We've known it was coming for almost a year now, and Naughty Dog has finally let the cat out of the bag on the sequel to its fantastic PS3-exclusive adventure, now officially titled Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
The first trailer has been released (below) and shows a fairly beaten-up Nathan Drake trudging through a snowy landscape and picking up an artefact. That's it though, so not many clues, then.
A teaser for the next issue of GameInformer, which will feature the game on the cover, is a little more helpful. "Nathan Drake returns with a whole new adventure which revolves around the 13th century explorer Marco Polo and his voyages," says GameInformer. "The new PlayStation 3 title will add a free climbing mechanic and stealth gameplay. Players can also expect all-new locations, characters and a focus on the game's story."
A presumably lengthier trailer will be shown during the 2008 Video Game Awards show, airing on December 14, 2008, at 9:00 PM (pacific - 5am UK) on Spike, says Naughty Dog.
The first one was ok, but the puzzles were far too easy, and the game was too short. Finished the whole thing in one sitting. Hope they can do better with the next one

I found it a damn site more accessible than Tomb Raider, Uncharted certainly wins on combat.
Not sure what you mean by that. Of course it was more accessible. It was easier
I've never had a problem controlling Lara, but sometimes the camera angles went a bit odd. Been playing Tomb Raider Underworld this week, and it has definitely moved the game ahead from the previous incarnations (and graphically it is far superior to Uncharted). Will be interesting to see what Naughty Dog can do in response...

I don't think they have to respond to Underworld. Uncharted is an all round better game.

lol! how naughty dog respond, tomb raider isnt in the same league as uncharted in terms of gameplay and graphics still. uncharted plays better than any tomb raider game released. the only thing it lacks is boobs

10 times better in my opinion. Tomb Raider has been punting out the same "backflip, shoot, backflip" combat since the ps1. i know a lot of people say that its not about the combat but it makes up a third of the game. Uncharted's cover system and hand to hand combat just blow TR out the water and if they can keep it up for the sequel we could be looking at the next top "grave robber" game.

Reviews of Underworld said Laras combat is AWFUL. and Laras health sinks faster than her enemies, that take considerable rounds of ammunition to put down.
Good to see another Uncharted in development. All this talk of Tomb Raider, I found Tomb Raider's last games (not Underworld - haven't played it) easy in comparison to Uncharted, and I found Uncharted easy. The time trial mode just shows how short Lara's games are too. Back to the matter at hand though. They do need harder puzzles, maybe tougher climbing sections. The only bit that was hard was the combat, although few and far between, certain places would see you dead in seconds. Not sure about the stealth element of the gameplay. I remember the "stealth" bits from Jak III, don't do that again Naughty Dog.
Well, I can't recall having to even vaguely think about a single puzzle in Uncharted. It was all so obvious and easy, I was getting very bored with it by the end. Run, jump, shoot, climb shoot, jump, press button/lever, run, shoot, etc... The combat was simplistic, and the story had more holes than a swiss cheese. Not a bad game, but certainly not great.
I've not finished Underworld yet (although I think I'm near the end). Thought the puzzles were definitely better thought out than those in Uncharted. At least I had to search around for stuff and work out a couple of things (unlike in uncharted).

I don't know, I needed Action Replay to finish Tomb Raider Anniversary! The camera was awful and the boss fights were complete pants.
Underworld wins out in the jumping and climbing stakes, but the combat is as woeful as ever. Uncharted had a decent combat mechanic (clearly following the GoW mould, but it worked well) which broke up the platforming sections nicely.
The sequal needs some harder puzzles though, as the ones in Uncharted could have been solved by a 5 year old in their sleep. Underworld does well on this front too, actually.
Overall loved the first game though, and I intend to replay it before the sequal hits. And by the sound of things some reading up on Marco Polo may be in order.
having both and played both to bits they are great titles but far too short. the problem being that when you have great graphics of this quality they can only be kept up for so long. hence a short game. if only they would take a note from resi 4 with it's huge areas, lengthy game and amazing graphics. have you all noticed as well the must have running along the wall on a rope. not that i have it but i think it was also used in the demo of alone in the dark. thsi and lara both copied from drake.

i didn't even finish the first level before throwing it back at the shop. the camera was terrible, one of the worst i've ever had the misfortune to use. you couldn't even see what you were shooting sometimes
Excellent news - and how apt that the trailer is based in the snow. I know exactly how Nathan feels!
A point to note is that ND never used CGI in their cutscenes for Uncharted 1, so I would imagine that the trailer is in-game. No doubt they will have some wicked snow effects, as they did with the water (soaking Nathans clothes) in the first game.
Uncharted is still the only full price game that I have collected all the trophies on, which is a testament to how much I enjoyed the game.
I do agree that the puzzles should be made tougher, but I don't necessarily expect, or need, a longer game. As long as the quality is as good as the first game, I will be happy.
I am sure that ND have learnt a lot from their first foray into this series and will definitely produce a cracking game.
Most excited. There certainly aren't enough decent adventure games to get my teeth stuck into these days.
Awesome. Uncharted remains the best PS3 exclusive in my eyes, although games like LBP and Wipeout HD have given it some good competition for that title.
The sequel is pretty much a must-buy already for me.
Lara definitely has the edge when it comes to platforming, at least since CD took over development duties, but both Uncharted and Tomb Raider are equally woeful when it comes to combat. With the exception of key story events, Tomb Raider's combat serves no purpose, whereas it's more necessary to the story in Uncharted but equally as dull. The original took a weak mechanic and stretched it well beyond breaking point.
Luckily there's more to both games than combat, and buying one doesn't leave you unable to buy the other. So you can stop using that age old internet technique; indirectly praising one game by trashing a similar one.

