Online US retailer Gamestop has got a listing for a boxed version of Grand Theft Auto IV: Lost & Damned, which, according to the site, will be released on February 17 for $19.99 (about 13 quid).
As previously reported (hit the link for screens) the downloadable episode, which can only be played on Xbox 360 version of the game, will be called 'The Lost and Damned' and put players in control of a new character, Johnny Klebitz.
Rockstar's Sam Houser is looking forward to it as much as you are. "Making these episodes has enabled us to expand the narrative and the experience of interacting with a game world in really innovative ways. We hope fans of the game enjoy the new way of experiencing life in Liberty City contained in this first episode."
We've contacted Rockstar for a 'no comment' and will update you accordingly. In the meantime let us know if you'd prefer it in a box. Important stuff this.
It's still technically not a "boxed copy". You just get a card with a code allowing you to download it, which happens to be in a box.
Pretty pointless if you ask me. What's the point in buying this when you can cut out the middle man and just buy it directly off Live?
Depends if it'll avoid me having to install it to my hdd.
No. It's not a disc. It's a card with a download code. You still get the same piece of content from the same source (Live), you've just paid for it in a more roundabout way.
I think its mainly a service for people that don't have creit cards.
Hmm, yeah I see the logic there, although those people are already catered for because not 3 shelves away they can buy retail boxed MSpoints cards.
By the way folks, anyone wanting quick access to Live subs and points cards who doesn't have a credit card should check out www.gamepointsnow.com
They use google checkout, and email you the codes instantly. I've been using them for over six months with no problems at all. Prices are pretty good too.
- For people that don't have credit cards - For people that don't like to put their credit card details into their Live account - For people who want to give this as a gift - For retailers who want to actually have something to sell
On the whole, I'm with you guys - pretty pointless. But there are a few reasons why this could exist. Still, why only for GTA IV and not ever bit of DLC available?

I suppose it's good advertising... get a bit of chatter in the forums, have a product sitting on the shelves. It all generates interest and that can't be bad.

What he said. Retail presence. They need to get "the word out" to as many people as possible, GTA is that kind of IP.
Surely this will have the standard shipping and retail markup making it more expensive than from XBLM? Unless the latter is seriously overpriced, which wouldn't surprise me.
Not everyone will be aware of the DLC. Not everyone who plays games keep up to date with news, they just buy what is in the shops, and if you see gta in the shops you buy it whereas if it were only online you may not come across it or be tempted.
Although it probably is just a card wouldn't it be a good idea to release it on a disc aswell? Then people without live could get it aswell. Its only an expansion pack anyway so whats the problem with releasing it on a disc?

I can't see why not - Shivering Isles was released on disc. It'd be a great idea for GTA DLC to be released in the same way - it's potentially a huge seller, so they really need to get it out to as many people as possible.

I'll tell you why not. I have the GotY edition of Oblivion, so Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine came on a seperate disc. That disc I leant to at least 5 other people so they got those two expansions for nothing...

I didn't realise they were on a seperate disc on the GOTY edition (I've never actually played Oblivion). I guess the same thing would be true for the seperate SI discs?
I'm not too fussed whether I download it on Live or buy it seperately (be it on card or disc) - I'm pretty much 100% sure that I'll be picking it up though...sounds brilliant.
