New Xbox Experience out!

Avatars, game installs available to the public
Microsoft has officially released the New Xbox Experience across Xbox Live worldwide.

Boot up your Xbox 360 and you should be prompted to download the update, which as long as Microsoft's server room doesn't burst into flames (we're betting money) should download onto your console fairly swiftly - ours took two minutes.

"The future of home entertainment is Xbox 360 - it's on demand, it's high definition, it's always social, it's all in one place," said Xbox VP Don Mattrick, in his hyperbole statement.

"With the New Xbox Experience we will reach the next generation of Xbox owners, 25 million and beyond. We are at a watershed moment, backed by the largest entertainment brands, with an incredible line up of entertainment unmatched in any industry."

In case you've missed it, the new dashboard adds a completely new menu interface, customisable Avatars plus the ability to install games to hard disk for faster load times. Tell us whar you think of it in the comments below.

Post here if anyone's console bricks.
I want to be in charge of all the facts before I download this later.

roll on 6pm when i get the xbox booted up and download this. just hope we don't hear any (truthfull) horror story's today. of course anything from the usual suspects will just be ignored.

how come i don't have it yet ms?fired up my xbox this morning signed into live and still nothing but my old system setup with the blades.anyone else got this problem?
splojgonxee on 19 Nov '08

splojgonxee on 19 Nov '08
Got my NXE update this morning before I left for work. It only took 2mins to download and install. Very painless.
I am very impressed with the overall look and feel of the new dashboard. It is very slick and easy to use.
Spent 15mins messing about with my Avatar, which promptly made me late for work (which I blamed on the Tube. I hope my boss does read this) Very Happy
Creating your avatar is very simple and easy. There are a lot of ways to customise the appearance and I am sure MS will introduce more options in the coming weeks and months.
Well done MS. Thank you for improving an already great console.
Sony - Time you delivered on your promises. My PS3 is looking very dusty at the moment Very Happy
morpheus9394 on 19 Nov '08
Well I can't get it because my 360 won't connect me to Live anymore. Don't worry it wasn't because of the NXE update. I went to upgrade my account from child to adult (don't ask why I had it on child) and now it won't connect me to Live.

Let me know how great it is guys. I can't wait to create my Avatar Sad

_Marty_ on 19 Nov '08
If you don't see the update yet, try performing a network connection test as this has prompted some people to receive the update.

I got NXE last friday, and I think it's an excellent piece of software.
POIZONED APPLEZ on 19 Nov '08
if your struggling to get the update automatically, clear your xbox 360 cache by pressing Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. This clears any updates, then run a game (COD5 for example) this will disconnect you from Live, then when the update is downloaded your Xbox will reset giving you the NXE!

Laughing I had a brief look this morning at 6.30 but there was nothing there. Probably due (as someone else has pointed out) to the fact that you need to boot up a game before the update kicks in. Looks like I'll be sitting on the fence for the day with you then marty. Fingers crossed no one reports a bricked console!

There are quite a few people on it already and there hasnt been any widespread issues that Ive heard of anyway, so fingers crossed.

Much eaiser to use than i thought it would be and it the avitars are really funny! I think I am going to be playing around with it for a few hours today...lol Crap it just kicked me out of live!!! You do realise this update offers a fair bit more than just avatars, right? In fact, avatars are the thing I'm least bothered about.

You ever heard the phrase 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'? Just a thought...
_Marty_ on 19 Nov '08
You should know better than that. Mogs has nothing better to do than sit and flame everything. He is what the industry refers to as a troll.

What he needs is some decent games to play.

Ive tried Marty but there is no point, unless it has a mouse and keyboard and you need to install it, our good ol' Victor Meldrew here will always look down his nose at it.

Still, the site wouldnt be the same without him, we do need at least one PC Fanboy to comabat the many Console Fanboys running amok on here.

Oh contraire! The problem is that there's too many decent games at the moment. Stupid publishers should pace their releases out better throughout the year.

I've got plenty to do actually, but I can always make time to flame M$. Wink

This site is rather handy for size installs - though they haven't checked many games yet.

Gears of War 2 is 6.7GB and Call of Duty 4 is 6.7GB also. Both took roughly 10 minutes to install.

