While there'll be no official PS3 price cut for a while yet, you can currently pick up the console on the cheap via Sony Style, the company's direct sales division.
The site's offering 40GB PS3s for £249, representing a £40 saving on the model.
If you're looking for a tasty 80GB PS3 bundle this Christmas, there's a LittleBigPlanet one listed as "available soon" for £279, so keep your eyes peeled.
Maybe Sony needs to hurry up and officially cut the price of its console if it wants to start competing better against Xbox 360, which Microsoft reckons is outselling PS3 across Europe at the moment?
That's a good price, you can also get 6% back through QUIDCO, making it about Ł230, upgrade the HDD if you want and you've got a 250GB PS3 for under Ł300!
lol@the SonyStyle website for any other EU country, half the stuff isint available. Id get a PS3 if it cost under 300euro, but meh, looking at a 360 as that only costs 225Euro for the premium version
PS3 is being outsold by 360 by a huge margin in europe and america according to vgchartz. PS3 slightly ahead in Japan. Weird Sony failed to cut price pre-Xmas. Rumours of a March price cut for PS3 can hardly be doing wonders for sales!!!!

Sony have already released a statement about those rumours man. Go back through the archive and you will find it.

"Meh" was formally adopted as a genuine word in the English language this year. It's origins apparently rooted in an early 1990's The Simpsons episode where Homer asks Bart and Lisa if they want to participate in some sort of family quality time activity and they unenthusiastically reply "Meh" which is what the word has come to signify: a lackluster indifference or there abouts.
As for the PS3 I personally still find it way too expensive compared to what the two other main console competitors offer. If I were to buy a console this year it would be an Xbox 360.
God, there are a lot worse things to say other than 'meh'. The forums are obviously as slow as the news stories today!
Historically it has never been cheaper to buy direct from large consumer electronic companies as they don't want to p**s off the retail outlets they rely on to shift the majority of their units. The Sony store on TCR is more expensive than the other shops, so it's a change to see it so cheap!
I guess this proves that Sony really can't afford to cut the retails price of the PS3 right now. By doing this they are basically just cutting off the retailers profit, so passing on the savings direct to the customer.
Can only be a good thing I suppose, I have no allegiance to any gaming/electronics shop. If suivalooms list of upcoming games are actually AAA games (not hyped like RFROM2, Mirrors Edge, Nuts & Bolts etc - good games but not system sellers on their own) and come out within a year, coupled with a price nearer to Ł200 and it should start to really shift!

I think it was funny for the duration of that episode.
Well, it's an actual word in the English dictionary now, so you'd better get used to it.

I was quite amazed to see Heavenly Sword shifting so many copies in the US recently.
Like you say, there is no reason why LBP can't be a slow burner as the only people who really know about it are those who read websites, like good old C&VG. Once the ad's pick up a bit, you never know.
Just been having a look at PS3 prices since the 'massive' VAT reduction. Play.com are selling an 80GB PS3 with LittleBigPlanet, another game, a blu-ray film and a blu-ray remote for Ł289.99. Better value than I am used to seeing, and I'm tempted to get one so that I have less to spend on other people at Christmas!
still too expensive. If i was in the market for a console why would I buy a PS3? Exclusive titles worth having?... (a handful at best). Expensive hardware, not such a good online community.
We all know the PS3 was about bluray and install base of that format so for the next decade sony receive a royalty for every bluray disc sold for games and films. Over hyped and over priced... maybe next gen they'll look to innovate rather than follow the crowd...

i am making a stand against such words as this and 'lol', 'rofl' and bouncebackability!!! seriously what did i go to school and university for?
still nice to see the ps3 coming down in price.
My least favourite 'new word' has got to be 'addicting'. The Americans use it relentlessly. Is it the US equivalent of 'addictive'?
My least favourite American phrase is 'I could care less'. Either they don't get what the phrase should really mean, or they really do care about a lot of menial stuff!
