Get all the trophies in a PS3 game and you earn yourself a coveted Platinum Trophy that sparkles on your XMB. But Sony could have more in store for trophy hoarders, according to the US Official PlayStation Magazine.
"We've heard that SCEA is mulling over some sort of Trophy reward system," it says in the latest issue of OPM.
"We doubt it'll be cash (or the equivalent), but we suspect it might be exclusive access to early betas and the like," the magazine speculates.
Sony UK declined to comment on the rumour, but we'd say access to exclusive wallpapers or themes via the PS Store could also be possible, or early access to demos. Would be nice.
Both Sony and their trophies and Microsoft and their achievements should be made usable for 'buying' DLC IMO. If 100 gamer points equalled 10 MS Points, it would actually make them useful, rather than a tool to exacerbate willy waving...
i have well over 100 trophies, only one of which is gold - and platinum will be bastard hard to get. this is why i think trophies are much better than the one-dimensional achievements on the 360.
You just can't resist having some sort of dig at the 360, can you? Go and get the 'Flawless Dumming' achievement on Rock Band (100% on expert drums) and tell me they are one-dimensional.

The so called "one dimensional achievements" on the 360 is their strength. Uncomplicated, easy to access, instantly identifiable, that's why for me, at the moment at least, I prefer the 360's achievements.

does 360 achievements give you an incentive, or a reward when you get ALL achievements from one game?
flawless drumming. get a grip of yourself. anyone who buys that s**tE should get a "drumstick" poked through their eyeball. losers game.
if your gonna pay for that, you might as well get a professional electronic drum kit. but wait, theres no spazzy graphics to egg you on to be a drumming superstar. and theres skill involved.
pathetic game. thats all it is too - a game. dont be under any illusions that its professional. no matter what sellout dickhead puts their name to it.
f**king hell, tell us what you REALLY think for a change.
does 360 achievements give you an incentive, or a reward when you get ALL achievements from one game?
Other than a personal sense of pride and 1000 gamer points, no. But I do not consider a large flashing trophy any more of an incentive either.

Well, thousands would disagree.

Yes, because there's absolutely no skill involved in the likes of Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Aside from the fact that these are both GAMES. No driving game out there demands that you have a driving licence, and the last time I checked, PES didn't require you to be a professional footballer.
pathetic game. thats all it is too - a game. dont be under any illusions that its professional. no matter what sellout dickhead puts their name to it.
Who said any different? I can't wait for you to point out all those bits of software on the PS3 that aren't games though.
I thought I didn't really care about trophies until I upgraded my PS3 HD again and thought I'd lost all my Wipeout HD trophies. I was flaming raging but ever so glad to see them all appear again when I went online.
I think the PS3 trophies are excellent. A great incentive to replay older games. I replayed Uncharted and Burnout and fell in love with them all over again.
If you get rewards for this that can only be more incentive. I personally think it'll exclusive gamer pictures or themes but it's still a good idea.
I don't see how people can slate the 360 achievements as it's through their success we have trophies in the first place.
The whole idea of getting recognition for your skill pleases me. It's just a shame it's not implemented into a higher percentage of games.
I'm three trophies away from a Platinum on Burnout by the way... hehehe
I don't see how people can slate the 360 achievements as it's through their success we have trophies in the first place.
Because k109 doesn't believe Microsoft can do anything right, and thinks that the 360 is a failure in every way possible. He's also of the misguided belief that trophies are vastly different (and it seems superior with it) to achievements.
And yes, k109 - ironic. Trophies were, and are, an afterthought in PS3 games. This makes them no more or less worthwhile than their 360 counterparts, but an afterthought they were. And as Currychips pointed out, there would be no trophies were it not for the success of achievements.
its more ironic that most MS achievements feel like an afterthought, and MS pay devs to include them. playing through PGR4 and i was getting loads of achievements... for simply playing through the game (on easy!)
This guy really is a bell-end
Trophies could be better, if all games had them and people had a proper gamercard like you do on 360.
But sadly thier half-assed efforts prevent them from being as good as they could be.
I always get multiformat games on 360 for 2 reasons
1. Online multipalyer IMO is better, as more people I know have 360s (And cos I've paid for it - better use it) 2. Because of the gamerpoints - if Trophies were guarenteed with all releases I'd definately buy a few more PS3 releases

Don't forget headsets. While this is both a blessing and a curse, everyone has a headset.
I got all the golds on wipeout HD! Still gotta do the 50 eliminations online silver trophy to get the platinum though.
Has anyone checked out the trophy requirements for warhawk? you'd have to put in literaly 1000s of hours to get the platinum for that sucker. i really like that game but i don't think i like it that much!
for instance i have over 100 trophies. at a glance that sounds good, but only one is a gold, and maybe 10 or so silver... and no platinums -
Get yourself Unchartedrake's Fortune. It's a fantastic game and I got all the trophies on that in about 2 weeks. A couple are a pain to get, but it's rewarding to see that Platinium trophy on your profile
someone with loads of achievement points doesnt mean hes a good gamer. could simply mean youve bought old second hand games that cost next to nothing on xbox and whored them out.
trophies are far more reflective of skill (kind of the point!) someone with 5 platinum trophies shows they are a formidable gamer.. on the mighty ps3 entertainment system.
for instance i have over 100 trophies. at a glance that sounds good, but only one is a gold, and maybe 10 or so silver... and no platinums -
more doesnt mean better, and thats exactly why trophies are better than achievements.
Who on earth said achievement points were about the quality of the player? While 'some' achievements require a great deal of skill (see 100% expert for each instrument on Rock Band as an example), most are just about how much time you put in. Dead Rising, for example - kill 53,000+ zombies. That's not, in any way, difficult, just massively laborious.
I strongly expect many trophies are the same.
Now get over yourself - you hate the 360, big deal, now change the bloody record.
WANTED: ppl willing to sell out there soul and help each other get the coveted platinum trophy on warhawk, only have about 30% of the damn thing and dyin for some help to get more.
WANTED: ppl willing to sell out there soul and help each other get the coveted platinum trophy on warhawk, only have about 30% of the damn thing and dyin for some help to get more.
See, this just perfectly illustrates my point. It is not skill required to get this trophy, but an investment of time.

Absolutely no different to achievements.
no thats stat padding, and its cheating.
i have 1 gold and maybe 10 silver, from 120 trophies (rest are bronze) that shows they are roughly the correct difficulty to achieve. if they were simple id have more silver and gold. a lot of bronze come with time, but most of my silver (and my gold) trophies have been targetted specifically.
It shows nothing of the sort - perhaps you are a terrible gamer...
didnt say anything about hating the 360.. you change the record t**t.
I'm sorry, what? Just a brief look at your posting history shows that you go on, and on (and ON AND ON) about how the 360 is a cheap piece of s**t, is louder than a factory, has no good games, all it's features are poor rip offs of the PS3s (whether it came first or otherwise) blah blah blah. You are CONSTANTLY berating the 360 - this attack on achievements is just your latest one.
i have well over 100 trophies, only one of which is gold - and platinum will be bastard hard to get. this is why i think trophies are much better than the one-dimensional achievements on the 360.
you need to collect every trophy in a game to get platinum. so theres bound to be at least one or two thorn-in-the-sides preventing you from picking up that platinum, unless you really get stuck in.
Wow. Yet again you have convinced us all with your well written logic again.
Just one thing though, as the 360's Achievments were obviously an afterthought and the PS3's Trophies so well planned and thought out, how many Trophies have you got on all your PS3 games?
Oh wait a minute not all PS3 games have Trophy support, that dosent sound very well planned does it? This cant be Sony were talking about here, is it?
I do prefer the trophy system to achievments, but I think Sony should concentrate on getting trophies in all of their games before they start with this kind of thing.
I would have well bought Pro Evo on xbox if I hadnt been lied to about the trophies.
Where are they? It was reported on this website they were definatley gonna be in it, but there isnt any.

idiot.
Ill have you know its Village Idiot, at least thats what Ill be when playing Fable 2 this weekend.
Cant you think of anything better than 'idiot' to try and prove your point? Wait a minute what am I saying, k109 displaying logical common sense? How could I have been so wrong.
The only thing you have proven is how much of an 'idiot' you are, bring back Suiv at least his madness was funny (in a way), your ... well ... your ... your just ... how can I put it ... your ... just ... sad.
what im doing is not Stat padding, there are simply trophies in warhawk that need co-operation rather than "stand there while i shoot you all at once with a sniper rifle"
for example the silver medal for having a dropship witha driver and 8 other members all loaded, luckily this happend by complete fluke during one game and i know its never happend since.
im aimin to create a warhawk clan and help others get awards they cant usually do on there own, i would also like a clan full of skilled players, i agree stat padding is useless and doesnt require any skill some trophies do however need communication and teamwork and cant phisiclly be done on your own.

So far i've got 96 trophies, 74 bronze, 17 silver, 4 gold, & 1 platinum trophy off Burnout Paradise. So yeah 1 platinum = 1 beta would be nice, but so would earning points & use them on the PS store.

You see, it's comments like this that mean you'll never be treated as anything other than a source of ridicule on this site.
You obviously don't appreciate gaming if that's what you think - GH and RB are games, I've never once met someone who plays them that is under any delusion of musical talent. They're also incredibly challenging games - far technically difficult than any racing game (console based, at least) when set to the higher levels. I can only assume that you tried it once, sucked at it, then moaned about how 'rubbish' it obviously is....either that, or you take yourself way too seriously.
More than anything though, I'm confused why you're back here with us 'gaming nerds' - wasn't that the term you used the other day?....I think it was.
Why don't you get your mate tam/tam2/crimbo and go somewhere like gametrailers.com - you can swear all you like there and pass off your 'opinion' as 'fact' as much as you want. You guys give the PS3 a bad name with your constant b******s derailing every thread.

