Speculation around the supposed new Nintendo DS is already ablaze across cyberspace, but now there's another claim on what Nintendo's going to unveil this week; a new game that "everybody is waiting for".
That's according to French site Gamekyo, who says that the platform holder is set to unveil an old franchise reborn.
"We can announce today that Nintendo will reveal a new game for the Wii during this event which is actually an old franchise that everyone is waiting for," the report says.
We contacted Nintendo UK on the report and expectedly, "rumour and speculation" equalled "no comment".
We already know Nintendo is due to properly unveil a third game in Miyamoto's Pikmin game - and Kid Icarus has been heavily rumoured for a comeback - but other than speculation we've no idea what this could be. If it's actually showing anything.
Nintendo's press conference will be held in Japan on October 2. Stay tuned.
I know they are done with Metroid Prime but one can only hope that this will be another Metroid game.. Brand new Zelda would be cool aswell. A sequel to Wind Waker perhaps?
I heard its going to be ..... Cooking Mama 3: The Untold Recipe.
I dont listen much to Nintendo anymore (not that I listen to any of them really but especially Nintendo) after saying that Animal Crossing was the game the hardcore Wii Gamer was waiting for.
If they announce anything I recon it will be kid icurus. It fits in with the whole statment, an old franchise reaborn and the game everyone has been waiting for(the rumors and the like).
don't want to be a party pooper but didnt reggie announce in february that there was going to be a big game at e3, so the mere rumour and speculation that there's a game "everyone wants" at their conference means it'll be even bigger let down than wii music?
With so much speculation since E3 (which was lame on Ninty's part, and i've always bought Nintendo) the smart money would be on Kid Icarus or Pilotwings.
Shigsy did say though that the Zelda & Mario teams were hard at work, so maybe a 'teaser' trailer could be unveiled...
Personally i'd love a 'proper' Wii Zelda, don't get me wrong TLOZ:TTP was great, but it was a GC game with some waggle thrown in at the end of the day... With Wii Motion Plus, finally we might get some of the 1:1 sword fighting we've been waiting for since the Wiimote was revealed to the world.

No, they said it was a core game.
core is NOT an abbreviation of hardcore.
core means bought by those who have traditionally been gamers, which includes everything from animal crossing(originally a 64 title) all the way to zelda and the conduit. it's opposite being expanded market instead of casual.
that said, this probably only popped up because it's more likely due to the summit. I'll wait for nintendo to announce anything before I believe it.
IRT: Stonecold....Harsh matey, but funny as f**k, but let's hope not!
After the s**te E3 showing, I'm sure Nintendo have been pulling out all the stops to get a decent demo together and it HAS to be a new "Zelda" announcement surely!!

if they announce f-zero there better not be weapon integration or any pvssy dance tunes like GX (give or take the unlockable big blue theme),that's wipeout's domain.
i don't want a zelda for another few years, twilight princess was average and the same old template is starting to get a little frayed around the edges. ocarina still does it best anyway.
a merely good zelda just isn't good enough.
pilotwings? oh yes please. i love the snes and n64 versions and it's about time it made a re-appearance.

I stand corrected. Although im sure I saw something on GT (sorry), where Reggie was talking about how Animal Crossing would appease the fans who felt Nintendo were catering too much to the mass market. You have to admit though, they dropped the ball big time with their E3 showing so things can only get better for them from here on in.
i want it to be either a new kid icarus, star fox, zelda, or pilotwings (i never played the original sorry, just looks great). it is WAY too soon to announce a new mario game. galaxy came out just under a year ago, so it'd be way too soon. if its a retro game, might be another kirby (but it has already been announced), and i hope it is not a new ice climbers game. i am also hoping for a new f zero

