Nintendo has opted for a 'one card, one console' strategy for its new over-arching digital distribution system, Nintendo Points, which will replace Wii Points in the shops soon.
Basically, when you buy a 'Nintendo Points' card from the shops you'll be able to chose to redeem the currency on either the Wii Shop Channel or your Nintendo DSi.
Once the points are on either console it's then dedicated to that machine and you can't transfer them, a graphic on Siliconera reveals.
Considering the local nature of the Wii Shop Channel it's hardly surprising news, but some members of the Nintendo elite are sure to be disappointed regardless.
Have a look at the DSi and all it's lovely download features here.
Since Nintendo stole several thousand Star Points from me, I've paid no attention to this sort of thing anyway. However, surely Ninty must realise that having ONE account - a Nintendo ID - where ALL your points are stored, and are usable in any systems, is the way to go? I am completely bemused by some of Nintendos thinking. They seem to be deliberately obstructive in so many things, because of a misguided belief that 'they are right'. See the Wiis storage issue for one. And friend codes. And online play. And, and, and....
How did they steal them from you? Did they expire or something?
That really sucks, I got 3 VC games from my years of saving up stars.
No, they re-did the site, and in the process my account became lost. Along with all my points. I repeatedly emailed their help section but never once got a reply. My feelings towards Nintendo have never really recovered...

I didn't lose any of my points during the site re-design but I did get an e-mail and 'threats' that my points would start expiring (not all at once though), so I had to use them up on Wii points before that happened even though I wanted to hold onto them.
Wouldn't be surprised if one of the reasons for this is to make more money, as someone will set the points to say the DS and then realize afterwards they want to use the points/remaining points on the Wii and then have to buy another set of points just to do so...
Something ironic about the fact the website redesign (the first time they let us know that we could**eventually** be able to convert stars into points) being the reason you lost yours.
Nintendo Of Europe always was pretty shoddy though and this new website just seems to cover it up.
Can't say I'm surprised at all tbh. Nintendo never takes the consumers opinions into account on anything, they're too selfish and self righteous to listen to anyone else just look at their record, they've got the worst online service of the big 3, the friends code system is a complete shambles and despite the numerous amounts of times that people, companies, reviewers etc have complained about it, they just ignore us all and stick to this ridiculous system, region locking the DSi games is a complete p**stake, they make it extremely hard for a 3rd part to develope for any of their machines just because they want their own games to be best sellers and now they've done this, well done Nintendo but hey who cares, they've got the best selling gimmick around!
