360 hasn't been doing too badly in Japan lately, having recently outsold PS3 for six weeks running. And The Last Remnant could be the game to give the platform that extra kick it needs in the Far East.
The Square Enix RPG has score a massive 38/40 in Famitsu magazine scoring 10, 10, 9 and 9 from its four reviewers (via NeoGAF).
Full translations of the review are yet to filter through, but from that score we're guessing they like it. And Square expects our western brains to like it too.
"Our goal with The Last Remnant was always to make a game that would be welcomed by a global audience," said producer Nobuyuki Ueda recently.
"Our fans across Europe have been very supportive towards us, and we wanted to give them the opportunity to play the game at the same time as fans in Japan. We hope they'll enjoy playing The Last Remnant as much as we have enjoyed making it," he added.
The game's due out worldwide on 360 on November 20.
I was down in the mouth when I read the headline thinking it was another far east dim and distant but pleasantly surprised by the Nov 20th release date, nice one.
Now i'll have to requisition the money printer from the Goonies in order to pay for all these quality games.
"50 dollar bill....50 dollar bill......LOOK YOU GUYS, 50 DOLLAR BILL!" - It may be too late to save the goondocks, but at least we would be able to buy all those games we want this Christmas!
hmm, i thought this was getting a PS3 release as well; that it was just Infinite Undiscovery that was a 360 exclusive?
Oh well, looking forward to this one anyway, I need a good JRPG. Eternal Sonata is boring me senseless.
OPM still lists Last Remnant for PS3 but gives "2009" as date. It'll probably come with the usual "extras" so the 360 release looks only a timed exclusive.
Given the sheer volume of other new games coming out - even on PS3 - is that such a bad thing?
Who cares? Famitsu would have probably given ET 38/40! No doubt The Last Remnant will be another yawnsome JRPG like all the others that have preceded it...

I don't recall seeing that story Jake. Also, if I was going to be pedantic, I would also point out that LBP entered the charts in at 4th place - behind FIFA 09 and Fallout 3. No surprises in the charts in all honesty.

its not very hard to outsell the 360 in japan, the ps2 does that all the time so its boring. but it maybe should have got a mention since its possibly the 1st time it outsold the Wii i think. And the irony being that alot of it was down to Grand theft auto which of course you can only get the 'full experience' on the 360

It looks like English, but all I can hear is.... Blah blah blah blah blah.
Change the record pal, we know, you hate the 360. It's getting old now.

And even then, I'm not *that* interested...
I couldn't really care less at any time about sales figures - they really mean nothing to me.
The only times these can ever really be considered interesting are:
1. You own shares in Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo. 3. You're a rabid fanboy and you need this stuff to use in forums to argue. 4. When it's the sales of a game which you'd like to see a sequel to - we all know, if they sell well - there's always another one on the way.
Sales figures in Japan mean even less to me that Europe.

That was basically my point man. Sales figures are of little interest, but if I am to read about them, I prefer them to be relevant to the UK rather than a country thousands of miles away.

Yeah - where is point 2?....I can't even remember what point 2 was. It was probably some kind of insult aimed at Chris_ace...yeah, that'll do - take that chris_ace.

youre mistaken, i love the 360 and i cant stop playing gears of war 2. i just tell it like it is as i have no bizzare brand loyality to microsoft
Famitsu gives most JRPG at least a score of 35+, so I'd take this with a pintch of salt. Also, this is a multiformat game supposed to be aimed at a western audience, so if this ends up boosting 360 in Japan, it's mission failed from Square Enix.

<looks at post history> Yeah, all you're posts aren't completely unbiased, and not one of them could be interpreted as 'Blind Loyalty towards Sony'....
And Mark, go back and read some of the recent Japan sales figure threads - there were stacks of posts on them saying 'we don't care' or words to that effect. It's irrelevant who is beating who. 9 times out of 10 the Wii is smashing both the PS3 and the 360 anyway, so why do we need to be reminded? Especially when you consider this is a different country, and continent.
People are only interested in news. ps3 outselling 360 in japan is not news. The other way around is. If ps3 would outsell the wii it would also be news. if u don't see charts u can assume everything has returned to normal.

yeah was this not the guy who considered gears 2's review score of 9.3 to be an "epic fail" for MS and that he was glad he had a PS3 to go get Resistance 2 for instead?

HHHmmmmmm so he's either a liar or a wind up w****r! thats some mighty fine police work there Marty, mighty fine.

9.2 is an epic fail, should have been 10 out of 10 and i did cancel my pre order, still get to play it though and its good.

stallowned folks
Epic Fail - A mistake of such monumental proportions that it requires its own term in order to sucessfully point out the unfathomable shortcomings of an individual or group.
9.3/10 - An A+ grade. Something chris_ace will never know the sweet taste of. In 3 years when he takes his GCSEs.
I can't fathom how 9.3/10 is the same as an 'epic fail'.
Ensabahnur, I believe him to be a wind up w****r! And a liar.

lol i weep for you marty, i really do
I was thinking exactly the same about you. Explain to me how the game 'epicly failed' and yet even you state that it's good, and that you can't stop playing it (despite not owning it - which is odd).

