Gears of War 2's moved a step closer to its November 7 release, with developer Epic announcing that work on the game's done and dusted.
"After two years of pouring our heart and passion into Gears of War 2, the team is immensely happy with what we've created," said design director Cliff Bleszinski. "This is Epic's best work yet, and we can't wait to see the response from fans and newcomers to the series alike."
The original Gears sold five million copies and no doubt this is going to be humongous too. We've been playing it in the office the last few days and yes, it is bigger, better and more bad ass.
I appreciate that I may receive a barrage of abuse for this one but...
Is anyone else starting to feel a bit over-saturated with "Gears 2" news? There's still more than a month to go and not a day goes by without another pointless media drop. If we were getting something interesting rather than "Gears 2 is our best work yet" etc it wouldn't bother me, but I'm just waiting now for another article entitled something like "Gears 2 is 'Super' says Cliffy" or "Gears 2 can be played on the toilet if you have a TV in there".
Also, they're hardly going to say "Gears 2 is alright and about on par with our other stuff", are they?
And I know, I know... If I'm not interested I shouldn't click on the link, I'm just sick of stories with no genuine substance.
i feel similar, hate that bleszinski guy, there's so much hype about this game that it might not fulfil expectations, there's a few other quality games coming alongside this year

You could say the same for Killzone 2, every week we get new screens and trailers, as if they are scared people will forget about it if they don't see a new picture.

no your not the only person. as good as this games gonna be we can do without all this crap. have you seen the videos on xboxlive, its like an Epic team stoke-fest with interviews and the team talking up what they've added to the game. hows about you just show us the gameplay? i don't want to sit through 10 minutes of that t**t cliffy B or some bald guy waxing lyrical about how they've created the best game ever just to see 10 seconds of gameplay or a cutscene. show us the game, its what we want.
I must admit that I am getting sick of all the Gears 2 news, even though I am looking forward to it. It isn't just Gears 2 though because even though LBP is my most anticipated game, I am getting sick of reading about that too!
And this years TGS is battering me with the boredom stick! Is there any exciting news at all?! And the tit-for-tat between MS and Sony is also getting on my nerves....
Loads of great games coming, so why am I fed up as a gamer? Personally I think it is all the petty fanboyism, developer chest beating and hype overload!
Maybe I should just stop visiting these sites? It is killing gaming.

Yep, I agree. All this hype worries me, just look at the what happened with GTAV, after all the hype it was a bit of a letdown but thats the way the marketing machine works in this day. Its also the same for LBP, both Gears of war 2 and LBP look to me to be amazing games and I will get both but I'm not gonna be sucked into the hype, I'm not one of these fanboys that runs around saying yay this is gonna be the best game ever! I'll hold judgement for release date on both games.
Hype? Hype? They can sit outside my window stroking a life size effegy of Marcus Phoenix whilst digging an emergence hole on my drive and making 'nah ah ah aH' machine gun noises for the next month as long as the game's up to snuff I DON'T CARE
LBP looks a fun quirky title that'll get great reviews i think, Gears 2 will get the great reviews and massive sales(certainly more than LBP).
I like all this gears 2 constant news, i can't wait for the game. It's definitely the biggest release for the rest of this year on any machine. LBP with its characters made of wool will never have the mass appeal that gears is about to create.
I'll be buying both games though for my 360 and ps3(assuming they both live up to the hype).

Man, that winds me up too... I've had the benefit of playing LBP, so I feel as if I can talk it up (or down) as much as I like (which is too much!). I am 99% sure that Gears2 will be the game that I thought Gears1 should have been.

You don't need big, burly men shooting aliens in the ass to create mass appeal! Look at Wii fit and Brain Training, for instance..... But I do agree that Gears 2 will be the biggest selling game this year between 360 and PS3.
EDIT: Though I do feel that Gears 2 will not sell as much as its predecessor because of the greater number of top quality games out this xmas. There was no where near as much choice when the first Gears was released!

this is my must have game for 2008, i thought the first is still the best game on 360. but i do agree that we are drowning somewhat under a barrage of news and snippets of this game. just get it out! I don't mind Cliff though, he talks a lot of sense compared to what he used to be like. A worthier frontman for Epic than Mark who's always spouting off somewhere or other.
as for LBP, i like the news on this as it's a fascinating title for sure, the only problem is that i don't own a ps3 (yet). I just wish we could have a 360 version. ho hum...
Though I have pre-ordered Gears 2 and definalty looking forward to it, TBH I'm much more looking forward to Fallout 3,Fable 2 and Prince of Persia than I am Gears 2.Prince of Perisa is my GOTY!

Yeah you're totally right, Cliffy B doesn't give a toss what people think about him and says exactly what he thinks rather than pandering to the masses, and good on him for doing it.
As for Gears 2, I don't mind the hype and build up as I'm not stupid enough to think it's going to be the greatest game ever created, but I do know it'll be a brilliant blast and the on-line experience second to none...roll on November!

I'd be willing to wager that Gears2 will sell more than the original did, if you think we've seen enough of it already just wait for the TV campaign to start. This is MS's BIG title this holiday season (damn Yank phrases) and you better believe they wil be hammering this home, big style.

I like Cliffy. He's obviously a gamer and he loves his job. Him and Molyneux (and maybe Miyamoto when he's not losing the plot) are the only guys who come out and show genuine knowledge and passion for their product. I have far more respect for that than I do for some suit who comes out and says "yes we predict this will be a great game, it has these features, blah blah blah".

I've never posted a complaint about late or missed stories. This was a gripe at the lack of content. A dev saying they think this is their best work isn't a story. That's the gripe...
I'm sorry but cliffy B is the biggest marketing whore in gaming. If he was told to he would promote far cry: vengence as the best game ever made. He's a poster boy for the US frat-guy xbox owner who only ever plays gears and halo. Like someone said, lets have some real gameplay footage instead of people telling us how great it is. To be fair to the game, as long as they address some of the silly little problems in the first one, this really cant fail. I'm sure it will be good.

Sorry Cliffy and CO but I wont be buying this until the price drops. Its not that I dont want to play it ,its more that Im a gamer on a budget, I already own loads of shooters including Gears 1 and Prince of Persia and Fable 2 are coming out at the same time.
