Sony believes that "the best [software] line-up of any PlayStation generation" will help the PS3 remain competitive this Christmas, despite the console carrying what's increasingly looking like a heavy price tag around its neck.
"As previously discussed we aren't making any price moves this holiday season," Patrick Seybold, director of corporate communications at Sony Computer Entertainment America told Edge.
"In my opinion," he added, "we have the best line up of any PlayStation generation going into this holiday and consumers will be very receptive to it."
Sony's managed to cut the sales gap between PS3 and Xbox 360 during 2008, saying last week that PlayStation sales for the year are 30 percent ahead of target, but Microsoft recently responded by cutting the price of its console for the second time this year, leading to a surge in 360 sales.
Nevertheless, Sony says it's confident that PS3's software line-up, along with upcoming virtual space Home and the console's multimedia features, will see the system prosper over the coming months.
"With PS3 titles for this including Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift to name but a few of our multiple exclusives, combined with PlayStation Home and increasing multimedia features for the hardware, we expect to have continued momentum going into and beyond this holiday season," Seybold said.
Its a quality piece of hardware, even though a price cut at TGS or before Xmas would have been nice. I'm just waiting to see what they announce at TGS aswell.
360 sales can't be eating away at it that much if they don't drop the price..
To not drop the price on the run upto the most important sales period of the year in the current financial climate, has to be down to one of two things...either they have lost all touch with reality or they can't justify it... probably the latter to be fair despite the nonsense spouted in the article.
They seriously dont realiase the price is too high to sell loads?
Yes LBP looks awesome but the game isn't going to shift a load of consoles. Parents cant afford to fork out that much for a console this xmas.
MS have it on the head. Theyv'e sold to the hardcore now they need the casual. The one's who have wii's and want something more. With a decent price point and versitile line up the 360 is gonna be huge this xmas.
I think its the right decision, let the great line-up of games sell the console through to new year and it is a fantastic line-up, something for everyone, then announce a price cut to continue that momentum...my guess is a price cut around killzone 2. I personally still feel it very good value for a quality product which you know will still be pumping out great (and better) games in years to come
i actually do believe that the overall line up for the ps3is better than the 360s. BUT sony should really consider dropping otherwise they could really loose out on a great oportunity this xmas. They should take a risk and drop the 80gb to 199.99 because it could may well pay off especialy with all this good looking titles coming out this year and next and imo make the ps3 a must own.
the price is a tiny bit to high, you can get a decent blu ray player for Ł150 now (not as good as a ps3 mind) but the console still sells well enough at Ł300.
to entice people more maybe just package it with 2 dual shocks. and wipeout hd and GT5p pre installed in the HD and watch those suckers fly off the shelves
"the best line-up of any PlayStation generation" Problem is, they aren't competing with previous generations of Playstation, they are competing with a significantly cheaper platform.
Not dropping the price is either down to arrogance, or the fact that they can't afford to soak up the loss that a price drop would cause. That's my opinion, anyway.
I put your post through my anti-crap filter and this is what I got.
yes philip, whatever you say.
people who support the 360 are getting increasingly desperate. they cant argue that the 360 ISNT cheap. in both senses of the word.
You seem to be coming across as one of those 'spoiled brats' you know.
Can i argue that the 360 isnt cheap in every sense of the word...lets see.
I have played my 360 pretty much every day since i got it. I have over a grands worth of games and the electric that ive used on it is probably huge. SO actually its pretty damn expensive in that respect.
Also...the variety of games at the moment is vastly superior to its competitors with the PS3 seemingly turning into the FPS console with more exclusive FPS's than the 360. At this current time im playing 10 v 10 on FIFA 09, better on the 360 IMO due to the 360's extremely well intergarted Live system. Im currently in the dilemma of which games i can afford to buy before xmas with Fable 2, Fallout 3, GOW2 and Banjo Kazooie all must haves...but at least two have to be cant haves.
if you dont think Ł300 pounds is a lot to spend you must be too busy snorting something through your rolled up fiftys. The biggest selling console of this gen at the moment is the Wii. The console that was much chaeper than the 360 and PS3. By your reckoning this shouldnt be the case.
I cannot believe as a consumer and as a Gamer there are so many people on this board who are somehow trying to justify the price paid for a PS3 when compared to the 360.
'Yeah I know I paid Ł200 pounds more for it, but its worth it.'
Keep telling yourself that, one day you might truly believe it.

Why is 'cheap' a sign of inferior quality? Do you buy the most expensive petrol because it's clearly 'better'?
because litteraly millions of them have broken down. is it a coincidence that they sell at that price?
i buy the expensive petrol because my engine is mapped for 99ron. using the 95ron, i.e. the cheap stuff would cause engine 'knock' and ultimately destroy the engine. idiot. super unleaded isnt a gimmick. most performance car NEED super unleaded, theres a warning in the manual...
theres a reason it costs more. its better, like the playstation, its of higher quality.
I hope you dont end up in too much debt this winter as you try and warm your castle up sire.
Are Sony mad? Are Sony living in a cave? Don't Sony watch the news?
We are in the middle of global financial meltdown and they have the arrogance to dismiss discounting! Pretty much every manufacturer/retailer on the planet will be looking to cut prices to boost demand...but apparently not Sony.
Yes, PS3 is a great machine - but it isn't much different to an XBOX 360. I own both machines and while PS3 is a slightly better media hub, if anything the 360 has the edge for games. I don't see the RRoD being an issue now that M$ give a 3 year warranty - plus the redesigned/cooler running 'Jasper' 360s are here. XBOX 360 is currently outselling PS3 weekly worldwide - the gap will widen with the financial meltdown... people will vote with their wallets and buy the better value 360.

It doesnt really matter about the machine as I play games. The PS3 is quieter but its my 360 that has most of the games. Arguing that a more expensive machine is better than a cheaper one is pointless. It all comes down to the software at the end of the day.
If I didnt have either machine and my kids wanted one I'd get them the 360. Cheaper & more varied games. Simple.

And also 360's have been beating PS3 in Japan for three weeks running now. And im sure after MS's special announcements at TGS this week we will see even more 360 sales in Japan.(KH3 SURELY to be 360 bound?)

If you recall, I have a performance car too, and put in higher RON fuel myself - Shells V Power in fact. However, that doesn't mean I look for the most expensive variety of super unleaded I can find.
95 RON fuel and 99 RON fuel are two different products anyway. Compare like for like - ie Unleaded with Unleaded. There can be a disparity in prices of these up to, and probably more than, 10p a litre. Does the more expensive type mean it's higher quality? Which was my point.

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php
If you look at the link above you will see that the rate of PS3 sales is currently ahead of where the 360 was after the same period of sales, so why should they panic? I know that the different charts websites are not 100% accurate but they are not that far out.
Sony have always said they are in it for the long term, they are running a marathon not a 100 metre sprint.

You do know you're sounding more like an obnoxious rich kid as you carry on dont you? Im sure you have also saved plenty of money on having to buy games for your PS3 with there only being about 5 worth owning. I was thinking that consoles were about playing games and lets face it...this is where the 360 currently excells compared to the ps3

The 360s economy price has made it look like a kids machine and brings it into direct competition with the casual Wii. There is only 1 winner there. I think Sony is right not to react to Microsoft's desperate 'fire-sale' mentality, which shows when you look at the effects of the 360 price-cut having virtually no effect on their sales figures apart from the first week.