I don't recall seeing that story Jake. Also, if I was going to be pedantic, I would also point out that LBP entered the charts in at 4th place - behind FIFA 09 and Fallout 3. No surprises in the charts in all honesty.
It did go in at number 2 on the single platform sales, it went in at fourth place on the overall sales charts.

I wonder if any chart position is a true reflection of the sales at the moment - I mean, have the total amount of games sold gone up recently?...you'd have to think it had.
I suspect that LBPs' 4th position would have easily been a number 1 at any other time of the year.
It's selling well and it deserves to, by all accounts.

Yes very true, it certainly would have been number one in a less active part of the year, perhaps delaying it a little more would have helped, or the initial delay could’ve been avoided. Ah well, I’m sure it’ll do fine in the long run.
Oh and on the subject of Chris_ace, he’s obviously always on a wind up, and your reacting to him just encourages him, so why do you get bothered by it? Just let it float on by in a calm stream of Zen, mmmmmmmmmm. Isn’t that right Chris? Damn, ruined my Zen stream.

I'm calm - making chris_ace look like an idiot is like kicking puppies, no challenge. And I'm all about the path of least resistance.

I was also thinking it was selling well. It's seeing a significant increase in sales week on week. Some peoples epic failures are a touch un fair. I said it before and will say it again, weekly sales for console hardware and software mean very, very little.

I remember them printing that story too, Jake. I am sure of it Mark. Also, it is sad to see games that are truly innovative or ambitious do only ok at best. I've read a lot of posts on how Spore wasn't so stellar, LBP isn't "my thing", or how disappointing the demo for mirror's edge was. But then alot of you complain about a lack of originality and innovation. Myself, I find that I really really enjoy unique titles that do things a bit differently. One of my favorite console games last gen was Breakdown. Not because it had a good story, or good graphics. I enjoyed it because it was so different. Sorry for the rant, I'm tired and have forgot what I was saying :S

Full of scumbags but I don't care when the games are that cheap

Morrisons and Sainsburys seem to be the place to go for new releases - I got Fable 2 from Sainsburys for £29 and my girlfriend has got me Fallout 3 for the same price.
Seems ridiculous when you go into Game or Gamestation and they're £10 more expensive.

Well, I think I might take a jaunt to my local Sainsburys then. Though I am put off by those Jamie Oliver ads, the fat tongued, mockney t**t.
LOL! look at all you jerks getting wound up because i insulted your precious microsoft gods.
lol! you puppets
good day
All these PS3 nutjobs all use the same insults. Is there a PS3 school you have to attend before buying one, or is there a stock list of insults in the back of each manual? Though frankly, I'd be surprised if most of the culprits bother to read them. Or can read at all.
And yes, I realise this is a text based forum, but voice recognition software has come on leaps and bounds in recent years.

I know who it is, and I've met the guy. I think he was genuinely embarrassed by his involvement with Commando too, judging by his reaction when I talked to him about it.
For the record, I was working for Collectormania one year that he attended. Was sat next to the dude that played Leatherface in TCSM2.... Neither of them got any, or at least many visitors, so I kept having to check on them to see if they'd done a runner or topped themselves...

he should be embarrassed by his performance in commando, its cringeworthy. not surprised he or leatherface never got many visitors. the only good thing he's done is the biker in mad max, as for leatherface they could have just stuck anyone in there, that film sucked balls big time. infact all the texas chainsaw films are terrible.

This wasn't Gunner Hansen, from the first, this was from the utterly appalling sequel (starring Dennis Hopper no less). That's even worse... I didn't mind the remakes that much, considering that they were merely 'Gornos'. They certainly did that well. I was actually quite impressed how the prequel tied into everything. *shrug*
Goddammit Bennett was never a more appropriate line, eh?

that sequel was just weird with the old dead (kinda) guy in the wheelchair and the guy who nibbles on bits of his own brains. wasn't Hopper a bent cop in it? but they're all terrible films, even the recent ones.
Famitsu reviews cannot be trusted. I read on Game Central that they need permission from certian publishers to post reviews. And quite frankly any mag that can give Nintendogs 40/40 should of been scrapped long ago.
I'm not saying the game isnt that good just that Famitsu is not the place to go for reviews.
Who cares? Famitsu would have probably given ET 38/40! No doubt The Last Remnant will be another yawnsome JRPG like all the others that have preceded it...

Like you cannot say a bad word about anything PS3 related? Mark I thought you were in your 30's fgs, as I have said countless times before the 360 outselling the PS3 is news as it is rare, the PS3 outselling the 360 over there is not news it's a given. If you think CVG is that biased, which you have accused them of on numerous occasions then maybe it's time to move to a more neutral site eh?
Back on topic, I still have my doubts about the combat in this game although from what I have seen it does look nice.

Aye true best get as many reviews as possible ideally from players not the press.

Or it could just be that they are Japanese and have different gaming tastes to the western world that some people just can't understand...
