Activision's not-so-secret DJ Hero game has seemingly been name-dropped yet again, and dated for release in Summer 2009.
According to a supposed e-mail newsletter from superstar DJ, Tiesto, the dutch artist - who's often referred to as the biggest DJ in the world - will provide tracks especially for the unannounced Guitar Hero spin-off.
"We are proud to announce that Tiësto has teamed up with the game developer Activision and their latest project DJ Hero," reads the newsletter.
Activision will release a special Tiesto edition of DJ Hero - similar to Aerosmith and Metallica versions of Guitar Hero - which will contain classic Tiesto productions "as well as new music composed especially for the game."
Tijs 'Tiesto' Verwest said of the deal: "I am very excited about this! I think this is a great way to introduce people into Djing. Maybe they realize it's not as easy as they think. I am sure this brings new fans to the scene, dance music is not far from hip-hop for example. Hopefully the music I have composed appeals to all kinds of fans!"
We're still waiting for confirmation of the news from Activision UK.
DJ Hero first surfaced in a trademark earlier this year, and was later backed up by an accidental confirmation from the Guitar Hero: World Tour team.
It's said to utilise a new turntable-style controller and a setup that has coloured icons scrolling around a virtual on-screen record.
Are you excited about the prospect of hitting the plastic decks? Let us know below.
I know of one person who may possibly have been slightly interested in this, if they had a console. I don't think this will be as popular as other music games.
Wait a sec. Did he just say: "Maybe they realize it's not as easy as they think"? I always thought the fun of the Guitar Hero games was making something that seemed hard into something easy. Now they want a game that makes something looking easy into something hard?
this would excite me more than than any of the guitar hero/rockband crap. super star dj playing to a virtual crowd off their t**s on virutal extasy, holding one earphone to your head, looking like a complete wacko. o yea thats the stuff!!
unlike pressing plastic buttons on cue, matching and synching beats then fading an EQ'ing them in requires some skill. god knows how automated this will be, but the real thing is ten times more fun.
atomix or virtual dj for the pc will give you a better understanding of how it works. and you can use all your mp3 - no monopolising rip offs.
you can even get hardware for it so you dont need to control it with a mouse.
doesnt beat real turntables and serato but its a fraction of the price.

ever since dj tiesto dropped the humble dj from his name and tried to be a brand name in hiself i.e. "Tiesto", his stuff has went commercial.
his last good tune was 'carpe noctum' which translates into something like 'seize the night' (as opposed to carpe diem - seize the day)
dark, delicious and instrumental. thats what i prefer, a far cry from some of his vocal 'radio friendly' pish.
dont know if id say tiesto has chav followers (cause they dont have a clue about electronica) but due to him selling out, hes the most known big dj. and chavs try to pin themselves to that cause hes percieved as cool. (or used to be!)
doesnt beat paul van dyk. a true humble yet superstar dj. cream had booked tiesto and pvd at a new years gig, and they wanted them to go back to back, but tiesto threw his toys out the pram and refused. cause hes get shown up. like, every second tune would be good!
Tiesto has now redefinted the word, "Sell Out". Wow...what an absolute embarassment and disgrace to this art of music.
I've been a House & Trance DJ for 14 yrs. (VINYL ONLY...yeah I said Vinyl!) and never in my life have I been more ashamed to hear something like this. CD Turntables, tolerable. Computer mixing programs, less tolerable but meant for a TRUE beginner DJ to get a feel for things. But this DJ Hero...pathetic.
Push-button/Mouse-clicking & plastic Turntable DJ UNITE!
He's become an ambassador for the music, and who else in the EDM scene could you possibly suggest to front a Guitar Hero spin-off? DJ Hero: Armin Van Buuren doesn’t have a ring to it…
If he's getting more people into house and trance by “selling out”, then great.
I really hope this doesn't turn into a trance fest. There are many different types of electronic music other than house or trance and only a fraction of it is what you would ignorantly call 'chavtastic'.
There are some lesser known artists like Bonabo and Squarepusher who really should appear on this.
Personally speaking, I'd love to see some DJ shadow on this.
I've also been djing for about 10 years now and there's no way this wil have the same appeal as the other titles, djing alot of the time isn't about continous key or button presses unless your scratching beat juggling type (im not). Pushing fake buttons on your probably oversized plactic turntable is an awful idea. Best to save up and get a cheap set of decks yourself if your really keen, you can even get free mixing programs for your pc like someone suggested.
Andy, I totally see what you're saying...yes, he's done a LOT for the EDM community with various charity events, etc. But, my main complaint is that the quality of EDM music has already gone to $#!T, especially trance and the horrible commercialization of it. Tiesto & DJ Hero are just going to dumb it down even further.
To answer your question, though...I wouldn't have suggested ANY DJ because I wouldn't have made this kind of game in the first place. Business-wise, smart. But, I have standards.
See, the ONLY way I'd see ANY kind of use for this would be as an additional promotional tool for beginning producers. Future DLC perhaps...
Yes SVD, I couldn't agree more...people don't have the BALLS to do the epic & aggressive trance from the days of old...but, hopefully, I'll change that. >
Not a bad concept but I'd rather wait and see how it works because it doesn't sound too promising right now. Though in the meantime I'm gonna stick to my PC emulations
I know gamer's seem to be metal heads most of the time (and I am as well), but there's nothing wrong with euphoria. And to those who just seem to be complaining about trance then go and listen to more 'aggresive' forms of euphoria like aggrotech, EBM, rave, gothic industrial rave and possibly even hardcore euphoria and UK hardcore if they're good enough for you.
Edit: At first after reading a couple of the comments I just got the impression that everyone here was against trance etc. but good to see there are at least some more euphoria fans amongst us.
Thanks for mentioning atomix and virtual dj svd_grasshopper, will look into those two (haven't heard of them before), and thanks Crow555 for mentioning some more artists probably worth looking into.
I know its not exactly the same but this is basically beatmania. Que plastic turn tables and dodgey songs.
I had an idea the other day, Life hero its free and you just going round being a good chap. New content every day plus 6 billion multiplayer.
Brilliant - that had me in stitches lol
I might be interested in this, cuz I am a DJ anyway and it may be fun (if done properly) and has proper beats on it and not full of just dance stuff - Hip Hop is a must
DJ'ing in the 'mixing records together' sense is very easy, stupidly easy, you can even get software that'll do it for you automaticly, but mixing is not what DJ'ing is about (probably more about sucking promoters c**ks, being connected to big heads, making your own records etc). I just hope you can scratch with the device maybe even beat juggle, cause those things are a little more advanced and would be worthy of making a game of.