I'll be glad to give my poor ol' 360's disc-drive a rest.

its a shame microsoft didnt have the common sense and forsight to allow you to use normal laptop harddrives instead of having to use there stupidly overpriced and tacky looking brick unit with a very limited range of hd sizes.
Actually guess it was greed rather than common sense
chris_ace on 19 Nov '08
Just downloaded and had a go for 20 mins.
Avatar is easy to create and loads of variants.
Looks crisp. Having covers for games is very cool.

Undoubted highlight so far. Being able to delete all those annoying 0 achievements from demos.

Will test out game install later (fallout 3), though having a 20GB HDD means only one at a time. Should really make a difference in RPGs, where disc accessing is more regular than other genres.

In a word. Impressed.

you can install it but you get no benefit from it.

EDIT... sorry I tell you a lie it doesn't support it but it wouldn't benefit from it anyway.

Don't get confused, installing on your HD only improves loading times, not graphics etc.

of course it was. why allow you to use anything when they can limit you to their product and reap the full cost of it back themselves. but if you shop around you usually can pick one up for half price. i got the 120gb one for 60 notes from my local Blockbuster. so i'll be going install crazy tonight Very Happy

Got mine. Had to clear the cache first.

Avatars are ok. Bit disapointed with the lack of extremes. Fat isn't obese. Short isn't midget. Everyone seems to look the same. Still, nice to have.

Installed Fable on my HDD. Nice and quick but that's all my space gone. When are they going to release a 120GB HDD at a sensible price? Like the install to HDD feature. It's definately quieter but not that quiet. The fans are still really loud, unlike my PS3 or Wii. Didn't notice it being that much quicker either but mileage is meant to vary depending on the game.

Overall an improvement. Quick, clean and elegant. Now bring me some more features please MS.

Never ever happy.

you can install it but you get no benefit from it.

I'd read that it isn't actually supported - there's Crackdown, that godawful volleyball Dead or Alive game and something called Pocket Bike Racers that are not supported. I know that Halo 3 is better played from the CD, it's supposedly considerably faster - I think it's due to the game being heavily optimised to run from the CD.

Eurogamer had also said that it can't be installed - has anyone actually tried Crackdown?

It's no biggie - I wouldn't install it anyway, I was just unsure why these would be excluded.

Well that was a childish move from Sony, if not an expected one. If this is a console war related move, just to p**s off 360 users and/or put a downer on the NXE release, then it really is a stupid move by Sony's part. Microsoft doesn’t need Sony's support to have Netflix work in any way. Whereas Sony do in fact need MS to help them when it comes to DRM and windows....

ON the topic of the NXE though, got it on Friday and I think it's a huge improvement over the blades. The only gripe that I have is the still apparent lack of album art/details when playing streaming a movie from PC. It can’t be that hard to implement!

its amazing how the likes of chris_ace and you descend on this to start talking rubbish. this is a positive thing for ms and has no bearing on sony, its not exactly a feature that will sway people to ditch the ps3 for a 360.

Ensabahnur = PS3 owner? Shock, horror... OMG.

... and which games might those be? I've played through some of LBP and got some trophies, but I've been far too busy playing FIFA '09 lately. At least five of my friends are also playing FIFA '09 on PS3, which is proving to be a hell of a lot of fun. It says a lot for how far PSN has come as a gaming platform over the past two years - exactly - that we're able to talk about playing great games like Ridge Racer 7, Warhawk, Wipeout HD, LBP and Resistance 2 (beta) with friends online...

Pretty much. 99% of my Xbox use is for games.

Being a PS3 owner, I'm sure you have no idea what that's like Smile

You're probably right, to its immense credit, I use the PS3 for far more than just playing games. It truly is a fantastic piece of kit. Smile

I don't think any of us want to know what else you use your PS3 for...
MrPirtniw on 19 Nov '08

Ensabahnur = PS3 owner? Shock, horror... OMG.

... and which games might those be? I've played through some of LBP and got some trophies, but I've been far too busy playing FIFA '09 lately. At least five of my friends are also playing FIFA '09 on PS3, which is proving to be a hell of a lot of fun. It says a lot for how far PSN has come as a gaming platform over the past two years - exactly - that we're able to talk about playing great games like Ridge Racer 7, Warhawk, Wipeout HD, LBP and Resistance 2 (beta) with friends online...
wipeout HD, LBP, Tekken, Uncharted and MGS4 are the only games i have for the PS3. anything multiplatform or with online play i'll get for the 360. as do a lot of people with both systems.

its amazing how the likes of chris_ace and you descend on this to start talking rubbish. this is a positive thing for ms and has no bearing on sony, its not exactly a feature that will sway people to ditch the ps3 for a 360.

Downloading mine now! Very Happy
You do need to load a game first to get the update going Exclamation
No you don`t you need to sign in to be told to update. Evil or Very Mad
timmytom1 on 19 Nov '08
Well it does look nicer, but there is nothing new really apart from you can install games to the HDD (which is quite quick) and you can form groups in the dashboard.
And I really hoped to see some good XNA games but we have been given "Word Soup" - thanks MS!

Gotta say, bit of a let down really - with all this hype I expected a lot more in the way of practical new features.

MrPirtniw on 19 Nov '08
yes i did notice. doesn't bother me though as i've still never downloaded a film from live. its easier, quicker and probably cheaper just to dive down the street and rent whatever film i want.

Yeah, but not on Blu-ray... Smile
seeing as my local Blockbuster rents blu-ray discs i can rent whatever's out at the time. and your right the PS3 is an amazing piece of kit. just the games for it have been slightly dissapointing. i've used mine more for watching video files than playing games recently. infact LBP is the only game i've had on in the last few weeks

It all depends on the system(s) your friends have. I dare say the PS3 is doing better in Europe than the 360 and the majority of my friends have a PS3.

The main reason people I know with a 360 are reluctant to move is either due to a personal vendetta against Sony (e.g. previously working for Sega), or they're too stubborn to admit the PS3 is the better machine.

360 owners sticking to their guns will take them a little way, but it will ultimately leave them feeling empty inside... The NXE doesn't change anything there.

ridge racer games have been poor since R4 on the PS1. i did get it when i got the PS3 but it was just the same game i'd played already and it was just so similar to RR6 on the 360.
Warhawk was ok nothing really that special.

Uncharted and MGS4 have been the only exclusives that are really worth getting a PS3 for.

I'm liking it a lot, the Avatars are a cool little feature. The game installs are pretty damn quick for the size of them I've just installed Gears 2, CoD: WaW and Fallout 3 in less than 45 minutes gonna have a little dig at the PSN here, WipeoutHD took 4 frikkin hours to download and install for me and I have 20meg Broadband. Hey does anyone know if you install a game on the hd, say Fight Night, that belongs to your mate, then once the installation is complete you put in your copy of the game (which just so happens to be reamed) will it work?? Or is the installation tied to the specific disc that it downloaded from....cos really by doing that isn't piracy, i own the game but because of; the lack of the 4th bumper in the disc tray, a dash of whisky, an intense bout and an ill timed knee jerk reaction i no longer have a playable copy!

Being a person who was never looking forward to this from the start (only thought it wouldn't be as so bad after CVGs videos), I'm still not happy. There are some improvements but otherwise I've still got a lot to complain about. I understand that it only just came out some some of the more technical glitches can be fixed in time but some of it I doubt will be sorted out.

Though funnily enough no one seems to notice the problems until I've pointed them out; I think everyone's just jumped on the hype-bandwagon it seems Rolling Eyes

stoopid, copies of a certain game from the same region are completely identical, so you should be fine, as long as your disc is in decent enough to pass the initial detection at boot.

The NXE has nicer visuals, not much in the way of new functionality - even the HDD install still requires the game DVD to be in the drive.

The MSii's are a nice to have but I don't see anyone wasting much time with them - if the Wii with more sales is anything to go by.

A fun and initially entertaining but otherwise forgettable update. Give it a week or two for everyone to get used to the new look.

If Microsoft wants to do everyone a favour with updates, they can start by redesigning the 360 into a smaller unit that doesn't get as hot, doesn't make as much noise and fixes the RRoD.

