MS "actively working on" NXE issues

Marketplace and crash "hiccups" under the spotlight at MS
Microsoft has acknowledged "issues" with the New Xbox Experience dashboard which launched to 14 million Xbox Live user yesterday, saying it's "actively working" on a fix.

"With an update of this magnitude, reaching more than 14 million people around the globe, we are aware some of you may be experiencing a few hiccups along the way," said MS said via official blog Major Nelson.

"The LIVE team is closely monitoring the LIVE service and Xbox.com and are aware of a few issues including what's happening with Marketplace. The team is actively working on the issues, so thanks for bearing with us," it added.

With that many people getting the update, it's hardly surprising to see "NXE brings RROD!!11" headlines today. CVG updated six 360s with no problems.

Issues seem to have been fairly minor so fair, thank god.
Be nice if they addressed the theme issue too though.

Yeah c'mon MS, sort it out!! My dash crashed three times yesterday after the update!!
Also, i think the new dash kind of sux. The whole avatar thing is extremely gay - and i don't like the new fiddly menus - please release an update allowing you to revert back to the old dash asap!!

Had a couple of problems with the Marketplace for a while last night, but overall it's been working well. I wasn't sure about changing the look (having used the blades since launch) but i must admit I like it!
The interface seems to run faster, the hard drive installation option is great, having new community games arriving constantly is going to be cool (Weapon of choice is good enough to be an XBLA title) & even though a few old themes don't suit the NXE, the advantages far outweigh the problems in my opinion & I think the Avatars are pretty fun. I can honestly say that I've had no problems so far - I even managed to download some stuff from the Marketplace.

I'm really liking it - the Avatars are OK...nothing mind-blowing, but they certainly don't bother me.

The HDD installs are an absolute Godsend though - I was so surprised by how quiet it all is without that strain on the CD drive.

Smile

considering what a grand under taking the whole thing was it went off pretty well. Of course there are going to be some teething issues. The original blade system has had a miriad of changes since it was first released to.

I like the update. Makes the machine feel fresh again.

I haven't had many problems at all. Was being a bit funny when i uninstalled bioshock. and is a bit sluggish with music from my external hdd.

Early days though people. and MS are on it.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 20 Nov '08
Had no problem here too but wish NXE was optional - I still prefer old dashboard.

You can always push the guide button to bring up the old blades (in mini form anyway). Cool
steve_2003 on 20 Nov '08
I'm liking the new dash and the only problems I've experienced so far is the slowdown on the friends part. Only happens when I've viewed a friend's profile etc. The only issue i have now is my rather weak 20gig hard drive. Still, christmas is just around the corner.
niksalt on 20 Nov '08
It's the hd installs that make if for me.

Banjo nuts and bolts definitely is faster off hd and the lack of noise is a welcome bonus.

The menu's are ok as well, not overly bothered about the avatars.
blagger on 20 Nov '08
Has anyone worked out if you can stop people appearing in the friends section that aren't on your friends lists?

If you have a few friends in different parties it takes ages to load up all the users they are playing with. Thats what tends to crash my 360.

I don't care about people that aren't on my friends list, I would prefer it not to show them.
SoulChimera on 20 Nov '08
Id give it a fews days to calm down, 15 million 100 meg downloads and all the users in parties chatting, then multiple attempts to down load stuff from marketplace proably just put a lot of striain on the system, i reckon in a few days all will be right in NXE land

yesterday when i started fallout 3 on my pc it said i had to accepted the T and C's of live as they have changed but when i clicked the button it just loaded a blank web page.

after i up dated my xbox i accepted the terms and then when i logged back i to live on my pc it was fine
obscured021 on 20 Nov '08
i didn't experience any problems really......i mostly use the 360 for games.....i did have a little browse around the new dash and found errors, be i ain't bother about it........as long as i can still play GOW, i'm ok

I certainly agree with one the points raised in the previous article about things we love and hate about NXE. The menu system has become a bit convoluted and inconsistently presented. Why for example is it only the new arrivals and most popular items that use the "front cover" style menus and the rest of the stuff has been relegated to a basic blue boxed list?

