Uwe Boll, film director ridiculed for his work on the Dungeon Siege and BloodRayne movie among others, has been ordered to pay up $2.1 million for libelling his film distributor.
The outspoken film-maker was hauled up after bad-mouthing his film distributor, Fantastic Films International, and told by a judge to front the hefty $2.1 mill which includes $200,000 to the company's owner, Roxane Barbat, for emailing her clients criticising the company.
Barbat's lawyer, Lincoln Bandlow said: "My clients are pleased that the arbitrator's rulings, as confirmed by the court, acknowledge my clients' hard work in securing numerous distribution deals on behalf of Mr Boll and his films, and the judgment simply allows that hard work to finally be rewarded," (via Guardian).
Uwe Boll earlier this year criticised Steven Spielberg for being "sloppy" with War of the Worlds, going on to say "My performance in Postal as 'Nazi Theme Park Owner' outperforms easily Ben Kingsley in Schindler's List!"
the fact that someone as terrible as Boll even has that $2.1 million to pay up just goes to show what a sad state of affairs the world is in right now.
Isn't this the same as Amy Winehouse telling someone 'they're a bit of a state and need to lay off the booze and smack'? The fact that Uwe Bolls has the stones to bad mouth ANYONE when he is, hands down, the worst movie director since Ed Wood is astounding.
I actually feel pity for Uwe Boll. Nothing else, just pity. He's not cool, he's not funny, and he certainly isn't good at making films.
I don't pity him, the man's a genius how else can you explain the fact that he makes RELENTLESSLY terrible films and yet still gets the cash to keep churning them out (I know about the German tax breaks but still..).
The people I pity are the ones who queue up to pay to watch the sh1t that spews forth from Boll and thence onto the silver screen.
They should be suing him for misusing their name too. Fantastic Films and Uwe Boll don't really go hand in hand.
That's a good point. If he's been bad-mouthing this film company then surely they should be pleased - he's put them in the same league as Steven Spielberg.
I know Uwe personally and I think all the negative press has gone to his head (in a bad way). I've got some of these emails and thought he was going a bit far with some of his 'stronger' rants.
He's a great guy, I just think he's lost the plot a little. I hope he finds his way as I don't think anyone can function with that amount of negativity hanging over them.
I watched a copy of Postal a few weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, the film is utterly terrible but it's so terrible it's funny. Uwe Boll appears in it and takes the p**s out of himself. Some amazingly sexy women in it as well.

Give him a slap and suggest he makes some decent movies then.
Also, if he insists on using a computer game as the plot of his movie, maybe he should consider making it vaguely similar?
"THE END OF THE WORLD IS COMING, I TELL YE THE BLACK SQUIRREL HAS BEEN SEEN AS FAR A FIELD AS LUTON"
Tis true too. I live in Luton (I know, I know...) and work near Clophill, and we saw one out of our window at work one day.
Same sort of the world as I work (although I live quite a bit further away). Haven't hit any black squirrels on my way to and from Hitchin yet though.
Ah, that's nothing - I split my time between Devon and Surrey. In Surrey, we have the Surrey Puma (imaginative title, I know) and down near Devon we have the legendary Beast of Bodmin, who I suspect may be my girlfriends cat Nibbler....I've even heard of a wolverine being sighted in the South West - I seriously wouldn't want to run into one of those things!
Yet more publicity for the talentless one, yet not terribly sure where he'll find such a hefty sum of cash from. I'm betting the cinema takings & DVD sales for all his films combined wouldn't come close to paying that!

The only reason the guy uses video games as a source for film material is because you already have an installed userbase, where as your usual films have to work much harder to rake the cash in.
While he is entiltled to his opinion, it was not in his interest to berate Spielbergs work in any form.
Spielberg is the greatest director of all time( I'm talking about his technique and story-telling ability). In my opinion, he is jealous of War of the Worlds and only wishes he could have made Schindler's List.

Ah, but that's the Germany government's film grants scheme for you. Even if literally no-one went to see a German-produced movie, the investors would still make a profit.