speaking of swordfighting. anyone who doesn't mind a bit of star wars now and again might like this: http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/09/29/thrustmaster-presents-an-elegant-weapon-for-a-more-civilized-age/
now if only there was a decent 'wars game available.
Any one of the first four (in particular Kid Icarus) would suit me, though I just don't see the appeal in a Ł30 version Punch Out, and I don't want new info on Pikmin since I already know it's coming.
It's probably most likely to be Kirby, what with that recent Kirby event taking place, but what I'm looking forward to more than any of these is some form of storage facility, which Nintendo stated last month was to be "announced soon".
It wont be metroid as the team said after corruption that it was taking a break from metroid.
I hope it will be zelda and i remember from twilight princess's release that they had been working on a new style gameplay for a year so the time is ripe for a reimage announcment. 60 seconds would do!
If this come to be true, I could pee myself to death (if that's even possible at all)
Yeah a "Punch-out" sequel would be fantastic, but there's no way this would be a major announcement for Ninty!!...ahh just brought back joyful memories of the Amstrad rip-off title "Frank Bruno's Boxing"...quality boxing!!!
There are a couple of games in Nintys bottomnal that I would be happy to hear this is but if its something stupid I'm gonna slap someone at Nintendo because as of late I'm seriously doubting they know what there fans are waiting for and they need to be shown we're not all little kids or parents some of us are the people who grew up on there games. All this said I'll just hope for the best but expect the worst
OMFG! After the disaster of E3...although I am quite looking forward to Wiimusic
I really want to see a Fallout style Zelda set in a Warhammer20K setting. Link on a modern day cyberpunk Hyrule with a Bike nicknamed Epona, Chainsaw gun sword and techno Goron's, Hyrulians, etc...

Bring it on...
I think you mean 40k...
While a 're-imagining' of the Zelda franchise would be great (from my perspective), I just don't believe Ninty have the stones to make such a radical change.

Don't count them out they did it before (albeit in the opposite direction) with Wind Waker.
It'll be Pikmin or Starfox for my money.
Just as long as it IS a proper game and not one that you have to buy some sort of add on in order to play it with.
A joint release of Pikmin DS and Pikmin Wii would be incredible....exchanging Pikmin via wi-fi.....bliss.
Well nintendo really needs to step it up, my wii has been collecting dust for more then a year now, i want innovation no game cube ports get it already stupid nintendo.
One re-born franchise would not ignite my interest in the Wii at all.
Another point to be made is that whatever it is, let's face it, will be at least a year away. Nintendo are legendary for taking the "it's done when it's done" approach. Nothing wrong in that but when the system is already starved of quality software they really need to step things up.

I take it that you have not bought the Excellent De Blob then?
Since Pit's return in Super Smash Bros. Brawl there have been numerous calls to revive the Kid Icarus series, particularly by longtime Nintendo fans. There have been rumors that one of Nintendo's previous second-party developers Factor 5, who designed games on the Nintendo GameCube and assisted Nintendo in helping develop the GameCube, are creating a Kid Icarus game for the Wii. On January 14th, 2008, Factor 5 announced they were creating an entirely new game for the Wii, with an entirely new game engine. Gaming site IGN reported that Factor 5's new title is an "altogether different beast" than their previously announced Wii title, Pilotwings.[1] Rumors then spread that Factor 5's new title was actually a new Kid Icarus game for the Wii, after a "credible source" at Factor 5 leaked information about the game.[2][3] Further rumours were ignited in May 2008 after concept art of Pit was leaked.[4][5] Nintendo did not confirm or deny the rumours of a Kid Icarus game developed by Factor 5. In a 2005 interview with IGN, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto hinted that a new Kid Icarus game could be released for the Wii console.[6] At Eł 2006, after introducing Super Smash Bros. Brawl (in which Pit is a playable character), Miyamoto suggested that Kid Icarus could very possibly appear on the Wii at a later date.[7]

No I haven't for the simple reason that my mortgage has just gone up by around Ł230 a month so I'm being very choosy with what I buy.
It does look excellent though but alas it's just one title in a sea of s**t. That's the problem with Wii, there's nowhere near enough "proper" games and the ones that do arrive are lost amongst the mini game avalanche.
I hate to criticise but you get where I'm coming from?!
Pilotwings and a decent StarFox for me please. I do agree that we could do with more than one game that we would all love to see again. Come on Nintendo! Spoil us! You have the friggin money!

I suppose this the kind of point I was hoping to make but failed too phil.
Why should we have to settle for Nintendo saying there will soon be ONE franchise reborn?
They should be doing more.
I guessed I'm just irked with the path they seem to have chosen and as such the Wii is mostly lost on me personally. It's just not to my taste.

The fact is that due to being enourmously successful there is an enourmous volume of rubbish games released. This is not a problem just with the Wii, it is a problem for any successful console. You only have to look at PS1 and PS2 to see the proportion of good to bad! I have around twice as many games for my Wii as I do for my 360.
Nintendo should do a proper on the rails star fox game. A new 2-D metroid should be developed that is near super metroid in quality. Not going to happen though. They should do a new IP for the wii that is for hardcore gamers instead of just re-hashing their franchises
they had better not announce a new kirby game, cos they already have the one on the ds coming out. if that is the old franchise revived, i will seriously go mental. i want kid icarus or starfox dammit!
