The 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards has come and gone - well, at least for those watching it online. We're just getting into our groove at the after party and we've got a feeling we're going to have some sore heads tomorrow.
The awards were hosted by funny man Frankie Boyle, and in case you didn't manage to tune in to watch them live we'll bring you a brief recap of what happened below, though there will be another chance to watch the awards show if you missed it. Keep an eye out for that.
Basically Activision cleaned up. Call of Duty 4 scooped four awards (Multiplayer Game Of The Year, PC GOTY, Online GOTY and Ultimate GOTY), and Call of Duty 5 taking the One to Watch award. Oh yeah, and Activision won publisher of the year too.
Rockstar also nabbed three gongs, picking up Developer Of The Year, Soundtrack Of The Year and Xbox GOTY for Grand Theft Auto IV.
There were of course plenty of other awards and winners too, and you can see how it all went down minute by minute by checking out our live blog coverage from our man on the floor.
By clicking on the link you'll also find a bunch of photos from the event, including some of those lovely ladies from The Sun.
If that's not enough here's the full list of winners for you. Click on the individual links for more information about each award, including who just missed out on a gong.
seems good to me all the games that desirved it got an award surprised that the xbox game of the year was only cod thot they might have had an exclusive still an amazing game
can any of u lot read? Nice for mgs4 as it was my first one expt a brief stint on mgs1(couldnt play it) COD4 big respect(pres 10 and almost finished all the head shots ect)ONLINE only the single game was good. But not many stand out no bioshock or oblivion?gta4 ,mgs4 and cod4 all good solid hours to play through again and again.next year will be more varied between publishers/developers as the games been made expand there creative limits on the 2 huge consoles. The ones with the grunt to shift graphics and code.
Intersting that 2 of the winners were actually released in 2007
that would be because they were released after last years Golden Joystick, so they were listed for this years, games like CoD World at War and Fallout 3 will appear in next years show as they were released after this years voting.
gta IV, this game actually is very shallow, san andreas still rules, mabey the dlc we'll be getting on the xbox might fix a few issues. Rock band? i wouldnt take this award list too seriously at all, most wanted should have been gears of war 2, im playing fallout 3 and it dosent seem to be that good! as for metal gear solid i had more fun playing drakes uncharted adventure and still keep giong back for more! lool, nintendo can go to hell.
Worst Golden Joystick ever... Just a pile of corporate tosh with everyone involved trying to get their little peice of the action... (those sponsored titles just say it all really...) We need an award list that really gets to the heart of what games are doing rather than pat the already well patted heads...
MGS4 was by far a better game than GTA4, yet it wins the plaudits because it sold extremely well. Golden Joysticks are about sales these days rather than about quality, hence why Activision cleaned up. YES COD4 is a greast game.....no, it's not better than MGS4 though.....
I don't see what all the fuss is about. Its the public that choose the games and its the publics vote that decide the winners. Of course COD4 was going to clean up here, its the only game people play these days. I'd have loved to have seen Battlefield: Bad Company take away COD4's thunder but that was never going to happen, especially since BF:BC is less single player tactics and more random explosions.
A lot of Nintendo Fanboys aren't going to be pleased though. Looks like Guitar Hero is the only game they can relate too. Still, the Wii is a family console now. Hardcore gamers wouldn't be seen dead playing on one.
All I can say is well done Activision. You gave us the awesome remake of BattleZone for PC all those years ago and now you give us COD4. Hats off to you...
If companies are going to released exclusives, they are not going to get the public vote. I don't have a PS3, I've got a 360. MGS4 may well have been the greatest game of all time but how would I know? CoD4 on the other hand was out on everything, hence lots of votes. It's that simple.
Metal gear is overhyped. I buy into plot in games, it makes for a far more enjoyable experience. COD4 had a great feeling of involvement with some neat shock moments. GTA was very funny and gave choices that di affect the games's story. Metal gear was an over bloated snore fest. If Kojima wants to make movies he should. But if he insists on making games, maybe he should let us play them rather than sit listening to awful dialogue and hammy acting for half an hour at a time.
Hardcore gamers wouldn't be seen dead playing on one .
By "Hardcore Gamers" do you mean idiots that think graphics are more important than gameplay?
I play a lot of TF2 and UT2004 but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy playing "Twilight Princess" or "Excite Truck" on the Wii occasionally. Besides, Hardcore Gaming has all but been killed off by EA and their identikit action games these days.