Yup, cos tramps often have a place to put their console and tv in their cardboard box/shop entrance home... Also, where are you looking at for your Live costs? You can get a years sub for 35 quid easily, and cheaper if you go to ebay.

Of course it looks like a kids machine. Thats their target audiance now. They have 22million + Hardcore gamers and now they are going for the Wii generation. They have changed their marketing strategy and the price is part of that. To sell more consoles they need to appeal to the biggest market which is now Kids and casual gamers.
Christmas will be the clincher. I honestly feel that the 360 will have massive sales this xmas as people look for an affordable present. The wii owners will ant to upgarde to something else and a 360 is the next logical step.
Also people looking to buy into the new-gen of console gaming now has lower risks. When both consoles were at a high price point then buying into it was a risk. Now you can pick up a 360 for Ł120 that risk is greatly reduced. You buy one and decide it isnt for you then you havent invested a vast ammount of cash into it. Not the same with PS3.
You know what, i'm actually going to be glad when Christmas is over, i'm sick to death of hearing Resistance 2, Home and LBP in every Sony press release.
if you went out of your way to look for the cheapest unleaded, your just gonna use more than you save. petrol is petrol. you use the nearest garage, and you use whatever kind your car takes.
Doesn't work like that though unless you're half mental.
I pass half a dozen or so garages on the way to work, if I need to fill up I just remember to check the prices on the way so I can fill up at the cheapest on the way home.... its not rocket science.
3 of my friends have all upgraded from a ps2 to a 360 recently....all because, in their words "the ps3 is abit too expensive at the minute"....wether the ps3 is better or not, people are buying the cheaper 360.
this isnt a 3rd world country. where there will be people looking for a cheap present, there will be an equal or greater amount of people who actually have cash. the xbox has a lot of hidden costs. your kidding yourself if you think its cheaper.
wifi Ł50
charge kit Ł15-20
live Ł200+ over the years.
Okay...im going to ignore you now because its clear that you are flamebaiting. If you think come christmas loads of people are going to have cash to spend on expensive pressies for their kids whilst all the banks are going under and food prices are rising your in lala land.
Now ii think you need to go and get Jeeves to check your temperature.
HELLO!!!!!! well thats the reason why the PS3 is stuck in 3rd place!!!!!! and has been since day one. low software to hardware attachment rates and high prices have been killing the success of the PS3 since day one. and it won't get any better. we've seen Xbox 360 Core's below Ł99 in London. and Nintendo Wii have dropped to Ł149 at Woolworths. its the credit crunch, how are you going to convince gamers that the PS3 is a bargain? the Xbox 360 has like 85% of the same games on it so why pay nearly 3 times more for a PS3?. Sony have no idea!
Hardly. Heard of a warrantee? Besides, surely that's a risk with anything you buy - from a car, console, washing machine, whatever. As a consumer, you take a calculated risk - is the 100 quid I'm gonna spend on a 360 worth the potential hassle I *might* (remember, RRoD or other issues are not guaranteed) get, or should I shell out 300 for a PS3 and 'hassle free gaming'...
You'll find a great many people opt for the former.

Whilst I don't agree with all this back and forth arguing/discussing, I have to agree with k109 on the fact that despite all of the constant ps3 bashing, by the press and the fanboys alike, the so called high price point, the so called lack of games, and the so called poor start, the sales trend does show that the PS3 has sold better than the 360 in comparison in the same time scale, and that is also WITH competition...so it can't be all that bad now can it.
I cannot believe as a consumer and as a Gamer there are so many people on this board who are somehow trying to justify the price paid for a PS3 when compared to the 360.

I paid Ł299 for my 360 and Ł279 for my PS3. I don't really care if Sony reduce the price of the PS3 or not just as long as they keep releasing games for it. Similarly I don't really care what price Microsoft sell the 360 at. I get the feeling a lot of 360 owners try to justify the 360's selling price. As if they feel Microsoft were forced to lower the price due to pressure from the PS3. Again I don't know and I don't really care but I'm 100% certain Microsoft didn't do it to help the poor consumer over the credit crunch.
I share the same opinion that the PS3 has better games being released for it over the Christmas period that the 360. Fable 2 is the only must buy for me on the 360. I may pick up Gears of War 2 in the new year when I've finished with everything else.
I also agree with the earlier post that if Sony reduced the PS3 to Ł199 (which I believe they can do now if they wanted) they will wipe the floor with the 360. Obviously they feel they don't have to do it and I don't care. The PS3 already has a big enough market share to ensure it gets all multi format releases.
All I want of both formats if good games, price is now irrelevant to me. I'll leave it up to fanboys.
Hardly. Heard of a warrantee? Besides, surely that's a risk with anything you buy - from a car, console, washing machine, whatever. people who support the 360 are getting increasingly desperate. they cant argue that the 360 ISNT cheap. in both senses of the word.
Why is 'cheap' a sign of inferior quality? Do you buy the most expensive petrol because it's clearly 'better'?
because litteraly millions of them have broken down. is it a coincidence that they sell at that price?
i buy the expensive petrol because my engine is mapped for 99ron.
I just can't escape the picture in my head of you in your motor, doubtless the windows will be rolled down to enable everyone in the street to hear the thumping bass of whatever techno garbage is playing on the stereo, the back seats removed to make room for more speakers, the front seats replaced with "sports" seat to allow for a couple more speakers, the boot replaced with yet more speakers, a big logo splashed across the back window, go faster stripes down the side, huge great big spoilers on every possible surface of the car all trying, and failing, to hide the fact that you're actually driving a Nissan Micra.

I reckon he looks a bit like the fella in the 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy" video
So in my world that means go buy an 360Elite. More expensive than the Arcade but still cheaper that the PS3. Better all round, don't you think?
Ł230 for an Elite or Ł300 for a PS3!!!
What is in there (really... not "potential" to warrant spending that extra Ł70... a Blu-ray drive... fat lot of good that is if you don't have a HDtv.
And before you start with all the "oh your an XBOT" bulls**t. I do own both consoles and my PS3 has replace the space where my DVD player was... best Ł300 i've ever spent...

