Monolith's moody FPS sequel, F.E.A.R: Project Origin, has become the latest game to be banned in Australia.
There are no details as to exactly why on the OFLC's site, but gamers down under won't be happy considering the Board's banning spree recently, which put big black marks over Fallout 3, Dark Sector and Silent Hill Homecoming, among others.
We've contacted Warner Bros. Interactive on the matter and are currently awaiting a response, but if you live down under you might want to cross your fingers that Monilith can sort out a work-around. Or just get your order in with the importers.
There are black squirrels in Hitchin! It's the end of the world, I tell ya!
So long as they don't get to york we'll be fine.
There lies the badger of justice.
were this to happen the animals of the woodland would wreak a bloody vengence upon mankind.
ahem..clears throat..
People complain about the BBFC, at least they're not this bad. Games have pretty much remained unscathed from a repeat of the video nasty campain in the 80s.
You've got to take the rough with the smooth. It's true that this game has been banned, but Australia also ban blood-sucking immigrants with nothing to offer but their dependence on benefits. Personally I think they're better off.
your a credit to our nation sir. So will you be attending the BNP rally this afternoon.
Come on immigrants get a rough f**king ride for no proper reason. They're just an eaasy target for bigeots because they've only just got to the country and many of them can't speak the language very well.
There's more British ex pats clogging up other parts ogf the world than coming to Britain and those lazy f**ks just go thier to retire.
Most Britiah immigrants come over here and work crappy jobs that no good supposed hard working englishman wants to do because they can't get anything better, and you know what most of them love this country. Its a thousand times better than the war torn s**tholes they spent god knows how long trying to flee from.
And what do we do. Just f**king complain. You know why this country has no national pride anymore. Because we don't f**king deserve it.

Bloody hell, who took the jam out of your doughnut?! Not once in my post did I say I had an issue with all immigrants, did I? If you want my full opinion (which I didn't feel was necessary, but there you go):
I am just envious of the Australian immigration procedure that involves any potential immigrant being screened to see whether they would actually bring anything to the country - labour, expertise etc. That way you can guarantee they won't be a drain on the economy.
I have no problem with those that come here, work hard and build up a good life for themselves.
I do have an issue with those that come over here and cause trouble (I have seen it and had friends experience it first hand - asking for phones and wallets etc.). We have enough English people like this to deal with, we don't need any more. Ramming houses full either with all the noise and smell that goes along with it too doesn't help. Again, I know this isn't all of them but why can't we have some sort of screening to prevent these ones coming in.
What I also have a problem with is those that come over here for a better life, but then just bail out back home when things take a turn for the worse. Turncoat scum.
So in short you do have a problem with immigrants. Your original post and subsiquent responce to my rash response have pretty much shown that.
doesn't matter what country you go to in the world there will be people ready to steal your s**t and f**k you up.
Sad fact of life.
That is true, but we don't need any more than we already have. I don't have a problem with immigrants, I have a problem with the government letting just anybody in.
We have a Polish couple living next door who are perfectly pleasant neighbours - no issue with them whatsoever. They both work, they're both polite. We used to have some Ukranians living next door - 6 of them in a house that now occupies 2. One of them worked, the others spent their afternoons sitting on car seats in the back garden smoking, shouting and barbecuing the cheapest meat they could find on what looked to me like a car radiator grille with a bonfire under it. They all had cars parked on the road with no tax and I'm fairly certain they had no insurance either.
What possible good to the country are the latter doing? Like I keep saying, we have enough people like this already, why should we have to put up with more?

We should throw them a nice beach party with plenty of beer and once they have drunk them self's into a coma break out the clubs and dispatch them like seal pups.