Might have been something to do with my old PC at the time due to the wipeout download taking so long but it was definately worth it apart from the eye burning thing and as for the home thing the only source for it I have is of a friend because she was excited for it to be finally coming out and I wanted to see what the fuss was all about, yes I know it sounds like heresay a friend of friend told me and, I've just seen the headline that the it will the closed Beta tommorow so it isn't far away now hopefully.
jack the vampire on 19 Nov '08
Well, it's very..... different.

A lot of effort has clearly gone into it and i feel bad for saying this for that reason but it just seems 'messy' for lack of a better word. It's not very elegant either in my opinion. It seems to suffer from a problem that's common in Microsoft OS's. Can't think of a cleaver way to access this info do stick another tier of menu/next to it. Maybe I'll get used to it as I've only really played with it for an hour.

With that in mind, can someone point out to me the option to put it back to how it was with the blades? I seem to remember Major Nelson saying it was included if you really didn't like it...

The DVD drive noise is one thing, the noise generated by the fans inside the 360 is another. Smaller components with more efficiently designed cooling would certainly help.

I personally think redesigning the machine WOULD do everyone a favour. Lets face it, quite a lot of 360 owners actually own 2 - keeping the second one as a spare for when the first inevitably gets the RRoD. That's an expensive solution which benefits Microsoft in bragging rights when it comes to sales and also helps their bottom line (these days).

I'd be genuinely surprised if quite a lot of the 360 owners on here didn't sell off their current 360 for a new 'fixed' model if it were established (and not just rumoured - again & again) that the new model really had fixed the problem.

It would almost certainly tempt a lot of people without a Wii / 360 / PS3 too... Smaller components / smaller design would also help the overall build cost and cost to consumers.

So have I and they're not (slow) at all.

Review your network settings on your PS3 (and router if you have one), especially around ensuring you have FULL dual (bi-directional) flow control enabled, that your PS3 & router are both configured for 100Mbit/s or 1Gb/s - if you have it and that your MTU size is set up to be the same as on your router - they should both be set to the standard 1500. It could also been seen as preferable to put your PS3 on a DMZ if you find it too troublesome to unblock various ports in a firewall for games, voice chat, messaging, etc - or if your router's UPnP is either non-existent or isn't working well with your PS3.

People buy a spare 360? Where are you getting that info? You get it fixed for free you know?
I'm not defending the RRoD, its really annoyin to have to treat a console as if it were a toddler, but, i think here you're letting your extreme bias show! And if everyone were to sell off their old xboxes the value for returns would decrease hugely so it wouldn't benefit anyone with an old xbox(price wise anyways), the build cost would rise also as smaller parts are inevitably more expensive!
I think it will happen eventually as with the PSOne and two, but your proposal of just scrapping every xbox now for a new, smaller, streamlined version is just silly for the amount of waste involved if nothing else.
I do think that the 3 year warrenty should be extended to the life of the product itself though, as that is a design flaw rather than the user fault

WipeoutHD took 4 frikkin hours to download and install for me and I have 20meg Broadband. It also run as quite as the PS3 now with the installs in place.

On a sidenote I thought Home was supposed to be launching today as well or am I been silly?

You do know Wipeout HD is less than 1GB in size. You seriously need to check out your internet provider if it took you 4 hours to download it.
The 360 is quieter alright with a game installed on the HD but it's still far from being as quiet as a PS3.

Also if you can show me the report that says Home was being released today I won't think you're silly..... Rolling Eyes

I have the same problem downloading PS3 demos & content - not quite the 4 hours, but half an hour for a frickin demo, then another 10 to install, when my 360 downloads AND installs in half that time.