stuff breaks down. but when its the same fault, repeated millions of times over, then its an inherent fault. not a random one. they are f**ked from birth. a waranty doesnt make it alright.
No, but it does allow you to get it fixed or replaced for free.
Again I don't know and I don't really care but I'm 100% certain Microsoft didn't do it to help the poor consumer over the credit crunch.
This I do agree with. It's my opinion they did it to maintain (or build flagging) momentum in their hardware sales, nothing more.
However, as has been pointed out time and again, the longer a console is on the shelves, the more the price drops. Lets look at the PS2 today shall we - a quick scan of Play.com shows me I can get a silver one for less than 40 quid. Now, we all know how expensive PS2s were when they initially came out - does this infer that the PS2s build quality has dropped significantly since it's intial release? Of course it doesn't.
Just a note on the 'reliability' of PS3 - I've had HDD problems and 2 mates have had to get replacement PS3s because of hardware failure...at least I get a free 3 year warranty with my 360.
Games make or break a console, you could have a console with enough machinery to pilot a space shuttle but if you don't have top quality games your in the s**t. That is all.
I think the PS3 is too much money, and for Ł130 the 360 seems very cheap. Maybe Ł250/Ł200 for PS3/360 might be more accurate but I'm not going to complain if MS sell it cheaper!
I really don't care what Sony do. I have no burning desire/spare cash to buy a PS3 at the moment regardless of price. But what I can't stand is the arrogant Sony owners who feel they have to justify that they paid twice as much for a console that probably isn't even as good as the 360 at PLAYING GAMES!! Yes it might break (I don't know a single persons who has had a RRoD, I think that is probably lucky though), but you can't argue with the games.
Regarding the games, LBP might be great. But the fact Sony are putting alot of their hope in sequels to two so-so launch games seems crazy. I mean motorstorm and RFOM2 are hardly MGS, GoW, Gran Turismo, Killzone are they?? Perhaps they will be awesome? Who knows?
There is very little between them anyway, apart from Ł150. I can't see many parents in this economic climate spending Ł300 on a christmas present. But some people are perfectly happy to save their rent money by living with their parents so they can spend all their money on their toys (lame).
It really amuses me how people (especially the PS3 fanboys) label the 360 recent price tag as desperate. Compare live costs, wifi to the PS3. Especially k109. Is that how you defend your beloved machine?
I'm sure most 360 owners like myself simply pop along to Jasper1675 and get 13 months for 25 quid, and also use ethernet over wifi. So money saved right there. If you don't pick up a 360 for that price now, you clearly are a fanboy. Either that or extremely stupid to miss out on what the 360 has to offer. Fan noise? What, do you play your 360 on a spanking HDTV with the volume close to mute? Failure rate? I have 3 360's in my house now, not one has bricked. I have two PS3's one which overheated like a mofo on the day of purchase, swiftly replaced and never had a problem since.
I'm surprised that the PS3 has not dropped for xmas. A price cut would help no end, this credit crunching xmas won't be pretty on little jimmy. It'll be interesting so see how this one pans out. The Wii will no doubt spank both consoles this xmas though, again.
sony are making a loss on each ps3 made. which shows the technology inside it IS worth Ł300.
Rubbish - it shows nothing of the sort. If anything, it shows that they had to drop the price to continue competing in the current market, despite the fact they'd be making a loss. How many PS3s would be sold if the price was still 425 quid, especially when you compare it to the new prices of the Wii (140 in Woolworths), or the 360 (100 or 140 for 60gig HDD in Sainsburys)? Not bloody many I bet!
The lower price point of the 360 is all down to marketing and who ms are targeting. They can hardly target kids and casual gamers with a 300pound price tag can they?
Im under no illusion that the 360 has been flagging in sales recently. But a large ammount of this is becasue its been targeting a market they have already penetrated quite deeply. Now. WIth a renewed strategy incorporating the new dash experience, more kid and casul friendly gaming as well as plenty to keep the existing owners happy the 360 will begin to stretch ahed of the PS3 in sales again.
And then in a year, maybe 2, the PS3 will use the same strategy. Its basic marketing.
Wow, I honestly thought that Sony would reduce the price of the PS3 in the run up to Xmas, the 360 will wipe the floor with it with the price point that it has!
Someone above who posted though is correct; the PS3 is actually ahead of where the 360's sales were at the same point in its life cycle. The only difference though as far as I can tell, was that the 360 RROD was being highly publicized, which probably led to lots of people not buying.
At the end of day, nobody here knows what will happen at Xmas time, the 360 could destroy the PS3 in sales, Sony could crumble, or it could be the other way around, or Nintendo could buy up both the companies as a little Xmas pressie to itself.
I personally can’t see past the 360 having a happier holiday that the PS3, but then I own a 360 and not a PS3 so I have a biased opinion.
On another note, is anyone else having real difficulty picking what games NOT to buy in the run up Xmas? I'm sitting at Ł600 needed so far

Im struggling. I have GOW2 Fable2 and Fallout3 on pre-order as well as Banjo-Kazooie and Cod5(But theyll be cancelled as soon as ive got my beta code and XBLA code). GOW2 is a must have from day one so thats a definate. But i just dont have the cash to pay for the others . It wasnt like this 6months ago. I could buy all the above and still feed and clothe the wife and two kids but now shes on maternity leave and the economy has gone t**s up its a struggle.
i genuinely feel like the Ł150 i spent on a 360 has a f**king waste.
i genuinely feel the Ł425 i spent on the ps3 was worth it.
why people squabble over Ł300 is beyond me. its a great peice of kit for the cash. it feels like a quailty product.
the price difference is about Ł100. 360 youll need to buy a charger and probably will want the HDD version.
whats Ł100 in the scheme of things, for a console that (should) last you 4-5 years?? nothing in my opinion... especially since the same people arguing about the Ł100 price difference have probably already spent it on connecting to live for online gaming.
I bought a 360 to play games on. I play on it all the time. It has been the best 300quid i ever spent! And it will be the best 120 quid anyone else ever spends. Especiallly a sthey can pick up a VAST ammount of titles pre-owned now as well.

Damn right.... Guitar Hero World Tour... Ł150 straight off the bat!!! let alone any other games I'm needing between now and Xmas.

3 games for a start. You either have next to no outgoings, or earn way too much money. You can argue all day that a hundred quid isn't that much, but I know a LOT of people that have a lot less than that in disposal income per month. Not everyone is wealthy you know.
Um, what? Tell me more... What is this Jasper1675 you speak of?
This gentle sir gives you 13 months for 25 quid. You do need a paypal account, or google checkout works. The code is e-mailed to you within hours. With checking the site, I've lied. He's bashed up prices to 25.99.

Anyhow, don't get me wrong. The PS3 is a fantastic piece of kit. Mine's more a handy dandy BR player, and for media streaming stuffs. It's fantastic. Just on the gaming side for me, since metal gear and uncharted, I've not played much else. Waiting for LBP. Then GTI Club on the PSN. Oh, yes. Most of my multi-format releases will be purchased on the 360 generally.
...no win situation....we all moan that consoles are too expensive , so microsoft drop the price and then get criticised for being desperate....sony don't bother dropping too much and we moan the ps3 should be cheaper.....
how the hell is the ps3 "better" than the 360????? Looking at it from a PURELY GAMING point of view (dont give me all this multimedia crap) the 360 is on par with if not ahead of the ps3 when it comes to quality games. AND YOU SIMPLY CANNOT IGNORE THE FACT IT'S THREE TIMES CHEAPER. For the price of a ps3 you could get a 360 with 16 games if you shop around. Imagine at xmas opening a ps3 and maybe having 1 game to play on. Now imagine opening a 360 and having - gears of war (Ł10 on ebay) graw 2 (got this for Ł9 on ebay) pgr 4 ( got this for Ł7.50 on ebay) forza 2 (got this for Ł4 on ebay) fifa 09 (Ł30 in tesco) assassins creed (got this for Ł7 on ebay) bioshock ( got this for Ł9 on ebay) rainbow six 2 (Ł15 on ebay) tiger woods 08 (i got this for Ł7 on ebay) virtua tennis 3 (Ł8 on ebay) soul caliber 4 (Ł20 on ebay) lost oddysey (Ł8 on ebay) blue dragon (Ł5 on ebay) battlefield bad company (Ł23 on ebay) tomb raider anniversary (Ł9 on ebay) COD 4 (Ł25 on ebay)
And yes you can get all that for Ł300 if you shop around. You could even add GTA 4 for an extra Ł20. Only the insane would think the ps3 is a better deal when looking at it on paper. And balls to your breaking down comments as I've had a 360 since launch and not one problem neither have any of ther 37 people on my friends list.
wando77
P.S. I will give any of you links to some of those games I've won on ebay so you can see.