Agreed. P*ss off K109 unless you've got a proper comment about the article.
Hi everyone im new to the forum and recentley got a ps3 got a few gd games on it. But what does PSN stand for and the like and what playstation network/ is it free??? so help plz Thanks in advance
The ps3 is getting a lot better with the introduction of all these trophies etc.
It's still not as good as microsoft's achievement system but it's getting there. I do like the trophy system on the ps3 though. It's improved the games that support them no end in terms of replay value. Hopefully one day it'll be present in every single game(like on the 360).
are much better than the one-dimensional achievements on the 360
They were so 1 dimensional that Sony copied them, pretty sure that the next Wii will have something similar too; the concept is very popular with gamers.
flawless drumming. get a grip of yourself. anyone who buys that s**tE should get a "drumstick" poked through their eyeball. losers game
When you have friends, you know, real life one's, who come round to your house? These types of games then come into their own, trust me, they do. I have friends.
achievements seem like an afterthought compared to ps3 trophies.
MS pay devs to include them
Are you that retarded? Why would MS pay dev's to include them??? MS Stipulate however, that if you want to release a full commercial game on the 360, it needs to have 1000 achievement points.
someone with loads of achievement points doesn’t mean he’s a good gamer. could simply mean you’ve bought old second hand games that cost next to nothing on Xbox and whored them out.
So am I correct in saying that, somebody could go, buy a load of cheap 360 games with easy achievements, then get them to bump up their score aye? How is that different in any way to cheap PS3 games with easy trophies? EG - bronze trophies, the easy ones to get? (I assume here, I don’t have a PS3)
I have 1 gold and maybe 10 silver, from 120 trophies (rest are bronze) that shows they are roughly the correct difficulty to achieve. if they were simple id have more silver and gold.
Nope, it shows that you are a sh*t gamer with no patience and/or dedication to get the silvers/gold’s. That would explain your Rock Band/Guitar Hero stance.
clutching at straws you are, ya freak. your insecure at how bad your system is, and coming out with a pre-emptive strike.
I read these boards every day, the only insecure person is you. If "your" system was so good, you would not go on every single bloody thread slagging off the 360 and praising how good the PS3 is.
I’m a jumped up stupid little pr*ck (ironically with a stupid little pr*ck which has never been used beyond my own hand) and i really should learn when to just shut the f*ck up.
That is the most sensible thing that you have ever said on these boards.
I don’t normally post replies to your garbage, but I've had a bad day at work today and you've just annoyed me with your sheer ignorance.
Now, back on topic:
That would be a great move from Sony, it would certainly give people an incentive to go and get some plat's. Espec if you knew there was a Beta coming up you really wanted to get into, you would break your back to get platinum just to get in.
again, ive said f**k all about how poor the 360 is. again you bring it up.
Perhaps not in this thread (PERHAPS), but in nigh on every other...
clutching at straws you are, ya freak. your insecure at how bad your system is, and coming out with a pre-emptive strike.
Assuming *my* system is the 360, then this just shows that you ARE saying the 360 is poor. Or bad, whatever.
i know its bad, believe me. can YOU shut the f**k up about it?
Once again, this is you saying it's bad. I've underlined the part where you said it so you can easily recognise it - being the simpleton that you appear to be.
Achievement and Trophies for me, is a load of crap.
I play games for enjoyment and I don't need an 'incentive' to play/replay a game. The quality of the title does determines how much play-time I put into it.
The only game that has any sort of achivement that I care about is BF2. I've never been one to go and get all the badges or awards nor am I pre-occupied with gaining rank (I could probably get 2 basic badges which are 'holding me back' for an instant promotion).....I'd rather show my quality by comparing my kill to death ratio orhelping team-mates within the game.
I don't play BF2 to try and hit the top of the leader board like some people do, getting 76 kills and 70 deaths doesn't do it for me.....but 25 kills, 2 deaths and a shed load of team points is much more impressive to me. Basically what I'm saying is that the whole reward system is only worthwhile if there is end product as opposed to some sort of bragging right such as a 'high score' or 'penis extension moment'.
Hi everyone im new to the forum and recentley got a ps3 got a few gd games on it. But what does PSN stand for and the like and what playstation network/ is it free??? so help plz Thanks in advance
it stands for playstation network and it is free to sign up and play games online and most of the playstation store is free apart from some download games and map packs
Thanks alot mate i aint signed up so shall i if i do what games shall i get and ty again
Kudos to sony for a good idea, whether or not it pans out remains to be seen though! The only point I'd make in regards to point vs. trophies is simply that trophies don't reflect what you've achieved in the same way as points do, with trophies you've got Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum and that's it, points amounts vary from game to game and achievement to achievement, the more points, the more difficult the achievement- in champ(ahem, football manager) you got 2points for some achievements that were easy like win a game or buy a player but get far more for winning a season etc, by comparing gamer cards and points awarded it's clearer how good a person is at that game, if that was PS3 they'd be bronze but then so would the 10 and maybe 15 point achievements end result being on 360 I have 3 achievements totalling 35 points and the gamer I'm playing has 3 totalling to 9 points, on PS3 we both have 3 bronze with no indication as to the difficulty involved!
Nintendo should band wagon jump but give you star points, so you can convert them to points for the shop!
on ps3 the trophies are the same every game.on 360 all the acheivements look different. anyway ps3's waste of money and it's got rubbish games. P.S. sony copied microsoft