Conkers was right then......
Yup, but does anyone really leave this site permanently? Whether forcibly ejected or otherwise.
If this forum is anything to go by, it would appear that there are more dj's than club goers in this world.
I love the fact that people are complaining about Tiesto fronting this spin-off, and not even remembering that the reason that Tiesto will be doing this is because Activision want to actually sell some of the DJ hero games. If you're joe average, who are you more likely to have heard of? Tiesto or DJ Obscure?
Calling someone a sell-out because they've become successful is just jealousy. If I was to make it in whatever and get offered to have my own game which entailed doing what I loved doing, then I'd ask where to sign the dotted line.
And if any of the 50 apparent Dj's on this forum got the chance to "sell out", they would.
I personally don't think I'll get this game, but it'll sell, mainly to school kids who can't afford the equipment to be fair. However if it's implemented brilliantly I can see it shifting plenty.
I'm getting a bit p**sed off that this is dragging up all kinds of narrow-mindedness about DJing being for chavs.
First off, you're wrong. "Chavs" generally listen to no music at all (unless they've robbed a stereo) and if that's the case it's R&B. You people seem to believe that chavs are the people who go to clubs that play dance music. No. Chavs are the turds who hang around corner shops with bottles of cider, with their hoods up and their fake Adidas trousers tucked into their football boots. The people you think are chavs simply have a different taste in music.
To say that dance music and mixing is limited to that minority is a pathetic misunderstanding. What about the Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, Hadouken, Enter Shikari or one of my favourite dance acts, Lemon Jelly? They all use decks and are extremely talented. Half the music you rock fanboys listen to are mixed in some way too, but you somehow seem to forget that.
And before any abusive comments come swinging my way about me being a chav, my favourite type of music is stuff like Dredg, Brand New, Alexisonfire, Shai Hulud et al. Christ, only the other week I went to see Finch for about the 10th time. I just hate people with blinkered views of the world who think they're right.
Sorry for the rant, especially for the open-minded people on this site. But there are several people who have commented on this thread that really need to be put in their place.

Don't think I've seen you around before but I like you. You seem to be more in tune with the world than most people on this forum but one thing I've learnt is that until other people get with it you just have to play along until they do. Shame, I know

Yeah been around for a while - might be because I'm over on the 360 stuff mostly?
I tend to just gloss over people's ignorance, but every now and then really need to have a moan about it. Clearly these people haven't experienced life outside their cosy little bubbles.
