First 360 Avatar clothing DLC out

Ski and snowboarding gear for little Xbox people
Microsoft has just released the first clothing pack for Xbox 360 Avatars, which lets your little people dress up in Winter-warm ski and snowboarding gear.

The new clothing should automatically appear in your Avatar's wardrobe the next time you log in. There's not much there; just a jacket, a hat, some gloves and a pair of boots, but it's nice to make your tiny geezer all snug, anyway.

According to Microsoft, this is only the first of a stream of free updates. German Xbox product manager, Boris Schneider-Johne revealed that the first regular top ups will be free, but after that "It has not been announced" how Avatar content will be priced.

For the record, we're only paying for little Nike Air Force Ones. And only maybe.

Just make it all free - really, would ANYONE pay for this guff?

Just make it all free - really, would ANYONE pay for this guff?

If they did, I think it's very unlikely they'd admit it.

I'm not even sure that I could even be bothered to check the wardrobe for free clothing updates...my avatar was created within 5 minutes and not touched since.

Smile
ParmaViolet on 4 Dec '08
Of course they will. The same people who spend hours creating Miis or Animal Crossing characters and the same people who pay for outfits and items in Korean RPGs.

I sure as hell wouldn't though. If I'm gonna pay for anything, it'll be something that actually benefits my gaming experience in some way.

Bored?
It's a dashboard - how exciting do you expect it to be? Do you get your jollies when you turn on your DVD player then?

I'm bored of NXE already.

By that do you mean you've gotten used to it? Surely that's the idea.

It's only a matter of time before this stuff starts creeping in. I can't see Mjolnir armour being that far off...

I can understand micro transactions on ps3 as their service is free but this is insane and even though i would still play games over xbox live i would never buy any more content over their service until xbl is free end off.
tommygouldbourn on 4 Dec '08
paying for clothes for an avatar is simply one step short of the male population going out and buying Barbie & Ken dolls!!! don't do it people

Unfortunately, it's an absolute certainty that if microsoft brought out a halo/gow outfit they'll start selling Sad
prevhog on 4 Dec '08
What i wanna know is if you did buy DLC clothing would other people see it when they look at your avatar?

If they dont its even more pointless, but if they do does it mean that the clothes are automatically downloaded by every1 are we are just paying to unlock it?
roland82 on 4 Dec '08
COG armour for me, failing that Lara's skintight scuba gear.
FiltyMonkey on 4 Dec '08

Yup. I'd almost consider those, but wouldn't actually pay for them.

I think you should unlock items with certain achievements. An avatar holding a Gears Lancer or wearing a Master Chief helmet would show the world that you had whatever Achievement.

Mugs? So you think I would be better off not playing any of my games on line then, and sticking with the (woeful) Silver subscription?
It's nothing to do with being a mug, as I stated elsewhere, if you own a 360, you have two choices, pay and play, or don't and don't.

Now go troll elsewhere you game hating idealist.
_Marty_ on 4 Dec '08
Until games start coming out that actually use Avatars, I think they're pretty useless.

And even when they do start appearing, they'll probably be Wii style games designed to be played with friends/family. And seeing as I'm not really interested in those games, the whole thing probably wont appeal to me.

I love how every article somehow ends up being turned into a fanboy war. It speaks volumes of the kind of people the rest of us are dealing with this generation.

If your console isn't satisfying you on it's own merit, you shouldn't feel the need to rag on someone else's. And in fact, they do say that hate and love are very closely linked, so perhaps it's a regret thing and they wish they'd chosen the other.

See me, I've now owned all 3 of this-gen's consoles. They all have their good points and their bad points. I know that. Everyone else knows that. I don't need to make myself feel better by telling everyone how much one of them sucks.

On-topic or STFU.

Yes, the option to sell your Xbox and game on something else doesn't exist. You're contractually bound to suffer whatever policy MS chooses to instate.

Dear oh dear. Laughing

You do realise that no Xbox means no competition for teh Playstation, which in turn means Sony can do and charge whatever the hell they like for their console, games AND online service?
Or are such concepts lost on you?

Wow, you're quite right. When my girlfriend gave me my Xbox last Christmas, I should have thrown it back at her in disgust and simply said 'Microsoft...LOL'... Rolling Eyes

Why must I sell my Xbox? I'm perfectly happy with the games and services it provides. Its YOU that isn't - someone that doesn't own a 360, or any other console, and seemingly hates anything (and EVERYTHING!) to do with games...

Do you hate to see other people happy? Misery doens't really like company, that's just something miserable people say.

Can one of the CVG moderators please delete Chris_ace, the guy's a f*cking idiot. And I mean idiot in the true sense of the word - incapable of making a good point, independent thought, putting together a proper argument etc...

Anyway, as for paying for avatar clothing - well yes, I think you would have to be stupid to pay for it, but then people also paid for gamerpics and things like that - if no one paid for this crap, they wouldn't keep charging for it.

Xbox Live is a fantastic service and I'll happily pay for it. I remember at time I said I wouldn't and tried it and haven't looked back since.

You clearly don't like Microsoft or xbox and don't own the console so how about you go comment in forums that concern you?

In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to see how Sony manages content and price in second li.. er, sorry, home. I'm just hoping there'll be an egg option for your face.

Clearly this is Microsofts way of trying to eleviate such hard times.
Maybe I should start selling things people don't need to, to try and secure my future a bit too.

Nah, it's just Mogs spouting the same rhetoric, day in, day out.
I honestly have no idea why he visits this site. At least you seem to like gaming, whether my opinion often differs from yours or otherwise.
If you can EVER find a positive post regarding gaming (hell, a positive post full stop) from Mogs, you deserve a medal.

Nah, maybe not a medal. But a cookie, definitely.

I think the avatar is a good idea and look forward to being able to do more things with the avatar in the future but hope they bring out an exclusive world similar to what PS3 doing with playstation home. there is not really allot of clothes selection at the moment but enough to personalize your avatar dude/girl for now.. I think the way how it is integrated into the dashboard is a good feature as face it the only competition at the moment is the wii little avatar which is too kidified, this version is just in between playstation realism and nintendo fun....

YOU GOT IT SPOT MS

No Chris_ace, I just don't like stupid people. Seriously, you don't do anyone any good, other than take the shi*ty jobs that no one else wants. You're a f**king cretin - criticise MS all you want, I really don't care, but only if you can actually put a coherent argument together.