Prince of Persia did this before any of these games. In fact, Sands of Time was probably as influential to Uncharted (and new Tomb Raider) as the original Tomb Raider was. It's just a shame that PoP has lost his way some...

And it was the frustrating 'rewind time' feature that ensured I never bothered with POP after Sands Of Time.

It wasn't frustrating in the slightest. It made a good change from constant reloads.
I love Uncharted but it did have problems. The puzzles weren't really puzzles and the combat wanted to be Gears but was samey, clumsy and didn't come close. I've played through it twice and I'll be playing through it again after I've caught up with the backlog but the last couple of TR games were far superior. The combat has been reeled back in Underworld and the game is better for it, and I hope they do the same for Uncharted 2. I'd rather they beef up the puzzles and focus more on exploration than have to stop every 10 minutes to take out a couple of waves of enemies. The first Uncharted had a great 'blockbuster' feel so I'm hoping 2 is more Empire Strikes Back than Back to the Future 2.

What was frustrating about being able to rewind time? Mess up a jump? Rewind time before you 'die' to try it again. Other similar games just have death to look forward to in these situations. In fact, I'd go as far to say that the rewind time feature was their to alleviate frustration, not cause it.
I cant believe some people are moaning about the combat from the first game.
I thought it was up there with Gears of War and GTA4 for best combat in a game. Apart from those 2 games I cant think of any other game currently available that has better combat than Uncharted.
I loved the first one and I still think its the best new IP this generation.
Awesome, just playing through the first one now actually, borrowed it from a friend and thought i'd give it a proper chance and it's actually a really great game!
I think Crash Bandicoot, Sonic et al have proved that 3D platforming of the Jak and Daxter ilk belong one generation back. they were great then but gaming has moved on, unless they go for a completely new angle a la Nuts and Bolts.
I'm personally looking forward to Uncharted 2, I thought the characters in the first were up there with the best of any game, really skilfully brought to life, excellent dialogue etc. The shooting was solid, but the platforming etc was a little basic.
Tomb Raider on the other hand (playing through Underworld at the mo and loving it) has far better puzzles and platforming, but the combat is a bit broken and the characters are more 2 dimensional than Uncharted.
I think Crystal Dynamics and Naughty Dog should team up to become Naughty Crystal, then combine their knowledge to make the ultimate tomb raiding extravaganza!
Haven't played the first, friends have said it was very good though, but very easy.
Naughty Dog is such a crap name though, what are some of these people thinking when they name their companies?!?! I can't believe they are among anyone's fave developers though - all so-so 3D platform games before uncharted. Although someone said 3D platformers belong in the last gen - Galaxy anyone, one of the best games this gen (highest score on metacritic in 2007 I think) on any console with the sheer imagination in the level design. Or is the wii classed as 'last gen'???? I'm going to play through it again.
Yet another game to put on the '2009 - PS3's Year' list! That's not being sarccy by the way.

my first play was on hard, sounds like many started on normal and complain it was too easy well would expect normal to be anything but, well normal difficulty.
Anyway hell of a day for Ps3 news, first this, then the heavy rain screens and now the first trailer of GOW 3 to be revealed DEC14th,s**t and the KZ 2 SP embargo is lifted this thursday.

naughty dog deserve there rep, jak and daxter games were quality. Rare with there big reputation cant even match the 1st jak game with that abomination nutz and bolts! lol!
The first one was OK. not great, but worthy of a sequel. Having said that, if the stealth aspects are overly prominent I'll probably give it a miss.
From what I understand it will be 50% Uncharted 25% Cliffhanger (the film) and 25% MGS.
Stealth gameplay is generally accepted, I'm not suggesting Uncharted 2 will fail for it. I just personally hate it. I haven't played MGS since the first one, wont touched Splinter Cell and get annoyed when stealth sections crop up in FPS games etc. Specially the ones that make you restart when seen.
For me it was the game of last year and now its available on platinum, it’s a must for anyone who hasn’t played it. Too easy? Depends what level you play it on. On normal, it took me 18 hours to finish. I didn’t get all the treasure either and going to play it again to get the trophies. There are tough (sometimes frustrating) parts to it, like certain shoot outs and the jet bike parts.
I thought the original was overhyped due to a lack of quality titles at the time, but for its genre, its probably right up there. Obviously it's got alot more competition now from the likes of Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, etc, but ND is a wuality developer and I'm sure they've learnt alot from their first outing on PS3. I for one am certainly looking forward to the sequel.
Okay i havent played the new tomb raider but my god iv never been more confused on a demo before, i mean first play through its bound to be a long game because you spend an hour on each puzzle, its a video game not Suduku.
Uncharted is still the best game on PS3 to date, and how can you say TRUW has better graphics makes no sense, Uncahrted looked like a film, it had amaizng gameplay, great shooting mechanics which took some skill (yeah just holding in the LT is not skill) it showed that a adventure game can be as action packed as any other game. the cover system was amazing and on the hardest difficulty you would have to not only save ammo but get every shot perfect.
Can't wait for number 2 and ND are a great company, as for Jak and Daxter sequel, well you cant compare them to the new spyro and crash because unlike them J&D is with its original company, no one else notice crash was only good when ND created it, they only publish a few games but they take there time on each game, which is why there games are good, this applies for Epic too.
Similar comments about playing it once then picking it up again so much later. I think the trophys are responsbile for this, they make you search a game and this is what brought out so many of UN's qualities.