I've got a launch 60 gigger, maybe they're slower
i have the same problems but i put it down to the time i go on to download. i think that the servers are very busy at 6pm when everyone has got in and turned it on. whenever i've tried downloading something in the morning it seems to go a lot faster.
ensabahnur on 19 Nov '08
its a shame microsoft didnt have the common sense and forsight to allow you to use normal laptop harddrives instead of having to use there stupidly overpriced and tacky looking brick unit with a very limited range of hd sizes.
Actually guess it was greed rather than common sense

But what company does that? I ain't blindly backing MS here, but before you climb inside their a*se about this you should realize no one else gives this feature either....and Ninty even alluded to this being a feature of the Wii but then gave us 512MB along with some lackluster support for SD cards!
I personally think they all should support External HDs at least

Confused where have u been, the playstation 3 does it. you can buy any 2.5" hardrive and slot it in, 320gb for Ł60

No freakin way?? Can you save your installed games and downloaded demo etc without that transfering over debacle of the Wii with SD cards?
Another reason to get a PS3 methinks. They're begining to stack up a bit now, i think its kinda like the n64 of this generation, when a quality exclusive title comes out its usually AAA, there's just usually a long wait between is all!

I'll give it a go,

I'm using a netgear router (free with sky broadband), I'm also using it wired & I don't seem to have any problems with online multiplayer.

People buy a spare 360? Where are you getting that info? You get it fixed for free you know?

I personally don't know any 360 owners who either don't own a 2nd 360 or at least have access to one (even if it's a work machine).

I'm not defending the RRoD, its really annoyin to have to treat a console as if it were a toddler, but, i think here you're letting your extreme bias show!

Not at all. Besides, treating the 360 like a toddler makes no difference to the RRoD at all. It is a design fault, not a fault with the person who owns it.

And if everyone were to sell off their old xboxes the value for returns would decrease hugely so it wouldn't benefit anyone with an old xbox(price wise anyways), the build cost would rise also as smaller parts are inevitably more expensive!

The value for... WTF? There's nothing to stop people e-baying their 360 and frankly it is probably only the hard core knowledgeable gamer who would do so anyway. Saying 'if everyone' about anything is liable to get you into trouble.

Smaller parts are not more expensive, that's the most stupid thing I've read on CVG today. Are you 16 by chance or just stoopid like your handle?

I think it will happen iventually as with the PSOne and two, but your proposal of just scrapping every xbox now for a new, smaller, streamlined version is just silly for the amount of waste involved if nothing else.

Well that's your opinion. Put it to the people on this forum...

Q) Would you - given the option of a new, quieter, smaller, sexier 360 with RRoD guaranteed to be fixed trade in / sell your 360 for the new model - Y/N?

I think the hard core gamers on this site would be more inclined to do so and I'm sure a new 'fixed' 360 would attract far more people.

I do think that the 3 year warrenty should be extended to the life of the product itself though, as that is a design flaw rather than the user fault

My experience is that the 3 yr warranty is a nonsense anyway. Sony have fixed broken PS3's outside their 1 yr warranty period and I'm sure Microsoft would do the same... I would say this is going to be the case within the life time of the product. i.e. When the next console comes out, don't expect to pull your 360 out of the loft for some old school gaming action as you might currently do your DC, Saturn, etc.

NG WNR854T here. 1Gb/s LAN. Wired. No problems.

But what money are you going to get for an old 360 on eBay if there's a newer model out garunteed to have no RRoD, if you sell off your 360 for a newer one you're coming out with a loss! And do yo think MS would launch it quietly...not a chance so it would be pretty much common knowledge to gamers and thus reduce the amount of money you'd get for selling your 360!

I'm talking about making a smaller machine with smaller components to do the same work as the bigger machine is going to cost more to build, the price for the smaller parts maybe cheaper but, the bigger parts are also cheaper than they were!

You personally don't know anyone with just one xbox? well i don't know anyone with more than one, we must cancel each other out eh? All im saying is id guess the majority of 360 owners don't have a second 360 on the reasoning that it is nonsensical to do so, you get your 360 repaired for free, its a waste of money is what im saying!

And by the life of the product i meant until a new generation xbox is released

Nobody I know has 2 360s. Also why would anyone apart from reviewers and developers have a "Work" 360?

I would not go out and purchase a new slimline 360 just for the sake of it. However I would say yes to one if my current one breaks and they offer me a choice of replacements.

Sony have quite a large faliure rate on the PS3 although it pales in comparison to the 360 faliure rate. That is probably why they are replacing broken ones after a year (in order to keep the bad publicity at bay) as they were not at all interested in replacing my PS2 when it blew up. In fact they wanted to charge me Ł100 to fix it.

Its because the parts are smaller more specialised and cost more to make.

