Cryptic Studios has told us that it is "looking at developing games on the PlayStation 3", although it wouldn't confirm whether or not its in development titles will be heading to Sony's console.
The independent developer behind City of Heroes and City of Villains recently put out an advert for a PS3 programmer, sparking reports it could take its Star Trek Online and Champions Online MMOs to PS3.
"Cryptic is dedicated to creating amazing cross-platform MMO game play," the company said in a statement issued to CVG.
"At this time we are looking at developing games on the PlayStation 3 but have no announcements regarding specific titles that might be in development for the platform."
Although a release date has yet to be set, Cryptic will be beaming Star Trek onto "PC/Console", while Champions, which has been pencilled in for a spring 2009 release, is definitely headed to PC and 360.
As we've seen no MMO on either the PS3 or Xbox360, I'm more intrigued to know HOW it will work, if at all. Especially the pricing structure on the 360 (as we already pay to play online). Will we EVER see a true console MMO?
And anyone that says Animal Crossing needs to whacked across the nose with a newspaper.

I'd love to know how a Star Trek MMO will work. Everyone will want to be Captain of the Enterprise.

_Marty_, Xbox 360 has a few MMO's already (FFXI, Phantasy Star) and the pricing structure is such that you pay an online fee for the MMO BUT you don't have to have xbox live gold (You can run it on silver)

I know its not much of an MMO but Final Fantasy XI has been available on the 360 for ages.

Thanks for the info, I had a feeling that would be the case - and I can see why they've not really 'taken off' in that case too. Are Gold members seriously expected to pay twice? Screw that.
As for there being MMOs on the 360 already, I really had no idea. I've heard of loads that are coming, but didn't know of any that were around.
That said, if PSO works much the same as it did on the Dreamcast then, while good, I'm not sure I'd consider it an MMO (more like a 4 player game with a multiplayer lobby).
