Sainsbury's has slashed the price of the Arcade and 60GB Xbox 360s, taking the entry-level console's price south of £100.
We gave Jamie Oliver's favourite supermarket a ring this morning to confirm what the internet was saying and were told that £30 had been knocked off both models as part of a special promotion running from today until October 12.
The Arcade's selling for £99.97 - an absolute bargain if you ask us - while the 60GB version's available for £139.97.
The Elite 360 hasn't received a price cut because Sainsbury's doesn't sell it, according to the nice woman we spoke to.
The company's also slashed the price of the Wii for a short time, again by £30, and it's now on sale for £149.97 until next Sunday.
So if you've been waiting to pick up a console now's probably the time. We'd recommend the 360 at those prices any day due to its great existing catalogue of games.
Man, that is one hell of a deal! I can't wait til the Arcade model drops to £99 everywhere. Then all my chavvy mates will be able to join in on gaming this gen!

Whoa, whoa whoa - I'm not sure you should be listening to that advice. I have a PS3 and a 360. 360 gets loads more play time. better range of game and far supirior online. At under £100, even without the hard drive, that is till an amazing deal!

Ignore K109, it is well worth getting if you already have a PS3, the only thing that it will do is make you realise that you could've had a similar experience for less cash if you had gone with the 360 in the first place.
Don't get me wrong i do enjoy my PS3, Drakes, MGS4 R&C were great, but as an owner of both consoles I always get the multi foprmat games on 360 as they are usually cheaper (& online tends to be more fun, no installs, achievements more integrated than trophies etc)
If your a Gamer and currently dont have a 360 then I would say get one at this price. Of course some people may say that blah blah blah but the fact of the matter is that you would be missing out on some really great games.
the arcade is now cheaper than a ps2 - the 360 needs to sell by the bucket load or MS will be in trouble as sony will have plent more prices cuts to come - MS can't go much lower unless they kill off the arcade
If you already have a ps3 you'd be better off spending the £100 on games - if you shop around you can pick up Little Big Planet, Resistance 2 and Motorstorm 2 up less than £100 in total

Seriously dude - you're a bit of a douche. Just calm down. The PS3 is built better than the 360, but it's still lacking in quality games (I've got nothing left to play since I finished MGS4). The 36o might be a little rough around the edges, but its interface, games libraray and online options are so much better (you may have to pay for the online services, but you know, "I like to pay the extra and get something really good". The PS3 dashboard, although crisp and clean, is still alot less user friendly. And anyway, the new 360 dashboard is coming soon - and oh, before you get ready with your reply - Home looks gash!

i did a good weeks worth of research before i knew what tv i wanted. it had just been reduced from £2750. i got it for the cheapest price available (at the time)

Well, I have an Elite and I must say that 120Gb is almost like a black hole - I've never even deleted a demo and I still have about 80Gb free. When I bought it, the only other option would have been 20Gb, but I wanted the HDMI port (it was the only model to have it then) and, in hindsight; 20Gb would have been restrictive.
60Gb is a decent size - more than enough for most, I'd say. I highly doubt they'd ever reduce that to £30 though.

Yes the XBox is now £100, and i agree it does make you question why do i need to pay £200 more than the Xbox for not much difference?
The answer is you DONT need to! The only thing you do actually gain from having the PS3, it feels more of a quality product, untill you have owned one and looked deep inside it you will realise there is nothing it cant do it! Hell you can even stream your PC games to it! I had Crysis Warhead running on it the other night!
So if you on a budget go for the Xbox360, if you have that little more £££ and want to feel abit more exclusive go for the PS3!

Yes of course. You don't "install" it though. You just plug it in on top of the machine. I can't see why you'd want to though.. The 60GB version is only £40 more. Try & find a 360 HDD on eBay for less than that.

Well, let me start with a couple of low-cost gems - Crackdown and Forza 2....both amazing games that can be picked up for about £10 each (less if you don't mind preowned titles).

The 360 is horrendously loud - up to the point that I very rarely use it at night. Its actually louder than my computer! Its annoying that I have to turn the TV up so loud and wake everyone up in the house - its just built really badly.
The thing is though, you just cant argue with the quality of the games.
I sold mine a while back, but ended up getting a new one when the prices came down (Wish Id waited a bit longer now!) for titles like Braid, GOW2, Fable 2, Banjo, Portal and the GTA downloadable content.
I will always use my PS3 for multiplat games though (aslong as they have trophies mind) as I can play it at night and its free to play online. Plus, as much as people go on about how good the 360 pad is, I actually only find it better for Racing games. For football games and fighting games I much prefer the PS3 pad.
You simply cannot argue with that price though, and I would go as far to say anyone who hasnt got one and doesnt buy it at that price is a complete idiot!

Crackdown is a hoot, jumping from building to building, firing off rocket launchers and watching chaos ensue below. Add online co-op, and it's an often overlooked little gem.

Project Gotham 4 is well worth getting, but there aint too much on 360 that isnt already on PC.
Its well worth it for XBLA though (Only if you get the 60gig) Plus its also worht it for the games that are coming out that were previously mentioned.
To be honest I cant think of much you could get that you couldnt get on your PC (Provided you have a decent one). GTA 4 I think, but not much else.

I guess its really good if you have the freedom to have the TV on dead loud - its just a personal thing I guess. I work strange shifts, so if people are in bed it just sounds like Ive got the TV on dead loud and am hoovering at the same time in the middle of the night!