Smaller components = less cost to produce = lower cost to the consumer.

I'd have to agree that quite a few people would come unstuck e-baying their 360, once a new one has been released... It would be prudent to sell one of the two before the new one is released - most likely to a clueless 'friend' or family member... Maybe even give it away! Laughing Don't expect me to offer advice on how to sell up, that's not my problem!

The people I know all have a 2nd 360 sitting there especially for when their main one goes RRoD, just to tie them over until that main one comes back from repair... To give you some indication, only 1 person claims to still have their original 360 in working order... One friend had his die for the 6th time just 2 weeks ago, another has had 4, whilst another just gave up with it after the 2nd one broke and bought a Wii instead.

Obviously it can be as long as 3 or 4 weeks which is quite a long time if you like your games...

If we're going by the 'my friends have....' argument, then the PS3 is a total failure, seeing as not one of my friends owns one. There are 8 Wii's and 5 360's amongst that bunch though.

So there we have it, the console war is over because of a small group of people.

Laughing Laptops have always been more expensive than desktops due to their limited quantity proprietary integrated builds on what is essentially an open platform (the PC). Moreover, we're usually talking about brand new hardware being compacted into a smaller space. You do know that Intel design laptop processors especially, right? They do not redevelop hardware that is now over 3 years old.

The reduction from a 90nm process die to say a 65nm, then to say a 45nm would reduce CPU and GPU cost drastically - particularly in the volumes that manufacturers order. Putting the two processors into one single combined unit would reduce costs and footprint even further.

Go do some reading and educate yourself.

I hate to say it WHERESMYMONKEY but the fool is correct. (One of the few things he is correct on however). Reducing the size of the chips means that less heat is given off. This in turn means that the heatsinks can be made much smaller and as these are aften one of the largest single components in a high power system (plus the fact the their placing is inflexible) means that reducing the size of them can lead to a much cheaper and smaller system. Add this to the fact that reducing the chip size means that they can fit more onto each (very expensive) silicone wafer and you have a far cheaper machine.

Smaller components = less cost to produce = lower cost to the consumer.

Putting the functionality of the 360 in a smaller box would cost more for MS to make than the current set up which would be then passed on to the customer, the reason for the RRoD is that the heat sink for it's GPU is too small and so maybe a solder or to on it cracks and there's your dead xbox!
Investing in a console for the sole purpose of using when you're other one breaks down is just silly i think.
You get to use it for maybe two weeks out of a year - two years!
That money could be spent that on getting another console - a ps3 say - and broadening your gaming horizons rather than slump in the ignorance of thinkin a console is the best just because you so happen to own it!

However i also have a question for you and the rest of the members of this board in regards to broken down systems.

How many PS2s /PSones have you had die on you.

i'm currently running on 3 psones and 4 PS2s and the current one is about to give up the ghost.

And i am still on my first 360. Had it just over a year and its been running like a dream. If you keep it in a well ventilated spot and not in cabinet surrounded by other heat sources they run alot better.

Laptops are propriatry due to their nature. To relace a dell keyboard you have to buy a new dell keyboard. You can't just go out and buy a logitech one. Only the memory, CPU and hard drive are available seperatly and even then you may have to take your laptop to pieces to replace them.

I am on my 3rd 360 although it has been going for some time now (touch wood) and I had a PS2 blow up but I never could be bothered to replace it. I was lucky on the PS1 front as I bought mine late, after they had fixed the laser problem. No other machine I have had has ever broken though. Even my Spectum 48k is still going strong.

Look man, I don't really care whether you think this or doubt that...

The point here is that if MS released a new 360 with the RRoD fixed, it would be FAR preferable to have that than the old 'broken' model. In fact, who would want an old model? Not even gamers who own it now! The only way to get rid of it would be to give it away or sell it very cheap.

I guarantee you that any new version of the XBox 360 would be cheaper than the current one. It would have to be - otherwise there would literally be no point in making it at all! Unless it had additional hardware that is - like a Blu-ray player (which is unlikely)!