Come to think of it ive been using the 360's media streaming LOADS at the moment and its great. Not sure how it works on PS3 but on 360 its quality. Ive been watching House, New Heroes and new prison break these past few weeks through it.
This is pathetic! You shouldn't have to justify yourself to others! I bought a PS3 for Ł425. It was the best Ł425 I have ever spent on a console. There. Like it or lump it, you sad tossers!

Who wants you to justify anything? Just be happy and chill seeing as you have both consoles you should be very happy, I know I am.
I will say this is a bold move by Sony as the 360 is now flying off the shelves thanks to the cut. I hope Sony are right by saying LBP and R2 will carry them through the holiday period.
I doubt many people will buy a $400 console in order to play a $60 game like LBP. They should drop the price. I bet they get slammed this holiday.
It's a much nicer price point in the US (shame the Blu Ray would be region locked if you picked one up over there!).
I'm surprised they won't be dropping the price - I can already see a lot of interest in the 360 since their price-drop and the recent Sainsburys promotion. There seems to be the odd situation where people are picking up a 360 as their second console to their Wii (who'd have thought it?).
Sony will need to drop the price - it's only normal at a certain point in the systems life cycle - but, I think that they'll certainly be missing this Christmas period. I can't think of too many people that will be paying for a Ł300 console as a Christmas present....and very few people will be spending that kind of money on themselves at this time of year.
PS - I'm at home sick at the moment, but I figured I'd better post a comment seeing as my lack of activity seems to coincide with some kind of 'Suivtam109' type thing....It's not me folks!

I think LBP will certainly do well. I'm 100% certain that it'll sell to PS3 owners, but - are there any people considering buying the console to play that game specifically?....I'm not sure...
.....no - that's a genuine question; any of you guys thinking of buying a PS3 for LBP?

I feel ya, just had a new kitchen put in and well, they are not cheap (Although I did get a cracking deal) So far, trying to pick between:
Saints Row 2 Dead Space (Definite Purchase) Fable 2 (Definite Purchase) Far Cry 2 Fallout 3 (Definite Purchase) You're in the Movies Gears of War 2 (Definite Purchase) GH - World Tour (Definite Purchase) Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts COD5 Mirrors Edge Left4Dead (Definite Purchase) MK vs DC Universe NFS Undercover
Its a horrible choice to make, but at the same time it's good that I have so much choice. My only question is, why release so many good games so close together???
i genuinely feel like the Ł150 i spent on a 360 was a f**king waste
You ever bought a brand new bleeding edge GFX card for Ł400 odd, now thats a waste.
Damn right.... Guitar Hero World Tour... Ł150 straight off the bat!!! let alone any other games I'm needing between now and Xmas.
You just know that it's going to awesome tho!! Ever since I got everyone into GH at house parties, the poor Wii has been left alone!

You sir, win an award for link of the year!!!!!!!!!
Just out of interest Bibbo, what sort of video you streaming through the 360? I'm in the process of converting all my DVD's to Xvid and lately, I've been getting my hands on a lot of WMVHD's, although the filea are a bit big for my liking, Star Wars Episode 3, opening sequence looks f*cking magic!

'Bad to the Bone' by George Thorogood and the Destroyers? - great track, might have to try that one out! (his version of Bo Diddleys' 'Who Do You Love?' is brilliant). That was also in a great SNES game called Rock 'N Roll Racing.

I don't think people will buy a PS3 for LBP, but I do believe it to be a big slice of the overall pie. I will stick my neck out and say that the PS3 will not sell in impressive numbers until this time next year. By then Sony will be offering a tasty pie at a more affordable price for Oliver and family.

Yeah i have to agree with you, i bought my ps3 a few months after launch in the U.K last year an it was Ł520 pound well spent IMO, the ps3 puts the x360 to shame quality wise, makes it look like a cheap DVD player that also plays games, oh i must be pointing to some people who used to say the ps3 was just used for playing blu-ray discs.

Totally agree.
I think that Ł200-Ł250 would be a nice price-point (Ł250 RRP = Ł220 on many sites and retailers) - let's not forget, the PS3 is not in direct competition with the 360 Arcade...more like the Pro or Elite models.

I totally had that game too It was wicked. It was also my first exposure to Paranoid by Black Sabbath (back when I was a youth and not tainted with the black cloud of ROCK ) And yes, by George Thorogood. Bass is dull on it though - red/blue/orange practically all the way.
What people fail to realise is that it doesn't matter to Sony if they are winning or losing at this point in the cycle. People will buy the PS3 in their droves when the price does come down, sometime in the future, as proven with the PS2. Does it make a difference if you sell millions more now or later? It doesn't, does it?
Here's a little thought for you 360 fanboys that are currently trolling here. Lets say MS won this console battle? What if Sony says, screw this, lets go back to making tv's. How do you thing that would affect the console industry? I'll tell you what happens. MS will close ALL their first-party studio's and we'd all be stuck with 3rd party crap. MS has already a lot of problem sustaining their internal studio's. The signs are already there. Just look on the horizon. MS is currently trying to buy the console industry and i hope to god they don't succeed. They are also losing money on their 360, trust me. Together with their Games for Windows brand that sticks every pc game to the Live network..... you don't want MS to have THAT much control. MS charges for everything! You know it and i know it. Once they have a strong hold on PC gaming they'll charge again for that service too. MS being the winner here is NOT a good thing. MS has a FAR worse track record than Sony. Think about that. Sony was last gen's winner and the industry was none the worse. Don't be so sure with MS. You need healthy competition. It brings out the best in both of them. It pushes both to greater things. Prey that Sony gives MS a fight....

Is there really any need for that?
Seriously are you affiliated with Sony in any way?

I'm just waiting for GH: WT at the moment - sounds like there'll be tons of new songs to sink my teeth into (not long now) - and Fable 2....I really, really can't wait for that.

That works both ways when the PS3 trolls go to the 360 forums. Me I'm all for all consoles selling well so we can all benefit from the healthy competition.
EDIT: We will see how much longer all the online gaming is free for on the PS3 as there are rumblings about some games being charged for. At the end of the day companies do need to make money (I do agree that live could be free mostly) so if they charge too much it's up to the consumers to vote with their wallets.
Here's a little thought for you 360 fanboys that are currently trolling here. Lets say MS won this console battle? What if Sony says, screw this, lets go back to making tv's.
I don't think you'll find anyone here (apart from Suivaloom and k109) that doesn't want both Sony AND Microsoft to remain in the console game. And Nintendo for that matter. And, ideally, Sega to jump back in too.
MS will close ALL their first-party studio's and we'd all be stuck with 3rd party crap.
And how do you know this?

