Joysticks: MGS4 sneaks PlayStation GoTY

GTA IV and Call of Duty 4 didn't see a thing
Metal Gear Solid 4 has been voted Game of the Year in the PlayStation GoTY - Sponsored by Official PlayStation Magazine HD category at the Golden Joystick Awards.

We were about to type, "and who could suggest any other winner?" But a glance at the two runner-ups proves just how tight the PlayStation category was; both Call of Duty 4 and the mammoth Grand Theft Auto IV missed out, but it was a very close call indeed.

As for MGS4, we're glad it's finally got a gong to show for its - we think - under-praised arrival earlier this year.

Read all the Golden Joystick Awards news as it happens in our live blog.

Meh.

Never played it. Never will. Metal Gear has never enthralled me since Metal Gear 2...

A worthy winner, congratulations Kojima san. The only game to move me to tears at the end.

Good. It has been GoTY all year up until perhaps LBP is released.

One of the best games ever made. Nothing like it. Not even close.

This was my thought exactly. Laughing

*Waits for someone to start listing PS3 games*

I want to play games not watch them. Especially when the cutscenes are so boring and hammy. Kojima could have kept every cut scene down to 5 - 10 minutes at the most and the game would have been a classic. As it stands, it's just self indulgent. Shame, as when you actually got to play it, it was great. Definately not my game of the year.

Good job they didn't have to come up with more than three.

This was the stand-out wrong choice for me out of every award handed out. Yes, competition was very poor but even so...GTAIV all the way. MGS4 has 2, mabye 3 stunning acts, the other 2 were dull. incomplete in its consistency.

Glad to hear it!
It's a stunning game ( a real treat for fans of the series) and its great to hear it getting the praise it deserves Very Happy

It's true, though. As the only noteworthy PS3 exclusive from that era, it's not like they could even vote for anything else.
