I have been waiting a very long time for this, and it's good news that it's close to release. The fact that it's on Steam probably means it'll come at a premium, but when fan-made mods come this good I imagine it'll be entirely worth it.
I really look forward to the day I can revisit Black Mesa in all it's Sourcey glory.
i gave up waiting on this, when i saw it first 4 years ago i was excited( it looked great then nevermind now ) but its just been going on far to long. Ill definately play it when/if it ever gets released, but wont hold my breath
Nope, this will be free of charge. Valve already host mods for free on Steam.
There's no saying the makers won't end up charging for it if they know enough people would pay for it. After all, Garry's Mod was free at first too. The good news is that because it's not their story, they might risk getting into trouble if they try to sell it
Really impressive trailer though. Looks like it's going to be well made.
W-O-W. Was wondering a while back if anyone would ever do this and I'm so glad they have! Can't think of a better excuse to revisit the Black Mesa Facility!

That would be Valve's call, not the modders. Only Gary's Mod 10 is charged for, the previous 9 versions are still free and available for download.
If this is released as a mod - and there's no reason to suspect otherwise - it will be free.

So basically what you're saying is, a bunch of amateurs working only in their spare time, should be able to produce something faster than a group of professional, full-time games developers do?
Would this Mod be for Left4 Dead or is it a standalone?
If it's priced then it would stand alone. If free it would be a mod for Half-Life 2 Episode 1 engine version (which you can still play if you only have HL2).
This project has been going on a LOT longer than L4D!
Amazing. This is what Half-Life Source should have been, rather than just the original game's assets with physics thrown in. One of the best mods I've ever seen. Looking forward.
Very impressive. Maybe it was due to my being younger and my tastes have changed in some part since then, yet while I was thrilled with Half-Life 2 I never really felt it was quite as comfortable story wise compared to Half-Life 1. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that Half-Life 1 is far more recognizable to the contemporary world I live in.
pretty good stuff. If its free all the better to go back and see where the story all began. Would be an awesome pack if you got another orange box with black mesa, hl2 ep1, 2 , 3 and a few other games.
Yes yes, I should have read the whole thread. All I did was watch the video then posted a comment. I didn't bother reading people's insightful comments (because let's face it, users on CVG have ever so insightful things to say usually )

This looks amazing and the voice work sounds spot on. I am really looking forward to seeing a new version of Xen and mostly how the ending with Nihilanth will look and play.
The original Half Life is still the best FPS ever for me.
Same here. Though Half-Life 2 came close to giving me that same feeling. As someone else said, it would be cool if they brought it out on an Orange Box 2.
