Treyarch's unleashed a host of details about the forthcoming PC beta for Call of Duty: World at War.
You'll need to register on the official site, after which you'll be assigned a beta key and be instructed to create a unique profile.
A profile name is required because, for the first time ever in a Call of Duty PC title, console staples such as friends lists and invites will be introduced.
"We didn't want the new Squad mechanics we've developed to get watered down on the PC, which is ultimately why we decided to bring you Friends & Invites, and thus globally unique profile names," says the developer.
"... We've added in clan tag prefixes, which will show up in-game. This should allow you to take full advantage of our Friends & Invites features, and still be able to make yourself more uniquely identifiable in-game."
You'll be able to host your own servers, but for the duration of the beta the dedicated server will be Windows-only.
All user accounts will be deleted after the beta, so you'll have to rebuild your experience points and repopulate a fresh friends list when the game releases proper.
While there's still no firm launch date for the PC beta its release is "rapidly approaching", according to the developer, and more details are due shortly.
We should hope so. The game's due out in a little over three weeks, on November 14, for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, PS2 and DS.
In the meantime you can check out all our CoD: World at War coverage here, and let us know whether you've been playing the Xbox 360 beta and what you think. Does it match up to the explosive online action in Infinity Ward's CoD: Modern Warfare?
played the 360 beta, got into it some how when i signed up for the pc one a wile ago
and the game plays like a badly made cod 4 mod, perks are exactly the same, textures are there about the same, animations the same, sound quality is the worst i have ever heard
