PS3 2.53 update actually out

AWOL firmware update finally goes live
The PS3 2.53 firmware update which, according to a rogue PlayStation.com post, was originally expected for release out last week, has finally been released.

Even though the official PlayStation blog still says the update is "coming soon", turning on your PS3 now will prompt the update, which adds improved, full-screen Flash Player support in the PS3's web browser.

The update also includes power save options to stop your controllers dieing out and "the playback quality of some PlayStation 3 format software has been improved." Read the full list of tweaks and changes here.

Your update list is still wrong. 99% of those 'updates' are already available on the PS3.

Power save has been there since the previous update at least because I've been using it. Jolly useful that, except I suppose if you set it to 5 minutes and watch cutscenes like in MGS4.
Rest of the features though not fussed about. Just gonna stop me from playing LBP / Resistance 2 straight away today.

I wouldn't know because my PS3 is poorly. I'll have to wait till the 10th before I can play LBP again. Missing you already!... Crying or Very sad

Does any1 actually know what this update is? Its annoying that when you do the update they dont bother telling you what its done. Not even CVG can get there facts right lately

In fairness though, this is the official list from Sony. Every site has it wrong, it's not just CVG.

And Mark, I know how you feel mate. My PS3 kicked the bucket around a month ago. The night of October 31st. Must have been a ghost or something. Five days before LBP... the yellow light of death (which I had never heard of before it happened to me). It ate the game I was playing and everything... couldn't eject it, so I dismantled the console and the BR drive and got it back myself. Evil or Very Mad
But anyhow, there was thankfully a spare console in the house. My dad has one for watching Blu-Rays so he gave me his. Hence the lack of killing spree. Smile

I just phoned Sony and they said they will replace the faulty console with a new one (60gb as well!) even though it is out of warranty! Can't fault them, really. I wish it hadn't happened though because all my mates are playing RFOM2. Gutted.

Perhaps the update is merely to ready the platform for the imminent release of Home - Thursday anyone?
Currychips on 2 Dec '08
Doubt it, from what I can tell it is only a flash player update, hopefully will iron out any judders when watching ps3iplayer

Sooooo, without meaning to start some manner of riot:

Wouldn't the fact that this is the official list (and the fact that it contains upgrades already implemented) suggest that Sony are up to their subversive old tricks again?

Empty promises are one thing but this is like trying to bribe somebody with last month's paycheck which has already been spent. Confused

Try reading the posts again, only this time with your tongue out of CVG's bottom this time. They haven't listed the right update. Every other site has. So rather than being a stupid fanboy and spouting conspiracy theories...
