Nintendo switched logos "two years" ago

Calm down the internet
News doing the rounds this morning of Nintendo having dropped its classic red logo are "two years late" according to Nintendo.

Nintendo has been using the grey logo following the launch of Wii - in line with the console's new image - as you may have noticed if you read the Official Nintendo Magazine, which has been using the grey logo for around 18 issues.

News broke this morning that the red logo had been dropped following a request from NOE that publications only use the grey logo.

Nintendo UK has cleared thing up though, saying the red logo was simply set aside, and that the grey logo is being used "for the time being". Maybe nobody noticed?

"We are using grey but the racetrack logo can be represented in a number of different colours. You'll often see it in black, white, silver or grey," it said.

You may have noticed that the DS packaging features a black logo, the Wii boxes have the grey one. "This has been the case on both hardware formats since their releases," added Nintendo.

So we might see the red logo make a return when the circumstances are right. For now though, it's the clean, grey, iPod look for Nintendo.

Should it not be:

"Nintendo switched logos "two years" too late"

..instead of ..

Nintendo switched logos "two years" ago

.. as that would fit the tone of the story better.

I was expecting something about Nintendo secretly changing their logo in 2006 with no one noticing...
csdaveuk on 26 Nov '08
Erm... phew...?

...is that how I'm supposed to respond?
Mappman on 26 Nov '08
I didn't realise the colour formed part of the logo to be honest - I've seen the Ninty logo in all sorts of colours, and it still remained Nintendo. *shrug*

I didn't realise the colour mattered either!
I didn't notice the change, but then tbh I didn't really look for it.. or care too much!

Did it turn red to grey?
adgr19 on 26 Nov '08
Anyone feeling compelled to comment on it being a "slow news day" must be having a pretty slow day themselves.

And before you ask, yes, I am too Smile

I'm going to ditch this website, half of the stories published are incorrect. If this is news then you'll be glad to hear that I took a s**t earlier this morning...

Righto.

Cheerio then.
It's not news like 'A plane just crashed into the World Trade Centre', but it's vaguely to do with gaming, and we've all learnt that the Nintendo logo is usually red, but is grey for this generation, when most of us had no idea that the colour mattered.
Thought provoking, eh? Smile

I noticed, I just didn't care. Red or grey, what difference does it make?

I think it's quite funny that they've ditched the coloured logo (no doubt in favour of a seriouscat image, but the games are colourful. Yet Sony and MS have green and blue on their boxes but it's the games themselves that are a bit grey. See what they did there?

Funny... now excuse me while I fix my sides.
Dajmin on 26 Nov '08
They should've made it brown, to reflect Nintendo's change from being the (red) lifeblood of the industry to the poo stain on the industry.

That's right, I went there. Laughing

That's fantastic news!

Why is Mario and Sonic still red on the front then?
greatno on 26 Nov '08
this is just a small news story and already the pessimists are finding a way to whine about nintendo sucking. Mario and zelda teams are already working. Pikmin is being made. So is sonic unleashed and previews say that it will probably be up there with the classic sonic games. We have already had a proper mario and zelda game already along with mario kart, metroid prime, smash bros, etc. AND MANY MORE. Sorry I wrote so much, but I'm just trying to say, THEY HAVENT ABANDONED THE HARDCORE MARKET.
phew
Ilikewariosmoust on 27 Nov '08
Smash Bros has a white logo.

Metroid has a red logo.

Hmmm...I hope my Wii doesn't spontaneously combust, like a hater when he see's a Nintendo article Rolling Eyes .
