

if alan wake isn't one of the best games ever made then everyone will be considerably annoyed!

I can't understand why they would continue to pour money into it if it wasn't going to be good tho. surely if after 4-5 years in development it was not up to scratch then it would have been ditched by now. it will need to sell millions to make its money back unless its being done by a small team cheeply!

One of the Devs at Remedy was talking on the official site about the game and admitted that he had been playing through the game for a while now, how far into production and what their is left to do, who knows?

One thing you can be assured about though is that Remedy dont put out sh*t, and I have high hopes for Alan Wake, it is my most anticipated title out there, now if they could show us something at TGS, well, I would be one happy bunny.

As long as this is not simply a cash in on the movie like the article implied, i am happy about this.

There is going to be new trailer very soon, running alongside the Max Payne's Finnish premier and will be available online shortly afterwards, according to Remedy. http://kotaku.com/5057267/new-alan-wake-trailer-at-max-payne-finnish-premiere

I agree that it will be disappointing if Remedy are not behind the third instalment of Max Payne. I know nothing about Rockstar Toronto so have no idea whether they can create something to live up to the reputation of the name (the list of games on their website seems a bit short and may only contain ports.) The reason why people aren't just thankful that a new one could see the light of day? Because we would rather play no Max Payne 3 instead of a bad Max Payne 3. Rolling Eyes

I'm worried about Max Payne. The first 2 games are among my favourite games of all time, but I'm not sure this announcement is good news...

I'm looking forward to the film, but I have a nasty feeling that the valkyries (the winged creatures in the trailer) aren't just going to be hallucinations, but will be real creatures, which puts a completely unnecessary supernatural twist on Max Payne's story. If the 3rd game is riding on the film, I'd worry that supernatural creatures may make an appearance there too.
