"Half the things" Microsoft wanted to put into the New Xbox Experience were cut out, Europe's Xbox Live boss has told CVG.
Speaking in a recent interview Microsoft's Jerry Johnson said that the redesigned Xbox 360 dash isn't finished yet and detailed plans to bolster the backend with new applications and content.
"There's still a lot of stuff we want to do," Johnson told CVG in an interview. "Half the things we wanted to do [in NXE] we cut out of the service.
"One of the nice things we did was this architectural change to make things more published and driven from the service. All of a sudden we opened up the platform to say 'I don't have to wait until once or twice a year to release something onto the dashboard'.
"There's a Photo Party app that will be part of the platform," the XBL man added. "The way it will be distributed is all of a sudden you'll see a slot on the dashboard and if you don't have it you click on it and it's going to download from the service onto your application part of the dashboard. Those are the type of things we're going to start doing.
Johnson also confirmed that Xbox Live Primetime, which offers server based 'game show' style online games, will be launched in spring 2009.
"I think we're going to see more social, more content-type apps. I also think from a platform perspective we can continue to do a lot of new things," he said.

But, there's a couple of things I want above all else - being able to use my old themes, etc (which I understand you will be able to.) Also, I want less adverts. If I'm paying for a Gold account, I don't want to see as many adverts on the dashboard as there is currently.

I think MS is putting themselves in a position to deliver everything they promised. Yes... everything may not make it on the launch date, but the fact that they can push out updates whenever they want without taking down the Live servers is clearly a step in the right direction. I'm sure that everything they wanted to do, and even some things that we haven't even heard of will come to the system in controlled releases as to not overwhelm users, not to mention their servers, on day 1 of the NXE.

I think he majority of things they are putting into the update are great but my big highlight will be Primetime, if they get that right it could take off in an absolutely massive way, though the process of getting a service like that up and running is mind blowing.
Take your time MS, dont rush it out and your onto a winner with me anyway.

Anyone remember the days of the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox when we didn't get any more features than the ones they originally manufactured? i think my first post says all i need to on the subject. sonys xmb whilst easy to use is still miles behind the dashboard for features. and the machine itself is really just a glorified bluray player with the option of sticking films on the HDD. i haven't even played a game on it since i finished metal gear, though that will change tomorrow when LBP comes out. why you need to insult everyone who has a differing opinion from you is beyond me though and yes you are looking to get banned from the site as K109, sy-core, vercetti(anyone remember him) and tam did. all it takes is for you to p**s off enough people. your certainly going the right way
I think it's beter if the eventually perfect each feature and slowly work them in rather than a hug drastic update. This way its easier for people to adjust and less risk of something going t**s up.

I don't read this as saying that they've dropped a load of features they'd promised for NXE, which is what some people seem to be implying. We already knew primetime wasn't gonna be in there, so that's hardly news.
Plus, he seems to be suggesting that they're adding optional features that you can download if you wish to use them, rather than forcing everyone to update for features they don't want. Yet that's somehow turned into a negative.

Actually they didn't patent motion sensing marracas. If you have read the story you would have seen they patented the technology that could be used in controllers like that. The drawing was just a concept. It was never patented. Companies like Sony issue patents on a daily basis. The majority of which are never used.

I'm well aware of this. I thought they were quite cool in concept at least.
However i think your missing the point of my post, which was simply that the evolution of gaming hardware is a succession of periodical fresh ideas from one company being adopted and adapted by the competion to better effect.
