Bumped as the same rumour continues to do the rounds.
EA is set to reveal a brand new entry in Bullfrog's cult classic Syndicate series, CVG has been told.
Cast your mind back to when Starbreeze struck that deal with EA to resurrect one of the publisher's "classic franchises" and Syndicate was hotly tipped. Starbreeze definitely sounds like a good fit for the gritty cyberpunk universe as well.
No more details were offered by our secret agent, but to see a current-gen remake of the PC and PSOne RTS - which still has a cherished place in many a veteran gamer's heart - would no doubt please many.
In case you're wondering what we're on about, the original Syndicate was released in 1993 and later followed up in 1996 by Syndicate Wars.
The game put players in charge of a militant global corporation, and tasked them with leading cyborg agents around a gritty cyberpunk world rescuing captured allies and assassinating rival syndicate executives. It was awesome.
We'll let you know if our deepthroats are on the money. In the meantime, which genre would you like to see a modern day Syndicate sliced into?
OMG FRIGIN HAPPY DAYS!! synd was the first game i ever played on my pc, and is still my fav game of all time, EA dont p**s this one up otherwise ill hunt you all down and burn your houses down with you in it!!
f**king KICK-ASS! Only 3 comments though??!?!? Shows how little gamers know these days. Syndicate, Doom, ALone in the Dark, Monkey Island, Civilisation and Sim City were THE games that launched the PC into being the leading platform for gaming.
Please please please don't screw this up. I remember buying a mag with a review to this on holiday and wanting it so badly. Then I got a couple years later and it was everything they said it would be. Oh the fond 286 memories.
OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD! loved the original on the Amiga, never finished that damn last level though, will be very interesting to see how it'll turn out with the latest hardware
same here. I remember when you used a shotgun on someone and your victim's body would recoil back - I thought it was the most shocking and violent thing ever. 4 GTAs later and Im happily desensitised to almost everything!
Both games were awesome, but to the people who said they were hard.... yeah they were! espesh when you go to that from something like ZOOL!
fanboy Im still waiting for a new version of Flashback
OMG that was a mint game, totally forgot about that one...(gets on limewire for an emulator)
jaycee900 Loved this classic on the Amiga and CD32, can't wait for a decent sequel!
You had a CD32 as well!??! YOU were the other person then? lol That so should have made it as a console, at least for a few years more than it did, i reckon sequels to microcosm and rise of the robots would have been great. even if you could get in a powernap during the load times.
yeh i agree with an above post, it was a very hard game, but was brilliant. I never like the sound of an old classic being resurrected by EA!!! Lets be honest maybe i havent thought this through but the only old classic that was a smash hit was GTA!!! i think alot of people forget GTA was an old game.
Oh and great shout in one of the above posts, somebody should definately attempt a remake of flashback!!!!!!!
Any game where you could cheat by naming your profile "pooslice" should not be followed by a disappointing sequel. This is possibly the best news ever however.
Was it not EA who killed off Bullfrog in the first place? Let’s just hope they aren’t going to urinate on their grave. Bullfrog and Syndicate deserve better than being desecrated by EA.
f this is true i cant w ait me and mypals have all ways talked about how good it would b. I hope they make it like ghost recon or ranbow six,has i truley baleve that would be the best oppstion. if thy make it a FPS they better make it the best dame FPS the games world has ever seen or eles it will b s**te.
i was far too young to remember syndicate. frankly what i want more than anything is Dungeon Keeper 3. But still, a Bullfrog game is a bullfrog game, and with EA's recent push for quality over quantity, I'm hoping for so much. DRM is a problem, but they did put Crysis Warhead on Steam... here's hoping.
reiterating what so many have said before me; ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod AWESOME.
when my family got our first REAL modern computer, a laptop for my dads job (our first computer was a zx81 my dad used for calculating and our first modern computer was a 2 colour laptop with flight simulator) it came installed with syndicate, doom and civilisation. i became the doom fanatic, my brother the civilisation fan and BOTH of us went ga-ga for syndicate. it was about 1996 that i got a copy of syndicate wars and went even MORE ga-ga for that game!
being able to charge up your pulse lasers was an awesome feature. being able to throw nuclear grenades and level buildings, also awesome. being about to hunt out secret gang meetings in a hidden corner of a mission map and waste them, thus stealing the technology or money they were about to trade: awesomest!!!
ok so defintely this game will be gritty. it HAS to be violent (i.e. long range sniper rifles MINCING the target and flamers burning flesh off and leaving just a skeleton). to be honest i'd love to see a non fixed viewpoint, that allows me to either view 3rd person isometric and see all my agents, but also be able to zoom into 1st person and get that 1st person feel of really being there in that dark, cyberpunk world.
This would be bloody good if it happens. As long as they stick to the first Syndicate and don't try and add too many new and in my eyes unneeded additions then it should be awesome. The first one I used to play for hours and really really enjoyed it. I used to take control of most of the city with the mind control thingy and then blow them all up. Just for laughs. Ha!
They find a target, kill it and take the remains back to the R&D department. They bolt on all sorts of undesirable modifications and bring it back to a mockery of life. Then they put it back on the streets, where it can brainwash the masses and bring power and wealth to the corporation at all costs.
I thoroughly enjoyed Syndicate back in 1993, but with no sign of EA relenting in it's DRM charge of epic proportions I'm not even going to bother keeping a tab on this title. A shame but so be it. DRM SecuROM with rootkit capabilities and limited activations = instant deal breaker each and every time no matter what the game or whom publishes it.

DRM is often not disabled even on Steam and Crysis Warhead is no exception in this case. Please be sure do a thorough check on "third-party" DRM features on games available on Steam.
Excellent news, the 1996 3D version was a good version too. I wonder how dated that looks now? Still loved all the games though, bring on the mods, miniguns, missiles and mayhem - oh yes and the guass guns
Hopefully it will come to PC and PS3. I don't know why developers don't make use of the ability to control games using a keyboard and mouse on the PS3. As I tend to play more on the consoles than PC these days after my appalling Crysis experience... but that's another story
Let me guess: you'll get one installation only, and if you need to reinstall it for whatever reason, an EA rep will have to come round and inspect your PC.
It will be built mainly for the console market, and ported over to the PC from the PS2 code.
The manual will be a PDF file on the disc, which will need to be in the drive when you play it, despite the fact that it will also call home every time you boot.
The EULA will include a clause where you agree that all emails and phone calls may be monitored by EA. If you are found bad-mouthing them for whatever reason, your right to play the game will be suspended and they will format your hard drive. Your bank account will also be frozen, and your assets stripped.
It will contain unskippable adverts in the cutscenes too.
Or it'll be like The Sims 3 and have disc-based DRM built in. Usually helps if you do your homework before badmouthing someone.
I loved the original on the SNES and then Syndicate Wars on PC a few years later. Amazingly deep and complex. Was Syndicate one of the first ever sandbox games? I remember that you had the ability to take on the missions in pretty much any order you found them. You only got a few to choose between, but the same could be said of GTA. Hmm...
