A 2K community manager has acknowledged the validity of some complaints made by gamers about the PS3 demo of BioShock.
"When we saw a post asking about issues found in the demo, we jumped on it immediately," wrote a 2K community manager on the developer's forums. "And you know what, you're right. The texture in the PS3 demo of the downed Big Daddy does not match our level of quality either. This slipped by. We admit it.
"However, I want to assure you that this is an exception, and not a rule, and while I regret this oversight, we put a lot of love into making this game look amazing for the PS3 and I'm sure that when you play the rest of the demo you will agree that the textures are not all like this one instance."
Some users also complained about the demo's jittery frame rate and awkward display setting options - apparently BioShock runs at sub-720p, but the demo forces itself to display at 1080p instead of defaulting to the game's optimal resolution.
The 2K rep didn't specifically refer to any other concerns raised by forum users, but did say that the company was looking into the issues raised about the demo.
"As for the other issues and concerns, we are currently diligently working to replicate any bugs, and will report back to you with what we find. Thank you for your vigilance here and moving forward," the post concluded.
Here's hoping the final product matches up to the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
the framerate dropped when I got out of 2nd vita chamber. dropped horribly..lasted about 5-6 seconds. hopefully it doesn't happen in final game too often
I finally picked up a copy of the 360 version - £15 for the limited edition tin - and am currently playing through it.
Absolutely love the game - I think the wider the audience this game attracts the better, because it really is sublime - the amount of effort that went into creating the atmosphere is unbelievable.
Also, one of the few games where a 'prequel' would be an incredibly good idea - imagine a populated Rapture, when things started going wrong.

Same here, I enjoyed it and I'm definately getting it in 10 days time.
Well said those men! The atmosphere of the game was spot on. Those looking for faults were clearly not playing the game as meant to be played. I've gone through the demo twice and not noticed anything untoward at all. Excited for the full game now though, big time!
sounds like we have a load of hi fi boffins looking at this game. i downloaded the demo after playing through the 360 version and couldn't spot a single difference. i don't like the game personally but am always interested in how version differ so I am totally unbiased here.

Bad idea, games can't do populated levels with any real conviction. Also you would lose the dark and sombre atmosphere that makes the current game so fantastic.
In reply to the first poster, the 360 version actually has a very similar glitch. I've only just started playing the game on xbox but one of the reviews I read said that the 360 version suffers from an occasional "freeze" where the screen will lock up for several seconds.
Regardless of what anybody else says, I thought the PS3 demo looked horrible. I would hope it is more than the big daddy that is worked on before release.

Maybe you're right - not necessarily about the populated levels as i think that could be acheived well - even if spbottomly populated - but i know what you mean about the atmosphere - it would be a completely different game altogether - more crisis-simulator than atmospheric horror fps
I thought overall it was an excellent conversion - you have to look very hard to spot any differences at all.
Anyway, imo the 360 version is better - textures look sharper up close and the water is just a bit more 'real'. The one thing I didn't like on the PS3 was the occasional horizontal 'judder' when using the right stick (look). I found it very noticeable near the start of the demo. I don't think for one minute this is running at native 1080P on PS3 (it looks slightly poorer on my PS3 even though that is through HDMI & my 360 is via component).
Anyway, a top conversion of a great game. If I had PS3 only I'd be happy to buy this, but for anyone who has the choice go for the 360 version (slightly better and very cheap nowadays).
Then again I didn't notice any problems with Orange Box either.
Bar a bit of lag when fighting the helicopter whilst in the buggy, me neither.
I couldn't understand all the people who said the game was broken. On investigation it usually turned out that they hadn't actually played the game and were basing their conclusion on that most reliable and reasonaed of things: what other people had posted on t'internet.

What, not even the extremely long reloading times when you die? 30 seconds to reload a checkpoint is ludicrous (and you can add at least another 20 if you manual select a save point to load). If you're a really good player then you may not have noticed, but if you're average at best (like me!) it was a real pain at points where it was really easy to die. There were times when I spend longer reloading than playing!

yes, it froze. I forgot to mention that it happened when I played the demo second time. I thought it's so good that I needed to play again. I preordered the game. Just thought that these kind of freezes will not happen often in full version. Gameplay, sound are mindblowing anyway..
For the record, I haven't experienced any of these rumoured problems on my version. However, they supposedly only happen further in once the game has been saved many a time.
Personally, I can't see it being much worse than the momentary loading pauses on the Halo games.