The avatars are incredibly limited, and given that there are 14 million live users its inevitable that my avatar will look identical in every way to about 250,000 others. Why no sliders to adjust everything? The models aren't that complex so it wouldn't be hard to provide more user customisation surely? Maybe a simple art package to draw logos onto t-shirts or tattoos onto arms, legs etc would've been good too? Even if they had such a thing, I doubt a list of generic tattoos would please someone whose spent Ł400 on a bespoke piece who wanted an approximtation of it on their avatar because it wouldn't look like them without it on their forearm.

The time limit on Community Games is pathetic. Give us proper trials of a appropriately sized section of the game!! The first time I booted up Weapon of Choice, the game timed out before I'd even decided on a character! Daft and sad too, because the Community Games area has some fantastic games on there (and cheap too; 200 points for some of them!). If only I had adequate time to evaluate them properly!

The HDD install option - so long as it doesn't become a mandatory feature in future - is a brilliant addition. Fallout 3 installed in about 5 or 6 minutes, and the resulting lack of noise from the disc drive and fan (which quietens down a lot when you're running DVDs or stuff from the HDD) is an absolute godsend and may have saved me from getting permanent hearing loss.

Overall, a big improvement, but I hope that there's the odd improvement beyond simply fixing bugs.

Why is everyone sold by HDD installs and that, seriously am i only one who only cares about the 8 person private chat.

No more do you have to message people saying your in private chat they can see if your partys ful and if not just join and start talking, its great.

i have experienced freezing issues when going off someones profile but it turns out it doesnt actually freeze just stops momenterially for likde 10 - 15 seconds give or take.

And something else i may need to test but if anyone plays Final Fantasy XI it says it needs 6.6gb to install yet its already installed on your hardrive, my game seemed a lot quieter when i went on earlier but i might have to see if the disc is spinning later, if it isnt thats something to be sorted out.

also anyone else think the HDD installs are just a ploy to get more people to buy really big hard drives, being as it Micro$oft its very beleivable.
shercliffIX on 20 Nov '08
Mine froze twice on the friends list but if you just let it sit for "awhile" it will catch up and unfreeze.

no this is far worse than that

How so? I've not heard of one 'bricked' console as a result of this update. A few niggles or freezes, but certainly nothing major.
Could it be that it's 'far worse' because this is Microsoft and the 360, whereas the other was Sony and the PS3, and they can do no wrong in your eyes?
_Marty_ on 20 Nov '08
Crying or Very sad i dont know if last nights update was to blame but my 360 got the dreaded rrod 3 hours later but i will give microsoft there dew they are on the ball and will fix it straight away
mw123 on 20 Nov '08
I wont be installing any games to the HD- I find the noise my xbox makes (like a person being thrown into a woodchipper) strangely comforting... Laughing

The overal look I like a lot more. Been having an issue with screen freezes after quitting out of my friends tab using the B button(happens about 70% of the time), but it dosn't happen if I use the guide and go back to the dashboard that way. Called MS last night and they wen't through the usual steps(clear cache etc), but to no avail. I guessed a patch/fix would be out soon because there was bound to be a few issues going by the scope of the update, so hopefully it will clear it up.
sonic_uk on 20 Nov '08
This bricked my friends 360 Evil or Very Mad

These bloody firmware updates are getting ridiculous, it was only a few months ago that we had the same fiasco with the PS3 and now the 360 has its big firmware update and again problems with console Rolling Eyes

Sure the addition feature added by both are welcomed but do they really have to come at the cost of a handful of console. I dread console updates because there is a change of breaking your console, but at least the 360 has a lot less frequent updates than the PS3 does.

I dont know what people problems with the new look are though, its miles better than the horrible blades.