Thanks, but I'd rather trust the fairly well documented news that they AREN'T losing money on each console sold anymore...

Don't be so sure with MS. You need healthy competition. It brings out the best in both of them. It pushes both to greater things. Prey that Sony gives MS a fight....
Look, we all know Microsoft aren't saints. Far from it - they are greedy corporation, and would do whatever it takes for the bottom line, of that I have no doubt. However, I also have no doubt that Sony, and Nintendo, are EXACTLY the same. Stop trying to paint Sony as some sort of Mesiah, whereas MS are the anti-Christ - they are all as bad as each other.

Easy Marky-boy
I think LBP will certainly do well. I'm 100% certain that it'll sell to PS3 owners, but - are there any people considering buying the console to play that game specifically?....I'm not sure...
.....no - that's a genuine question; any of you guys thinking of buying a PS3 for LBP?
I don't think people will buy a PS3 for LBP, but I do believe it to be a big slice of the overall pie. I will stick my neck out and say that the PS3 will not sell in impressive numbers until this time next year. By then Sony will be offering a tasty pie at a more affordable price for Oliver and family.
Is there really any need for that?
Seriously are you affiliated with Sony in any way?
I second that lonewolf2002. Let them both do great.
Peace.
Absolutely - competition is a good thing for us consumers....and that's all I care about.
I don't think anyone really wants one true market leader like last gen - I think the main irritation with Sony is their sheer arrogance this time around.
It's all well and good by saying that they think they're well positioned price-wise, but they need to back it up and make it an attractive proposition for the price - they won't do that with things like Home and PlayTV....I'm not even sure if the BluRay angle is particularly interesting these days (considering how much you can pick up a BluRay player for).
It's said a lot on these forums and is maybe a little cliche, but; it's all about the games.
LBP and Heavy Rain are a definite step in the right direction.
Here's a little thought for you 360 fanboys that are currently trolling here. Lets say MS won this console battle?
What if they did? There would still be the juggernaunt that is Nintendo to deal with and I'm pretty sure that they are currenly kicking everyone's bottom!
MS will close ALL their first-party studio's and we'd all be stuck with 3rd party crap.
No they wouldn't, if anything, they would probably let them go independant like Bungie. Secondly, there's been a lot more AAA 3rd party games this year than there has 1st
MS has already a lot of problem sustaining their internal studio's. The signs are already there. Just look on the horizon. MS is currently trying to buy the console industry and i hope to god they don't succeed. They are also losing money on their 360, trust me.
No, they binned 1 of the studio's and are forming another. Also, I hope MS dont succed either, I work in IT so I know what s**te they produce when there is no competition. Dont forget, last gen, Sony were trying to "Buy" the industry as well.
Together with their Games for Windows brand that sticks every pc game to the Live network.....
Another load of tosh, not every game with that label on on GFWL, in fact, I know of very little. MS were trying to put some easily recongnisable branding to PC games, much like "Xbox360" and "PS3" games are branded today.
MS has a FAR worse track record than Sony. Think about that
I did and as far as operating systems go, you are 100% correct, as far as gaming goes, you 100% full of sh*t
Sony was last gen's winner and the industry was none the worse.
I am probably speaking rubbish here, but did we not lose Sega as console maker due to the Playstation?

I don't mean to be argumentative here, but if it was all about the games then the Dreamcast would have sold bucket-fulls of consoles. You see, consoles (however sad it seems) are also extensions of our personalities - almost fashion accessories, if you will. 'Tis why branded clothes are so expensive. Not that I am into branded clothes. One thing that Sony will always have is a cool brand name in 'Playstation', whereas 'Xbox360' is a bit, well, you tell me.

There's no denying the power of the brand name, but I believe the Xbox and Wii brands are just as (or almost as at least) recognisable as Playstation is now.

I'm not sure I agree on the Dreamcast. I think that it died for a variety of reasons that were beyond the range of games that it provided (you also have to remember that it was practically dead when some of the classics were released!).
I do agree on the whole 'extensions' thing (go a bit 'art-school' there?) The PS1 was a fantastic machine and it revolutionised the way that a console can be marketed and advertised...it turned a whole generation onto gaming...it also had a lot more 'killer titles' than the PS3 did at this stage of its' life-cycle.
I think that the main difference is that they were battling first-party developers back then (Sega and Ninty), nowadays, they're up against a company that will do what they did - pay for the titles (DLC etc)....only this company has more cash to do it with.

Is a bit of a bloody good machine like the PS3. How about you tell us whats wrong with XBOX360 or just "360"(that sounds better already). I persoanlly use the cooler just PS3 or 360 nice simple and easy to use just like me.

Yeah, probably.
I can't help but think that the Playstation brand has been ever-so-slightly let down by the PS3, though.
I mean - where are the big Sony titles....not necessarily the Sony made games, but things like Tekken, Wipeout, Gran Turismo?
OK - so, we've finally had WipeOut released and it sounds as if it's gone down brilliantly. Tekken is coming and Gran Turismo has only had (something that even PS3 owners call a 'demo', or - in nicer terms - a 'teaser'). Surely they should have had a couple of these almost ready to ship as the console was released?
MGS4 looks like a brilliant game, but it was kind of on its' own last year - a shame, I think - it could have shifted more consoles if there was a LBP or a Tekken at the same time....people won't buy a console on one game. It seems for every PS3 'big game' - there is 3 360 'big games', that's surely not right?
The 360 didn't have anywhere near as much pressure when it was released, so it had time to grow a little - Sony knew better.

The sad thing is all these Sony fanboys have missed the point.
If Sony could afford to drop the price to match the Xbox, they'd have done it and these same fanboys would be cheering the move like mad and PS3 sales would go through the roof.
The big issue is that with the Playstation 3 haemorrhaging money like it is Sony can't afford a price cut, and that's the only real story here.
They're still paying for mistakes that they made in the design phase when they they were so far ahead in the console war they thought they could shove any old crap down our throats and we'd buy it. The snooker cues have been losing out because of their arrogance for the last two years, and they'll still be paying for it well into the Ps4's life.
I just regret that I bought into the hype machine and got one in the first place, but with the Xbox being so cheap now I'll be able to stop hogging my housemate's and get one in my bedroom.

For me the 360 at the moment has the strongest line-up of games that I want to play(yes I have said this loads of times before). Thats not saying the PS3 is a bad machine, bloody far from it. The PS3 has had some bloody decent games but in my view not as many as the 360. The tide does look like it is starting to change though with some decent RPG's coming(for us shallow people eh Mark)and even LBP which I said was not looking like my cup of tea, after seeing some of the stuff coming from the Beta my mind is being changed quite quickly.
Roll on 2009 and the contiuation of damn fine releases for all the consoles out there.

