Silent Hill gets Euro 2009 delay

Not out until February in Europe
Konami UK has sent out the surprising news that its survival horror instalment Silent Hill: Homecoming has slipped to 2009 in Europe... despite already being on sale in the States.

The 360, PS3 and PC horror instalment was originally due out in Europe for Halloween - and hit North American shelves late last month.

It's now down for release in Europe next February, 2009. No reason was given for the Euro delay.

Homecoming, which had development moved over to US studio Double Helix from Japan, received moderate reviews from North American press, suggesting to some that the slip this side of the pond could be a quality issue.

More than likely though thanks to the many language spoken by our European cousins, is some problem with translation or certification in various regions.

The new release puts Silent Hill almost head-to-head with Capcom's Resident Evil 5. Good luck with that.

When quizzed on the phone though Konami wasn't prepared to give a specific reason for the slip. Quite a disappointing outcome for Silent Hill fans, then.

Too much outstanding competition no doubt. Better to wait til there's a games drought.

Still, going head to head with Resi 5... Oh dear.
DOA.

2009 Survival/Psychological Horror?

MMmmmm, let me think. Oh, thats right Alan Friggin Wake will be out then. Laughing

Fingers crossed we get the new trailer this week at some point.

Back on topic, im not too sure that unless they do an Atari and re-do a lot of the game/controls then it wont be the hit they want, which is a shame as Silent Hill is/was a fantastic franchise.

Although I'm really looking forward to this game, I'm actually pleased it has slipped. 1 less game to buy in the next couple of months will be a good thing.

Are you going for the "first to post" award or what Mr Mature? Calm down, calm down!!

seriously, WTF!?!?!
why the hell do i have to wait for bloody euro translations when i speak bloody english and the game is english voiced already!!!!

i get so p**sed off with this, i really do.

sigh....

a quality revamp would be nice as the reveiws have not been kind, but i dont really care. i will get it day 1 anyway as i think it looks the nuts.

silent hill or resident evil, hmmm sorry resi, my moneys on the horror game first, action game second.

THats' a smart move on their behalf. It was destined to fail releasing at that time of year!
wudragon on 13 Oct '08
If you have got a PS3 you could just import the US version. As far as I know, the 360 game isn't region free.
SoulChimera on 13 Oct '08
i personally don`t understand why we don`t just try to join the NTSC (beyond the fact that it`s another continent)as their games are purely in english (hell you don`t think they care for the mexicans,do you?) and i doubt anyone but france would try to nuke over daring to change censorship boards, besides all ratings are usually done at a national level anyway so wtf?

Nope, just happened to be patrolling that part of the forum at the time. Beats working.
And I don't claim to be the most mature guy around, but really, calling someone 'spunk face' (if memory serves) without any provocation can hardly be deemed a grown up response.

I don't have a go at anyone abusively first, so maybe try looking before making judgements, and the cretin has a history of doing it, just ask Sunscramble who now seems to have exited due to the prat!

Wasn't Feb 2009 the original release date for this title anyway? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

I wondered where he'd gone....
And I know exactly what Voodoo is or can be like - I've had 'cross words' with him myself. Which thankfully, seems to be sorted now.
It just seemed that you went from 0-60 in no short order before.

That's not to say the term 'spunk face' didn't cause me to smirk...
_Marty_ on 13 Oct '08
Yeah I'm downloading this as soon as it's on Rapidshare. I'll be buying it now depending on what kind of lame ass excuse they give for the delay in the UK and English speaking countries.

Fair enough and I've got no qualms with you, but I'm not interested in making peace or being amicable with tossers like him and a few other bell-ends on here who as long as you agree with them (or more importantly to them) with Sony, are cool...and when you have to put as your strap-line that snooker cues like "Voodoo is stalking me!" as Sunscramble did, it's a sad affair!
Tonyb on 13 Oct '08
The new developer FUBARed this series badly,Konami
has to give this back to the original developers.
The game has a few bad bugs and I found that you have to rely on melee weapons more often than guns to
take out Bosses.
People you should be thankful for the delay,go waste
your money on something else besides this short
piece of crap game.
PostMortem on 13 Oct '08
I can understand the dely some what.
Considering the competition starting from this month to Decemember, it'd be extremely hard for this game to get a look in.
Although releasing around the time of Resi 5 is also suicide so they can't really win.
May as well have released it now so people can pick it up in the bargain bin come new year... Laughing
vulcanraven01 on 13 Oct '08
I have to admit I'm not bothered about Homecoming being delayed as I've imported it. I can't see it selling well against Resi 5 though.
I'm enjoying the game at the moment. At least I might have it completed by the time Resi 5 come out!!
balhallam1 on 13 Oct '08
When it was released in the US I was expecting Konami to give us a release date for this. When it didn't happen I kind of suspected a further delay but not by 4 whole months.
It happened with Origins and it's happening again with Homecoming.
Fans in the US absolutely love this game despite what the reviews are saying and as a Silent Hill fan myself I have absolute faith that this game will be a good one.
Will we be playing Alan Wake before Homecoming? At this point I think it's quite possible.
jadehill2001 on 13 Oct '08
Releasing this now would have been a mistake due to the increased competition, but they should have pulled their fingers out and released it at the same time as the US version. Now i'm d/ling it instead.
discostoo on 14 Oct '08
Couldn't really care about this tbh, by all accounts it sounds no Silent Hill 2 beater!

That means theres every reason to get SH2 out again for Xmas! Very Happy