Oh and add the pikey's to the invite list aswell.
And I'm the one who was accused of being a member of the BNP
Got to say, I favour with altitude2k on this one. I've seen the types of immigrants he's talking about, and the government is beginning to see they made a mistake with their 'open door policy', as shown with most parties jumping on the immigration band wagon.
And please, WHERESMYMONKEY, don't try saying all the immigrants take is the crappy jobs no one wants - that's bull. There's factories where I live where it's basically ALL immigrant workers, and no local, British people can get in! I used to work at a place where they had a Polish girl work in the office, and she was completely incompetent. But no one wanted to say anything, as they didn't want to look discriminatory.
That's the problem with this country though; people are far too scared to speak up for fear of looking like a bigot, as you say.
This country has no pride - I agree there - it's being stomped out so we can just accept things we don't like and not argue.
And as for British people retiring abroad - at least they spend their money in whatever country they're residing in, instead of shipping it all back home. People say that immigration helps the economy? How can sending British money abroad help the British economy?
I think I'll stop here before any more 'BNP' labels get thrown my way. I'll just give my kudos to altitude2k for at least having an opinion and voicing it, despite knowing the kind of backlash he'd get from the sheep.
I'm an immigrant in the country I currently work and live in, and I agree with altitude2k. I've lived, studied and worked variously on three continents. There a people I like. There are people I'm polite towards yet know little about and that's ok too. There are people I'm not comfortable with. Immigrants, like just about any group of people, have their pros and cons. There is no bigotry nor racism in asking for a rational screening process. It's similar to a job interview except on a national scale as opposed to in a company office. Would any of us hire someone right off the street without at least some sort of interview if it were at all possible? Prudence would indicate that we would not. Establishing an immigrant interview/screening process is possible and I think it should be done.
Yes, there are many people who live under atrocious conditions and whom I would like to see reach a higher minimum standard. I'm even prepared to accept whichever government I support spending part of the taxes I pay towards projects (if they are well thought out and executed so as to have some effectiveness as opposed to many of the foreign aid projects I've seen first hand in an African nation succumb to incompetence, nepotism and corruption,) that may improve the lot in life for foreign people (I'm currently a foreigner myself where I reside). Yet not all problems may be yours, mine nor anyone elses to solve other than the people involved and at other times it seems all problems are shared equally as we are all interconnected on some level be it great or small. Yet that is a topic for another discussion.
Trying to be forthcoming, understanding and tolerant is one thing. Blank cheque acceptance of anything and everything is another. None of us do that with everything in life and if someone claims that they do then they are misinformed and/or lying as a relatively brief in-depth analysis of anyone's life, motives and actions should be able to quite quickly establish behavioural patterns which are heavily influenced by physical reality (tangible constraints & opportunities), environment/upbringing which in turn leads to moral compass development (or lack thereof)...And possibly moral values derived not from the immediate family nucleus nor society - whether external/internal moral values are expressions of universal truth is an intriquing debate. These factors and others constantly colour our perceptions of ourselves, others and the world around us thus we all have boundaries of some sort. Even not having any boundaries is a boundary of a sort (and I suspect people who fall in this category may score quite highly on the advanced psychosis scale).
Back on topic, I don't know what the rationale is for the Australian banning of F.E.A.R. 2. Perhaps there are reasonable grounds for it but personally it seems a bit silly to me.

It's funny but I thought exactly the same thing. And I'm glad that some other people agree with me too. I'm not a racist, and I have no issue with immigrants as a whole. I just think we need to be able to deal with our own troublemakers/layabouts before we have to take care of everyone else's.
And it's also a very good point about these people sending money back home from our economy. That can't be doing us much good either, can it?

Well, what a person - immigrant or otherwise - decides to spend their own money on (as long as it's not on illegal goods/services, etc.) is their own business. Some like to buy cars, some like to buy electronic gadgets, some like to go to bars, others like to save, etc. As long as tax has been paid on the money earned then the society in question may actually stand to gain more from it than it loses in terms of capital leaving the country. If income tax is paid then the state benefits and through the state the general population. Furthermore, regardless of how much or little money an immigrant may decide to send to another country there are still certain basic needs (i.e. food, shelter, transportation, etc.) that he/she will need and that means that services in those sectors will receive some of that person's money as well. Also here will the state benefit in the form of VAT, so from an economic perspective it may not be all doom and gloom.
What would probably be far more damaging is to give massive tax cuts to extremely wealthy individuals and companies in the hopes that they will re-invest that same capital in the nation. Unless specific stipulations and conditions are placed on such tax cuts (e.g. stating that a certain percentage has to be spent on national related ventures,) then there is no guarantee the additional windfall in capital won't just be hamstered away in a bank account in the Cayman Islands or invested in foreign capital markets which may do little to improve the local national market (it might benefit indirectly through international orders that could end up in the nation's market, yet it could also end up directly competing with it).
Well as an Australian, I'm very disappointed with the OFLC. The reason so many games get banned over here is because our highest classification is MA15+. So any game not acceptable for a 16y/o is automatically abolished, and the only way for it to be released is for the developers to make alterations to the Australian version. This happened with GTA4 and Fallout 3.
Right now, there are many Aussie gamers, like myself, pushing the OFLC for an adult rating in videogames.
If anyone listens to 1UP Yours (a podcast on 1UP.com), you'll know that they make a good point in saying that the only way this is ever going to stop is in another 30+ years, when everyone who didn't grow up with videogames (and therefore doesn't understand them) is either not working for a classification board anymore, or DEAD.
Until then, looks like us Aussies will have to cope without Fear 2 :tear:
