Spore expansion in November

'Cute & Creepy Parts Pack' listed at e-tailers
It seems the first expansion to Will Wright and EA's Spore has been named, and it's coming out in just one month's time.

'Spore Cute & Creepy Parts Pack', surely the first of many expansions for the creationism-em-up, has been listed at US retailers and Amazon for release in the US on November 18.

There aren't any details on the e-tailers but obviously the game title does enough to explain the expansion package; it's a parts pack, and the said pieces are 'cute' and 'creepy'.

Spore's been out for about a month now, landing in shops to more than decent reviews. We were already expecting The Sims-style 'one-expansion-a-month' strategies from EA, and this first pack just strengthens our suspicion.

EA UK wasn't available to comment when we picked up the phone (it probably would've said 'no comment' anyway).

Oh no, it's starting to sound all too familiarly like The Sims already...

That was fast...

Next up!? Spore the private bits expansion pack! Now THAT would sell! Laughing

And so it begins!

I'm sorry but as with The Sims, I found Spore to be a huge disappointment. Technically it's very clever but there's just not enough of a game (or games) behind it.

I'm going back to Flow!

Initially, i was wanting this game to come out on 360. From what i've heard about it from friends though, i couldn't really care less now.

f**king typical. ill get it if its Ł5 or under, but screw it if they start doing this like they did with the sims - cos if so, they can suck on my massive throbbing c**k until it chokes them to death.
Willforbes on 6 Oct '08
Oh god. As if they weren't ripping us off with a mediocre game at 3 installs..

Apparently we dont have the WHOLE game

I hate EA, they ruin everything.

I get the feeling that Spore hasn't quite set the world alight like they hoped.

Aside from the fact that reviews seem to suggest that the game is 'quite good' - it doesn't seem to have the appeal that The Sims did.

Is it just me, or do sales prove otherwise?
The_Johnson on 6 Oct '08
I bet those expansions will have infamous 3 install limit DRM too.

And so it begins.

I knew it...
Spore shipped with not enough features to qualify it as a full game. I mentioned in a post the other week that I bet they deliberately left out features and content so they could milk money with expansion packs.
This just proves it. Not even a month since release and already an expansion pack?
Well it seems as though EA's new strategy is the same as the old one. As mentioned in the Tiberium thread, they expect higher quality in the same timeframe. But hey, if they know people will buy crap regardless of quality, why change?
I love Spore (despite the totally shallow first 4 stages). Unless they release something substantial that adds something significant to the base game, they can kiss my ass.

it was absolutely unnacceptable how ea and maxis f**ked over their dumb customers with the sims. if they plan on doing the same with spore then i call on everyone to pirate the expansions or boycott this altogether. these snooker cues need to learn that they cannot do this to us any more. this pack is going to cost Ł15, for what? eyes with longer eyelashes? this needs to stop.

to be fair, i doubt that they cut half of the features they showed in the original demonstration simply to sell it as an expansion pack. the game that was originally shown had to run on a 6GHz mega computer, and the mainstream dont have that kind of technology. as for the sims expansion packs, they did occasionally throw in a real game-changing pack with cool new features like "Open for Business" and "On-Stage" or whatever it was called. and finally, people will buy these packs. that's just the way it is. it wont be as popular as the sims but it will sell, so if people want to eat turds, let them eat turds. oh and one more thing, the ikea pack didnt do amazingly well in many countries including the US and UK, but in Sweden in went crazy, so one man's turd is another man's IKEA... and to some that's the same thing.
