Wii firmware update released

Wii Points get name change, Wii Shop changes made
Is the disc slot on your Wii glowing blue this morning? It should be, because Nintendo has released a firmware update that makes some changes to the Wii Shop.

After updating, Wii Points will be called Nintendo Points, as Nintendo announced they would when DSi was revealed, but they will otherwise work the same.

The Wii Shop's also seen some minor changes. Nintendo having changed the icons for them and adding a new prompt to confirm you have the controllers before being able to press the purchase button, according to translations of the Japanese Store update text.

Seems it wants to make damn sure all those non-gaming mums have the right 'newfangled' gadgets for the games they purchase.

Other than that, all remains the same. And no, we can't tell you if it break that home-made channel.

Gah, I guess that means I'll have to switch the Wii on again then. Well worth it too - patching the word "Wii" to read "Nintendo". Excellent.

This news is thrilling beyond words.

I've updated mine and it still says "add Wii points" rather than Nintendo points.

I can't tell no difference, then again I use my Wii so infrequently I can't remember what was there before. Confused

I wish people would stop whining about the lack of games on Wii. Surely if you bought the Wii, you knew whattype of games were going to be released, if not, you've only got yourself to blame.
The Wii has many great games, Im sure you dont own all of them.
If your one of the idiots buying Ninjabread man, then thats why you think the Wii sucks.
I'm happy with Smash Bros. Mario Kart, Metriod, no more heroes, etc.

What would you prefer, all consoles to be identical??

Well I won't be downloading this until I know if it breaks The Homebrew Channel or not.

Wow, you really are a dillusional little Wii lover aren't you? I didn't expect lots of 3rd party, family orientated, casual crap to be on the Wii when I bought it. Why would I? I'm a Nintendo fan & expected a similar experience from the Wii as I got from the GC & N64. Nintendo's new direction makers me sick, but I hope they know what they're doing, because I'm not sure who's going to buy Wii2 when all the mums & nans are over this fad & Nintendo have p**sed off all it's core users.

As for the Wii having "many great games", yes, it has.. & yes I have played them all. The last decent release from Nintendo was back in April with Mario Kart. APRIL!! Rolling Eyes Not good enough. Now I'm not sticking up for anyone who would go out & buy Ninjabread man but in all honesty, how much choice does the average Wii owner have when it comes to new games?

Fanboy! Rolling Eyes

Well you need to go get yourself SSB and De blob for starters.

What's with all the hate for Ninjabreadman? I thought it was awesome! Wink
SDDowns on 23 Oct '08
Would say the same about the homebrew channel, but I haven't updated mine since the update that fails the freeloader came out. I know there are alternatives but I want to make the most of the disc I had to pay for.

Oh and definetly get Wario Land: The Shake Dimension Very Happy

And as some other people have mentioned games like De Blob, though technically can't count Okami seen as that's a port...

Monkey is right, Wii is dead.

At least until they get F-Zero or Starfox shipped.
