Atari's released the first batch of media for CD Projekt RED's The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf.
The game's based on the story of the PC RPG but is being rebuilt "pixel by pixel" for consoles. It'll feature a brand new combat system and a new engine "delivering matchless state-of-the-art visuals", according to the publisher.
It's due out in autumn 2009.

Must say the trailer looks awesome. I have only heard good things about this game, is the PC version really the best RPG there has been in the last few years? Anyone?
Looks fantastic! Thought the scene in the snow covered forest with wolves looked like they switched over to an almost animated cartoon like grain image quality. This video makes me want to go play The Witcher again on my new PC like I promised myself I would on my old computer.
To the poster above me: I haven't played all of the RPGs for the PC in the past few years so I can't authoritatively state that The Witcher is better than all of them (nevermind the personal taste factor involved in such a statement). What I can say is that it is one of the most engrossing RPGs I have played and it is perhaps the best one I have played since Baldur's Gate II and Deus Ex. High praise indeed in my book.
I must admit to liking the PC RPG's more than the rinse and repeat JRPG's we seem to get all the time on consoles. The last great RPG I played was Neverwinter Nights (of which I still often have a dabble on using my laptop) and would love something similar on the consoles.
I'm keeping my eye on The Witcher and that new Sacred game with fingers crossed.

Right, I bought it on my PC which scraped the minimum requirements. Played it a fair bit and thought it was pretty darn good but as mine lagged a helluva lot I couldn't enjoy it fully. Also, it seemed to want to connect to the internet all the time which really pi$$ed me off as suddenly a box would just pop up while I was checking my email etc. I thought the combat was actually pretty boring, all you did was just click when a little icon appeared and changed you sword style; it was kinda shallow and took away from the experience.
the Witcher sure as hell was adult though, within the first half an hour my character had already had sex, taken drugs, been subject to racism and discrimination and had robbed some fat merchants.
A fun game which I think is better suited to consoles, hence my happiness that it is coming to ps3

Sounds promising. Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll? Yes please. Aty least its not just a stright port, the Devs seem to want to give the console generation their own game, hopefull that should solve any combat issues you may have had. Deffo one to keep an eye on next year.

Glass Half Full.
Please stop with the Glass half full catchphrase!
It is almost as annoying as that Garmin advert on the radio. Or that bloody Animal Crossing advert in here!

Neverwinter is a great game - you should keep an eye out for that BioWare title 'Dragon Age' (I think that's what it's called), it sounds as if it has a similar feel...BioWare can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm also loving my RPG's at the moment - I've literally just started Fallout 3 and I'm very impressed so far. I've never been a fan of JRPG's though - FF7 was the only one I've ever really bothered with.
Still, I've heard some really good things about the Witcher - so I was very pleased to see that it was being ported to the 360....definitely one to look forward to.

Only kidding.*
*It is annoying though.
Come on Mark. Im only trying to give this place a positive vibe, generally most people look like they clicked onto CVG by mistake cause they were looking for a self harming website or something similiar.
I shall maybe use the 'catchphrase' on Special Occasions only, hows that for a compromise?
Surely it can be as annoying as this bloody Animal Crossing advert? If I hear that stupid little tune one more time .....!
I was thinking about picking up the new version of The Witcher for PC, but I might hold off for this one. If they can make the combat work then I'll be sold.
Dragon Age does look very promising and BioWare has had it's hand in some of my favourite and most memorable gaming moments. Unfortunately BioWare was also acquired by EA and while BioWare retains creative executive powers at present time it still means that all their games ship with EA's malware-like DRM SecuROM and limited activations. I will never again buy a BioWare product, nor an EA, Ubisoft nor Sony product for that matter, until they drop that crap. I won't hold my breath though. A damn shame.

I don't play PC games anymore, so I've not really ran into some of the issues with DRM stuff - sounds awful though.
I was very worried when EA bought BioWare, but - so far at least - they still seem to be producing the same quality titles that they've always done...I'm hoping that Dragon Age will be the same - it's also coming to PS3 and 360.

Nah, carry on fella. I'd probably mix it up a bit though for the special occassions. Maybe take all of those half full glasses and pour the contents into a massive jug. I'd imagine you are saving one for Alan Wake news, or possibly Halo Recon?
Oh, and I have turned my speakers off. It is the only way to stay sane.

And don't talk to me about the Wii! Have you ever seen Halloween: Season of the witch? I reckon that evil bloke is doing the adverts for Nintendo! Don't come crying to me if a snake slides out of your ear, people!