On that note I'd like to add something else... Microsoft had their shot with gaming on the Dreamcast with Windows CE. My opinion of that is it stank. I like the fact that you claim people have had ‘x’ amount of 360’s die on them, and laud that as indisputable fact, and then when somebody else states they have had the same model since launch you claim that to be an urban myth.

Perhaps you should learn some manners, and stop being such a whining reprobate, all your ‘I know somebody’ diatribes are meaningless, should it be your own personal knowledge then it might hold some credence, instead second-hand reports are worthless.

I like the fact that you claim people have had ‘x’ amount of 360’s die on them, and laud that as indisputable fact, and then when somebody else states they have had the same model since launch you claim that to be an urban myth.

Perhaps you should learn some manners, and stop being such a whining reprobate, all your ‘I know somebody’ diatribes are meaningless, should it be your own personal knowledge then it might hold some credence, instead second-hand reports are worthless.

... and you are an insufferable idiot who clearly cannot read...

When I made a reference to said urban myth - it was around giving the 360 space to vent, keeping it in pristine condition, etc... It makes no difference.

If you actually bothered to read my post, you'd have seen where I had indicated that there were people I know who haven't had their original unit break down.
LordVonPS3 on 19 Nov '08
loaded about 8 of my most played, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, GTA4, Pro Evo etc and still have 50 gb left!
Load times greatly improved, well worth having a 120 gb!

well worth buying a HDD and wasting space to make it quieter? like it should already have been?! your an idiot.

people complained about ps3 installs. but it only installs a fraction.

360 has all the data already sitting in the tray, doubled over onto the HDD just to hide the noise.

cause wasting 9GB to speed up a few seconds worth of loading times, which werent exactly painful to begin with, seems an utter waste. i think thats their excuse anyway... the games on ps3 with optional installs shows it doesnt take 9GB to speed up the loading times.

Conkers make a bad read? Whoopsie!!

Though in all honesty, I didn’t completely read your post no, all it takes is mere flicker of the eyeball to see that it is the same incompetent drivel over, and over again, and why waste synapses on those?

I see you’re on another thread spouting the same useless brain sperm that you are here, for what reason I care not, it is easy to laugh at you. Note the stressing of ‘at’ you inflated ignoramus.

I've managed to install all 11 of my games onto my HDD and I still have 40GB's left O.o.

Anyway, I'm loving the NXE. Not a single problem with it.

It's like getting a new console for free lol

Ok, this post is most probably gonna anger some people and get me some negative feedback, but I'm really not that bothered, as the group of people who I'll be talking about here don't seem to care about what they say in these forums. Now, I do want to say that there some really cool people on here. People who are intelligent, funny and who have interesting things to say. However, I'm always amazed at the number of absolute imbeciles who don't seem to have an IQ above 10! (and to those of you who will read this and reply with some kind of childish insult, yes, I'm talking about you). This is what I don't understand. I know there's the whole 'freedom of speech' thing, but seriously, if you're a Sony or Nintendo fanboy, what is there to accomplish by going to a forum that you're so obviously biased against and slagging off that particular topic of conversation? "Oh, the new dashboard. It's gonna be crap" "PS3's is much better" "Haha RROD". What is the point in it all? Why do you feel the need to get into an increasingly foul mouthed slanging match with somebody just because they have a different console/game preference to you? I have a 360 and love it. I'm indiferrent to the PS3 and have no intention of ever buying one. We have a Wii, but I very rarely use it. I don't think either of them are rubbish machines, but as a result of this, I have no interest in going to the Sony or Nintendo sections to say how crap they are. You won't find me clicking on a game story that I have no interest in and leaving comments like "meh", "not buying this" or "never played it. Never will". Who in their right mind would really be affected if itchyballs2008 doesn't care for GOW2?

I know at the end of the day this is a futile moan, cos we'll never get rid of the silly people on here, but I think that the majority of posters are also fed up with reading and having to respond to childish stuff said about them and the console/game that they support. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure these things also happen in the PS3 and Wii forums, but I only visit the 360 stuff, so I only know what goes on here.

To finish, I'd like to apologize to the people who've read this and agree with any or all of the things I've said. Sorry for rambling! To the rest of you (which I'd like to think is the minority), the message is simple. If you don't like whatever console, don't read about it. If you don't like such and such game, there's no need to click on any news about it, is there? Spend your time on the things you like, not the things you don't!

