Lego Harry Potter in development?

Warner's next Lego title will focus on the boy wizard, sources tell CVG
First it was Star Wars (the good ones AND the bad ones), then came Indiana Jones followed most recently by Batman. But the next big property to be reborn in little plastic blocks will be Harry Potter, CVG has learnt.

Putting on our detective hats we're going to take a guess that Warner will handle publishing honours even though EA has the rights to do the PC and console movie tie-ins. Warner published Lego Batman too, it's worth noting.

We've got no solid details on what form the game will take but an action-adventure type of romp taking its lead from the books (or movies) would be the safe bet. Expect lots of Hogwarts, and big fat Hagrid and a little boy with Lego hair then.

If we had to pin the tail on a release date... Well, there is a new movie out next year (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince if you need reminding). We've contacted Warner in the UK for comment. More soon.

Never played a Lego game before but this one I may buy depending on what the story is going to be.
jadehill2001 on 1 Dec '08
Nooooo... make them stop, Indiana Jones was a step too far, Batman was horrible... this, sounds terrible.

STOP WITH THE CRAPPY LEGO GAMES. unless it is a proper lego game, not a film game, they are a waste of time, AND NOT PROPER GAMES

define proper game please.

i think they are great games, not worth the £30 but when they drop as the always do are great for £20.

light hearted and not too demanding, nice sunday gaming.

OMG I luv these games sooo much. I cant get enuff ov them. Me an my boyf play em all the time.
chantellestar on 1 Dec '08
proper game as in games like the mario series, GOW/2, Tomb Raider, even the games of the films (harry Potter) are just a few that i could think of off the top of my head.

Lego should stay as the building play brick things, not clogging the game shelves

The word 'duh' can sum up this news piece. New Harry Potter film? Warner Bros own TT Games? Lego already has a very popular Harry Potter set series? There was absolutely zero chance this wasn't going to happen.

I don't really see the logic here. I'd certainly consider the Lego games far more worthy of shelf space than 99% of all film adaptations (which we all know are typically awful) - the Harry Potter games are laughable at best.

Besides, you have to remember that the Lego games are not designed with adults in mind - they just have enough about them to attract certain older gamers. If anything, they should be applauded for trying to make games for kids that are not patronisingly easy or limited.

while i agree that the lego games do idead look and deserve more shelf space than movie adaptation games, and are meant for kids, there are loads of kids games, mostly on DS and Wi

True - but, I think that 'kids' games tend to be shambolic at best. I think it's incredibly lazy when publishers and devs just grab a popular license - wrap a half-ar**d, predictable and unimaginative game around it and then assume that it's OK because it's target market is under the age of 10....it's almost like saying 'they won't notice how rubbish it is - they're kids, they don't know any better!'.

At least TT make a real effort to make something playable and enjoyable - I think that's also the reason why their games appeal to adults as well as children.

Stuff this, I want Lego Spiderman!!
GuyWhoLikesBlue2 on 1 Dec '08
Hopefully they will move away from the normal formula. I'm getting tired of the Lego games now. Although I am 18...and like what already has been stated, these games were for a younger auidence.
Robzy1990 on 1 Dec '08
Lego harry potter, has been on the cards since june/july.
From what i hear TT will be making the game.

Also TT were never given a copy of Indi Jones, when the new movie came out, they had to go out and buy their own so they could keep to the story as much as they could lol. And as the game was being made before the movie came out, ye old torrents where used lol.

I realised movie tie-in games were crap when I was 10.

I bet half of these haters haven't even PLAYED a Lego game... and even if they have, so what?

Just because you thought the other Lego games were a disaster, it doesn't mean this one will be.

I personally think it will be quite good if they do it right.