The primary reason why the Dreamcast failed was due to almost non-existent marketing and poor sales, backed up with a large mountain of company debt... the final nail in the coffin being the imminent release of the PS2 and the buzz surrounding it!
Microsoft have finally managed through a lot of effort and dollars to get the Xbox brand known throughout most of the developed world and will continue to do so.
Sony on the other hand marketed the original Playstation superbly, getting it a cool image through placement and great launch games such as an arcade perfect port of Ridge Racer and the brilliance of Wipeout including contributions from recognised (and considered cool!) bands...they have also kept the Playstation brand massively in the public domain by continuing to be a major sponsor of the Champions League which is watched by billions worldwide and a master stroke in my opinion.

I think Sony actually released a year too early.
i think microsoft DEFINATELY released a year too early. the f**ker was still in the test stages when it got fired out. (still is)
the 360 could have done twice as good as it has done already if these problems werent present. the damage its done to its reputation is severely underestimated - by microsoft and the fanboys.

Almost certainly the case - they were so blinded with the thought of being out the door first, they let a huge design flaw out the door with it. Ironically, had they had that extra year, they STILL would have been first out the door.

Really? I'm unconvinced. Most people I know that have gotten 360s are well aware of possible design flaws, and gotten one anyway. Could it be that you are over-estimating the reputation hit, as some sort of pro-Sony/anit-Microsoft slur?

Funny, I've read that story 3 or 4 times now but never read that in it.
Also why don't you sell your PS3 on Ebay? You will still get about Ł300 for it with a few games then go away and buy a 360. Better than sitting crying about it.

All this crap about "damaged reputation" is precisely that, crap!
Most even-minded people are more than happy to accept a free of charge fix for a superb product like the 360 under warranty without any qualms whatsoever.
It's when they get shafted and left with a repair bill that people get seriously p**sed-off, which in all honesty Microsoft did initially do, but have held their hands up in the end and done the right thing, which if anything has done them no end of good in most peoples eyes!

no. even if people who get a 360 do know all about its problems - its still got the reputation, hasnt it?
dont think many people would "jump in" given its problems, if it were the same price as the ps3. do you?!
and then theres the "720".. who wants a first generation one of them? considering they have still to get their act together to this day regarding the 360, a launch 720 wont be inspiring much confidence.
Personally, I can see the '720' (or whatever it's called) being the most reliable console ever...they'll be wanting to avoid paying out $1B again!
I don't think anyone really wants one true market leader like last gen - I think the main irritation with Sony is their sheer arrogance this time around.
Do you genuinely think Microsoft weren't being arrogant rushing the release of the Xbox360 in an attempt to gain market share knowing it had a serious design fault that would result in 1 in 3 consoles failing within one year of purchase? Like it or not there's no real difference between Sony and Microsofts arrogance.
no. even if people who get a 360 do know all about its problems - its still got the reputation, hasnt it?
Yes - but they fact that they buy it anyway shows that it means little to them.
dont think many people would "jump in" given its problems, if it were the same price as the ps3. do you?!
No, probably not. However, it is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the PS3, and offers just as good a gaming package, so I can completely see why people have 'jumped in'.
and then theres the "720" - who wants a first generation one of them? considering they have still to get their act together to this day with the 360, a launch 720 wont be inspiring much confidence.
You could argue the same with the PS4 - given the fact that only now there is a decent selection of games out there for the system. At launch the PS3 had a pitiful selection of games, and that wasn't rectified for months.
Well you wouldn't would you although you were quick to point out that Msoft might be in the same position soon.
You mean the 40 billion dollar stock buy back? That's not a rumour, it's a fact. Buy Microsoft stock now if you have any spare cash. You could make enough out of it to buy a PS3.

dont talk crap - the RROD hasnt given MS a damaged rep?! put down the pipe.
i know a lot of people (exboxers) who own ps3's for one reason - can you guess?
myself i had a 360 before my ps3. probably would have waited a while to get a ps3 hadnt my 360 snuffed it.
their s**t reliability put one in the ps3 colomn. i guarantee thats not the only.
The 360 is like a pedegree dog. May be prone to take ill more than other dogs but the quality of pleasure it brings more than makes up for it.

Try re-posting that in f**king English, then I might be able to respond!
At launch the PS3 had a pitiful selection of games, and that wasn't rectified for months.
The 360 lacked quality titles after it was released as well. Some of its launch titles were poor (Perfect Dark). Oblivion being the only stand out title for the 360. It wasn't until games like Crackdown came out that the selection improved.

Dont care what anyone says PDZ was great. It was massive online at launch and it sold well. Its only retorspectively 'crap'. A bit like frogger and assteroids.

Not really arrogant, no - more desperate to get that extra 'foot-in'.
Bare in mind that I bought my 360 after the RROD thing was all well documented - in a lot of ways, knowing that you have a 3 year warranty is enough for most to make that purchase (the main deciding factor was Mass Effect - me loves BioWare ). With that in mind, I'm probably not the best person to ask.
Sonys' arrogance stems from the sales of the PS2 - they had it in the bag and they thought they could just release a 'media centre' and not back it up with the 'killer titles' - back when they had the PS1, that was all it was about.
Can you sell things to gamers without games being involved?
no i own both. and it truely pains me to switch the 360 on, after playing the near-silent ps3. its horrendous the noise it makes. are you denying this?!
I dont know. Im too busy blowing s**t up or listening to the crowd noise in FIFA to notice the 360's fan noise. Do you have to play your 360 in a Monastry or something?
I say this openly and honstly. The only time i notice the 360 making any noise is when i first switch it on. After that the noise of me playing games and enjoying myself makes it inaudible.
You lead a sad life if you spend most of it listening to the sound your console makes instead of playing the bastard thing.

It's when they get shafted and left with a repair bill that people get seriously p**sed-off, which in all honesty Microsoft did initially do, but have held their hands up in the end and done the right thing, which if anything has done them no end of good in most peoples eyes!
dont talk crap - the RROD hasnt given MS a damaged rep?! put down the pipe.
i know a lot of people (exboxers) who own ps3's for one reason - can you guess?
myself i had a 360 before my ps3. probably would have waited a while to get a ps3 hadnt my 360 snuffed it.
their s**t reliability put one in the ps3 colomn. i guarantee thats not the only.
"exboxers" = retired Frank Bruno's ?
"ps3 colomn" = rectum of said console?
Try re-posting that in f**king English, then I might be able to respond!
you cant respond (in the way youd like to) because everything ive said about the 360 is the truth. and the truth hurts - so you need to pick on my "english"
you know exactly what i said, no need to repost. you bought a bad quality console. i can say it in any language you like, its still a fact.
Yeah I'm mortally wounded because I've got by far the best console this generation, with the best games, the best on-line services, and a company that does what it says it's going to do and doesn't spout "vapourware", but I'm sure you're happy with your near silent, massively overpriced Blu-Ray player and slavering over the thought of great things to come like "Home"!!
as i said the damage is underestimated, but i think unseen is a better word. many people buy an xbox, knowing their s**t reliability - so how many would buy it if they were solid as a rock? the answer is MORE. probably much much more. i know many people who dont even own a console and are well aware of the RROD fact. they pass it on. and then they pass it on.
And how many more PS3s would be sold if they reduced the price by 100 quid? The answer is more. DEFINITELY much, much more.
and people wont buy a new console (ps4) becuase the launch titles are crap? c'mon now. thats just silly. its a fact if you buy a brand new console that youll be lucky if your playing anything decent for a good while. pathetic arguement there. thats like saying you will sell your console if it has a games drought (which it will)
And your '720 arguement' is any less pathetic? How many gamers buy a console based on the strengths of weaknesses of the previous console? Not bloody many I bet. Otherwise the PS3 would be utterly smashing the competition, and the Wii wouldn't have sold any.
And yeah Voodoo, the Xbox launch line up wasn't good either. But that doesn't validate the Playstation line up and, by comparison, huge cost any more. Sadly, it seems that launch titles like Super Mario 64 are a thing of the past...
no i own both. and it truely pains me to switch the 360 on, after playing the near-silent ps3. its horrendous the noise it makes. are you denying this?!
Agreed, on all counts. He's said this before, and uses it as a constant attack against the 360, but with the tv on to a reasonable level (i.e. normal tv volumes), even when listening out for the 360 noise, you can barely hear it. Through in 'volume cranked up to 11' and surround sound, and you can't hear it at all. It's another of those bandwagon things people seem to jump on - like the 360 only having FPS games, or the load times and pop up being so much worse etc.

i say this more open, honest and qualified than you - you would know ALL about it if you had a ps3, then switched to a 360.
it wasnt an issue with my first 360. then i got a ps3. then another 360. and i swear to god i think this new 360 is actually louder than the one i had ages ago, but this would defy logic.. but we are talking about microsoft here.
when i got my new 360 i was shocked at the noise. but, after a day of play, switching back to the ps3, i was even more shocked - i had to rise off the bed and check if the ps3 was actually on - i heard the beep, but nothing else. in comparison it was truely silent. now f**k off.
I doubt you are actually qualified in anything from the way you are sounding!
the people who buy wii arent the people who usually buy consoles.
What absolute horses**t. I have a Wii, and have had at least one console every generation since the Master System. I also know at least 2 other people with Wiis who are also 'console gamers'.
the ps3 isnt overpriced for what you get.
That depends what you buy it for. Buy it as a multimedia hub, with BluRay player, wireless as standard etc, then no, it isn't. If bought as a games console, it most definitely is. Especially when compared to the competition.
if you dont want everything it offers, thats what the xbox is for.
I'm really puzzled by this. You spend ages telling everyone how poor the 360 is, how only tramps buy them etc., and then state that if you don't want all the functions that the PS3 offers (lets face it, mainly BluRay playback), buy a 360. Just what are you arguing about?
saying the ps3 would sell more if they dropped the price is even more pathetic than your last arguement *makes spaz impression* DUH!!!!!!!
You're how old? And hardly - this is what the news article was about, and the fact that Sony weren't going to drop the price.
my mate, for at least one, says hes steering clear of the 720 initially at least. im sure there are others. when you talk of "strengths of weaknesses" of consoles, it usually isnt meant in a literal way, like the 360. look at that thing wrong and youll be digging out your beloved warranty.
Yeah, ask him again when the 'NextBox' is on the shelves, and the PS4 is 5 years away - which could be a very real possibility...
i think microsoft DEFINATELY released a year too early. the f**ker was still in the test stages when it got fired out. (still is)
Almost certainly the case - they were so blinded with the thought of being out the door first, they let a huge design flaw out the door with it. Ironically, had they had that extra year, they STILL would have been first out the door.
the 360 could have done twice as good as it has done already if these problems werent present. the damage its done to its reputation is severely underestimated - by microsoft and the fanboys.
Really? I'm unconvinced. Most people I know that have gotten 360s are well aware of possible design flaws, and gotten one anyway. Could it be that you are over-estimating the reputation hit, as some sort of pro-Sony/anit-Microsoft slur?

Right, you're boring me now so shut the f**k up!
the 360 is a cheap nasty piece of crap and it is not the best console this generation and could you name these best games please and what is this great online service hmmm
that is what i thought so f**k off you xbot
LOL...what you on about you Schizo t**t, log back on as Kunt109 or has that personality had enough of talking verbal bulls**t!!

Horrible, upsetting and damaging yet somehow We cant take our eyes off it.
Glad to see everyone is working hard as usual.
What's it going to be like when TGS actually kicks off?(Ill bring the crash helmets).
PS: Has anyone else heard if Sony are actually holding a press conference this year, I know MS are and Ninty, well there not even going to show, but someone told me that SOny would not be at TGS for their usual conference speach. Can anyone confirm or rebuke this?
Ł300 is NOT a lot of money for a console which should last you 5 years at least.
wasnt long ago the 360 was around the Ł300 mark. i didnt think that was expensive. i didnt think it was worth it, but its an acceptable amount of money to pay for something your gonna use daily for 5 years.
lets say you buy 360, if you play online then its another Ł200 on top of what you paid for the 360 itself... making it more expensive than the ps3... execpt without the build quality and extra features.
isnt that too much? Ł200 to play it online for its shelf life?
you people are f**ked in the head. it costs too much, does less, makes more noise and you still complain the ps3 is too expensive.
TADA...and for my next trick, I'll make tam reappear!
And yeah Voodoo, the Xbox launch line up wasn't good either. But that doesn't validate the Playstation line up and, by comparison, huge cost any more. Sadly, it seems that launch titles like Super Mario 64 are a thing of the past...
The Xbox360 was Ł300 at launch as well. The 360 was almost 3 years into its life cycle before we started seeing any significant price reductions. Fact is both consoles have failed to live up to the promises made by their respective marketing departments. Do I care? Not particularly, people should be happy with either console.
Tam's banned. K109's starting to crack. You guys, you all crack me up. What a fine afternoons entertainment.
Roll on TGS. Hoping to see something NEW for the UnusedStation3, Something I'll really look forward to, minus everything coming shortly. Which will make a good exclusive for the PS3.
Have a feeling Square will drop the Kingdom Hearts bomb, and hell how the american PS3 owners took FFXIII going multi-format, which was amusing. How would they take this one?
Something new from both parties at TGS is what I'm waiting for. Nintendo, please for the love of god. Suprise us with something.

True, but wasn't the PS3 Ł425? Like I say, comparitively, it was a huge cost.
That's not to say the 360 doesn't have numerous 'hidden costs' (wireless, Live, etc), but Average Joe on the street won't pay much heed to that.
I, however, won't mis him in the slightest. Everyone can have an opinion, that's fine, but he was a severely irritating little sh*t.
He won't be missed but there's quite a few other guys in here that are more than happy to ruin this for everyone. Hopefully CVG will start doing something about it now.
Sadly, as we can see, it's too easy for some of these idiots to open multiple profiles. So he will probably be back again.
True although personally I would say Sony's arrogance and Msofts stupidity.
Nah don't need to buy a PS3 as I sold my soul and signed up to a 30 year Ł500 a month mobile contract to get mine for free

From speaking to a few of my friends that own PS3's and play online they have not been too praise worthy of the service, lag being one of the main points I hear. One who used to be a 360 owner but sold his and got a PS3 said he did prefer live even though it cost you money. Seeing as I still havent got myself back into online gaming yet can anyone tell me about how they feel the free PS3 online is holding up.
For all the people saying that Sony is stupid for not dropping the price, think for a second.
Sony is still selling at a lost. They can't easily drop the price like Microsoft. If they drop the price further, they'll lose even more money.
That's why they're depending on the software to not only increase the fanbase but to also earn them a profit. They're focusing more on the software than the hardware at this point. By next year, this will eventually change once Sony starts making more of a profit.
Then they'll be able to drop the price by then.
I love how 360 fans whine about the price of the PS3, claiming that the average *parent* would buy a 360 for their child, when they attack people for not wanting to spend $50.00 a year for XBL.
Just laughable.
Let me say something here. When that parent does buy that 360 for that child, the child may want additional features to go with that console, especially if their friends have online service, among other things. Kids these days usually want what their friends have.
And the average Joe? What do you know about the average Joe? Average Joe may also consider that he wants the better value for his money regardless of price.
The PS3 is the better value. You get everything all in one for one price.

I would say it's improved a lot. There have been some really great games released on it recently. Last Man Standing, Siren and Wipeout HD etc. I've been addicted to Wipeout HD since it's release and at less than Ł12 it's a bargain. I'm looking forward to Savage Moon and Little Princess coming along soon. Like XBL I would have concerns about changes planned for the system. I'm not sure if Home will improve it but only time will tell. I'm not sure if I would sign up for a Gold account again on XBL although I would probably miss Halo 3 online.

Sounds ok (last game I remember any of them talking about online was burnout paradise so dont know if that had issues early on?) I will get round to online again soon( with R2 8 player co-op being one of the first and maybe buy a gold live subscription begrudgingly for L4D)
What i dont get is all the people saying 360 are cheap, who wants one, its a firesale, its going after the casual market now.
Where these the same people who said this about when PS2 went down to a cheap price to attract the mass market casuals? where these the people who said its cheap for a reason and it breaks down alot? where these the people who said its a sad act for them to do cause afterall its cheap for a reason?
The short answer is NO, they never said that when PS2 in its 3rd year started to run away from the compition which was better in graphics, but was alot more exepensive and push comes to shove when you have kids to buy for and they want a games machine are you really gonna buy the machine at 300 or the machine which starts at 130 quid. in this finicial climate of global recession?
If you answer yes you would then you must be a banker who has just got a big bonus for screwing the world over, if your a normal person, then you go for the cheaper option, cause it hurts the wallet less.
For all the people saying that Sony is stupid for not dropping the price, think for a second.

Thats all well and good but at least with the 360 you can buy cheap and then pay $50 a year for gold live which in fact spreads the payment costs. Where as the PS3 has the bigger initial outlay but then has free online. Swings and roundabouts on costs it just depends on your financial situation and what you have to put down now on a console.
For all the people saying that Sony is stupid for not dropping the price, think for a second.
Sony is still selling at a lost. They can't easily drop the price like Microsoft. If they drop the price further, they'll lose even more money.
Agree with you there. And considering the world economy at the moment, I doubt banks would be all too willing to lend Sony any more money to offset any loses they might make at the moment.
The fact remains though that most people who have their own homes will have less money to spend this X-Mas with rising gas and electricity prices, rising food prices and high interest rates on mortgages and loans. The only people not affected by this are people like k109 who seem to still live with their parents. When faced with a tight budget, people are more likely to go for cheaper alternatives and that includes game consoles. People are not going to spend Ł300 on a console if they can pick one up for half the price, especially at the moment. So while I can understand why Sony are unable to drop the price of the PS3, the fact of the matter is the high price point will hurt it's sales this X-Mas and beyond until Sony are able to lower the price.
I, however, won't mis him in the slightest. Everyone can have an opinion, that's fine, but he was a severely irritating little sh*t.
Yea, you 2 never really seen eye to eye did you!
I try to get on with everyone - or most people But there was really no reasoning with that guy. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but he didn't even have one - instead he just swore at people. I found the guy, shall we say...difficult...
Whats everyone's GT? I need to add friends
I try to keep my friends list full of people that I actually know in real life. Do you not have a bunch of mates with 360s?
Damn, I thought these threads were for expressing your opinions- k109's opinion is that of Sony's- therefore he has no opinion of his own thus making his posts utterly pointless.
In my opinion he should get help.
I just hope that the PS3 sells well enough to shift enough copies of LBP. That game deserves to sell well- it looks great and it's british made- the only game that makes me jealous of PS3 owners...
But then I think of Fable 2... and it all drifts away... Good thing the 360's so cheap- I'm gonna have to buy another one or I'm never gonna be able to wrestle the contoller from the Mrs!
What is in there (really... not "potential" to warrant spending that extra Ł70... a Blu-ray drive... fat lot of good that is if you don't have a HDtv.
Yea it's going to be a "fat lot of good" when games start to get bigger (which is happening now: Here and here(360 game) and I know of games that require (or will) more than one disc (I'm not dissin' the 360 I'm saying that BD disc's are becoming more and more useful and if you look around on the net you will find a few interviews with devs saying that the DVD just does not have enough space for future titles.
Do I smell a xbox 720 soon? Now I am having a go at the 360!
PS: I payed Ł250 for my 60GB PS3 (with 2 games and 2 sixaxis controllers) and I'm so glad that I did!! The best Ł250 that I've ever spent!! I even would of paid more. Its really that good!
People just need to look around to get a good deal!!
I think it's sad actualy that the price you pay for a console could be so important, you have to think about the extras, if you buy the 360 arcade (witch has been cut in price) and then buy a harddrive to that you have to spew up the price close to another 360 arcade, and then if you wan´t wireless on that you are at the same price of aPS3, don´t forget, if you wan´t to play online and not just compare scores in two years you have paid for yet another 360 arcade plus you don´t get the blueray......
I'm glad that Sony are sticking their guns in this current financial climate, but hopefully they have learnt that the gaming public was not willing to pay a bucket load of cash for a machine that only had Blu-Ray going for it at the start of the PS3 life (lets face it the first year games weren't very good). Maybe when PS4 comes out they won't be quite as arrogant when it comes to the launch and eat a bit of humble pie and actually listen to what gamers want instead of having it forced down our throat and been told that it's the best thing since sliced bread.
The PS3 is getting better as time goes by, Wipeout HD is especially good but before that the last game I played on it was MGS4 and that was when it first came out.
With their refusal to lower the price it condemns them to a struggling xmas(no doubt about it). Whether it's the cell or the bluray drive pumping up the price, it seems to suggest that sony can't afford a price drop.
I like my ps3 but i certainly get far more use out of my 360. It's got the better games line-up for sure and has a certain title in the wings that'll outsell any ps3 title towards the end of the year(no i'm not talking about banjo).
Maybe 2009 will be the year of the ps3, but by then the 360 will be Ł99 everywhere. Sony have to respond.
I believe, Sony has to be ready to compete with 360 when 360 reduces its cost, which would create a large price difference between both of them, leading the consumer choose the cheaper one.
