For those that missed it, Rise of the Argonauts promises to immerse players "in a gladiatorial adventure set in a wondrously imagined vision of ancient Greece.
"Taking the role of Jason, a hero and expert warrior, players will battle alongside Hercules, Achilles, Atalanta and other Argonauts as they engage in brutal combat against formidable beasts and enemies, in a vast world alive with fickle gods, jaw-dropping panoramas, deep exploration and epic quests."
The game's recently slipped to "early-2009" for PC, PS3 and 360, according to publisher Codies, although the trailer still has it down for a "Winter 2008" release.
Paradoxically I agree with both of the two first posters. The video looks good and yet it also looks like a Diablo-esque kill, kill, kill and then kill some more game. That can be entertaining and I certainly enjoyed Diablo I & II at the time. However, 10+ years on and my tastes have developed further. I like how this game looks and I dearly hope it will manage to contain poignant and immersive plot lines, quests, background stories, etc. If not then I'm unsure as to how much the end product will appeal to me.
The setting is what appealed to me. I love all the Greek myths, and have done for years. But from what I've seen, this is just Dynasty Warriors or something, re-skinned. Obviously we've not been given much of a storyline yet, but to get all of those gods on board it sounds like they're going to be crowbar-ing them into the game something crazy.
I think it might have worked better as an action-RPG than a swarming button masher. I wait to be proved wrong.
I think it does have rpg elements to it, i certainly hope it's more than just another button basher. I remain optimistic that it has greater depth than Dynasty Warriors etc.