I didn't actually pick up GoW for the PC. Heard a few horror stories about getting it running properly.
I am not averse to buying pre-owned games either and XBLA seems to have some interesting things on it.
I think that there will probably be occasions where I'll go for a 360 version of a game just for convenience as opposed to PC. I do have a lovely comfy leather chair in my room though

I'd go with the £135 deal from Sainsbury's for a 60GB model & buy Gears Of War 2 when it comes out. Should set you back about £170 in total. Bargain!

If you had a 360 and paid £169 for the 60GB model then you would be massively dissapointed if you bought a PS3 for nearly twice as much, and now you can get the 60GB model for £130 then you would be a complete mug (or a Sony fanboy w****r, like Tam or Suivaloom) to go for a PS3 instead. Its common sense, something Sony fanboys don't have.

i have to say i disagree but if you think the ps3 is worth the extra then that is fine, we are ALL allowed our opinions and should leave it at that.
personally i wont buy a ps3 at its current price point as to me it cant justify the price difference from the 360. also, i have to look at the ps3 exclusives and decide if they are worth it when most games are cross platform, at the moment they arent worth it as I dont want all of them.
I was gonna get the 120gig hd but I might spend the extra 60 quid and get an updated console. WIll be able to use the hdmi ports on my tv then and have a console upstairs.

I would rather pay the extra and get my own place as opposed to having some teenagers dream wank palace (until your mum interupts you when she comes in to clean your crusty, dirty laundry), complete with 50" TV. Seriously dude, how big is your bedroom??? Wouldn't a 32" suffice? It's almost as if someone is buying something bigger to make up for a shortcoming in another area...
And the 360 is too loud, but not so loud I have to crank up my TV to cover the sound. When I play late and my housemates are asleep I have the TV down and it is still louder than the 360!
i have the old one, to be honest for under £100 its almost worth me buying another just for the hdmi connection, my tv does 1080p only on hdmi, i currently use 1080i on component

I'm not quite following your English but I think I get your point?!? I already have a PS3. I don't see the point in shelling out another £130 odd quid when there is nothing else I need. OK, GOW is awesome but that's the only thing I can think of. I'm not paying that much money just to play that!

The 360 may be the louder when first switched on with a disc in the drive, but it doesnt get in the way of your gaming enjoyment, I barely notice it at all nowadays

I'm not a fanboy but I still wouldn't buy a 360... It just does not appeal to me, I do not like any of its exclusives at all the only thing that might be better is live but i'm very happy with the PSN so I'm not going to buy it because of that! lol imo I think that there is better exclusive games (although not that many) on the PS3!

Well I have a Wii and a PC(As well as every other console and computer that I have bought. I can never sell them) I don't own any of the SONY or MS machines. I have never had a desire to considering my tastes/budget/what I have to play now.
If the PS3 was cheaper, I would consider buying it.(As I am on a budget) But still, there is not enough reason for me to purchase one. I would love to get one if the price was lower and it had more games that I was interested in. Who knows, in the future I may pick one up.
The 360 is a great price so I am seriously considering buying one. Of course I will be weighing up the pros and cons of getting one, but as a gamer, if I invest in one, I'll make damn sure I get my full enjoyment out of it. (As in finding out what games appeal to me and ask your good selves advice on what's out there)

I have been gaming longer than most of you kids have been alive. In order of purchase, I own a Wii, then a Ps3, and today I bought a 360 from my local Sainsbury.
Let me tell you lot something. I buy consoles if the price they are asking, is worthy of the games they have available for it. Also, price is a HUUGE factor. I fancied a 360 at launch but price was an issue. not because it wasn't worth it, because i couldn't justify forking out for games that i aint THAT into.
I got a Wii first on launch day, I even queued for 6.5 hours! And that was for Zelda! Then came the ps3, and I forked out 300 just to play GTA 4. All the while gears and halo were always in the back of my mind. esp GOW. but to me, they aint the games that I MUST MUST MUST have. whereas Zelda and GTA, are, (to me)
But one other problem, that aint helped the 360 was the RROD problem. the amount of hours i chuck into gaming, i'd probably fry it in one night. so that kinda put me off. now that under 100, i dont give a monkeys if it dies in one night, as long as i get my fix long enough to make me happy. there is always a point in a game, where i say, ok, this game has justified me spending X amount on it. Zelda was worth the £215 by the time i done the first dungeon. and that was only after 7-8 hours!
GTA aint been worth the 300 i paid for it and never will, i just hoped and took a risk. i could've got it on a 360 but again, the RROD and also my friends and family have ps3s so ideally would have wanted to play it with them. which has been fun. The ps3 has earned its cost now, through other games I enjoy.
So to the point.
I take my Arcade version home, order a 120GB HD from play £80. other accessories etc to beef it up a little bit. and I must admit. I was slightly miffed the the console itself. it was noisy, but not louder than my PC noisy. thats monkey s**te.
also annoyed it DEMANDED to play the bundled arcade games on Pal 60mhz, my tv does full 1080p HD fine but some reason not 60mhz. but anyhoo, not to worry, it will be HD'd up very soon.
But for 100 quid, i still aint grumbling as soon i will be able to play the games i've yearned for, at a much lower cost than i could have wished for, and i'm not the slightest bit worried about the RROD problem as its now real cheap.
I think if you haven't got a 360, get one just for the sake of having one and to play the games you "might" be interested in. i say might as i know for a fact, all you ps3 fanboys would LOVE to have GOW on the ps3. you bitched about Saints Row, now its a haven.
by the way, I am a complete Nintendo buff with loads of rare Nintendo collectables. I have 24 consoles and handhelds. sorry, 25 now i have the 360! And I'd just like to point out, gaming is gaming. whatever its on. just enjoy your games. whatever they are. I like my games, so I will buy whatever they are on. you lot should do the same and leave it be.