Cheers all (and sorry again for such a long post)

I've been looking forward to the NXE for months. Ever since I heard about it earlier this year. So anyway, last wednesday (1 week ago) I put my 360 on, activate some downloads, and begin watching a DVD. (Firefly, incase anyones interested, lol.) Have you ever had that feeling that something bads about to happen??? I did, n damnit, I was right, long story short, TRL!!! So I go on xbox live, n the support section is down (gr8 timing or what!!!). So I phone them, get it sorted, n then the next day I get an e-mail with a broken link to the shipping label (bad luck). All in all, I've phoned them five times, n its been sent now, but I now have to wait so I'll hav to take your word for it that its good (all tho I'm sure it is)!!! p.s. as Im typin this, they've just sent me an e-mail rubbing it in!!! will the torture never end!?!?! Wow, you're right... We should all sell our consoles and games and send the money to charity...

Yeesh dude, lighten up, this is a game forum. We play games to make the misery of real life easier to ignore. Chill.

Yeah i like the new update.. Lots of games are going on my 360 120GB hd as i speak.

Leaving enough space for left4dead as well(probably the last highly rated game release of the year).
I bet Lordvonps3 can't wait to get that on ps3 :lol

Never mind, you've still got tomb raider underworld to look forward too(even if it's worse than the 360 one according to ign)Very Happy

Got mine today about 5. Quick download, I was very impressed Smile
Spent about 10 minutes making my avatar(which was surprisingly fun) and then proceeded to have a look through my friends avatars when my Xbox froze!Shocked
It hasn't happened since fortunately so I think think it was just a one time thing.
Fingers crossed anyway.

Funny that... just read the IGN review for Underworld and it doesn't say that anywhere in either review. It gave the PS3 version 0.1 lower than 360 mark because it has achievements. Interesting though that it says
However, these are no match for the two biggest technical issues for the game. The first is that there are a number of clipping and object detection issues that frequently plague the game regardless of the console you play it on.
. It goes go even to say both versions are identical. I can't see the quote saying the 360 version is better anywhere. Rolling Eyes

i really see a similarity with the new look and the xmb interface which doesnt make it feel as new as it should i guess

my 360 is completely bricked. games wont load, demos wont load, moves wont play.

i want to play on cod 5!

one of my other mates has had the exact same problem, the other person i know with an xbox is okay but they cant get the game installs to work properly.

tempted to get a ps3..i rang ms and they said its my internet adapter or my internet connection....so p**sed off. how crap.
lee429 on 19 Nov '08
voodoo341, ign didn't give it 0.1 more because of achievements(otherwise every 360 game would get 0.1 more as all games have achievements).
It mentioned that the 360 one has the more stable framerate and DLC.
It's still the console version to own.

The pc version is the best though, unless you don't like silky smooth 60FPS games compared to the 30FPS console versions(assuming you have a decent pc).
blagger on 20 Nov '08
F*ck me, just look at all the tripe that's been typed in this thread. It's meant to be about the NXE update.

LordVonPS3, yeah, okay, we get it already.

I cant say that i was overwealmed with the new update the only thing that i am interested in is the new hard drive installs, i havent noticed any speed increase in loading up of fable 2 but there is no drive noise in the background which is what i really like lol

@LordVonPen!s3

I find it odd that no-one ripped you apart for admitting that you've not been playing the PS3 exclusive that was going to change the world (LBP) much because you're playing a multi-format update from a company you consistently berate almost as often as Microsoft (Fifa '09).

That's not a great advert for your wonderful PS3 existence.

Smile
DSMaster on 20 Nov '08
@sinnotta agreed about the installs but for me NXE was a overall disapointment, wish I could turn the Avatars off, very annoying.

and....@Funky! 100% agreed What are some people doing on here posting about the PS3 sooo much? why dont you actually play games rather.Damn I have every console and a tonn of games to finish.
Farcry,Fallout,LBP,Fable,COD:WAW to name a few games that are out right now.
From what you've said you only play a few games not a whole range, its not about the console itself its about the games that are on it...cant be bothered for your child like responce so I'm off to actually play games
