Xbox Live won't crash at Christmas - MS

No repeats of last year's Live hiccups, promises Xbox man Aaron Greenberg
Xbox Live won't crash again this Christmas as it did last year, Xbox group product manager Aaron Greenberg has promised.

Speaking to Kotaku, the Xbox man said that even with all of the new, cheaper consoles downloading the New Xbox Experience on Christmas day, Microsoft will be prepared.

"We've built a lot of infrastructure, a lot of behind the curtain no one sees," he said. "This is something that Microsoft is good at. We are well prepared for the type of growth we expect this holiday.

"We will have people standing by, more people on hand than we've ever had before," he said. "Knock on wood we will hopefully not have any issues."

I kinda hope it does crash again just so I can get a crappy free game too Very Happy (I missed out last year 'cos I didn't have my 360 just then).

They do seem to have used that in about 10 different stories....

Good to hear that Live won't collapse again but, really, does anyone have much chance to play over Live on Christmas day? I should be so lucky.
_Marty_ on 11 Dec '08
They wanna look at it now, mine seems determined not to let me add any MS points.
cpemblington on 11 Dec '08
Sounds like that after last years embarrassing downtime, they've not just sured things up but have gone the full monty with "belt & braces" resilience...let's hope that with the large surge in predicted Christmas sales and spike in existing & new Live users over the festive period that they don't end up with egg on their face!
Tonyb on 11 Dec '08
ill not hold my breath, thing is i reckon we'll all have enough campaign modes to be getting on with over christmas anyway....

Can't say I've noticed any speed problems at all after the NXE update, infact, other than a few delays from GoW2 match-ups which are said to be a game specific issue rather than bandwidth/Server, everything's been smooth and if anything, even slicker.

Sounds like you either have a sick 360, sick internet/wireless connection or both.

Mine is just fine. It even seems quicker than before to navigate the menus.
leefear1 on 11 Dec '08
Mine does similar but not as bad. Everything else on the machine has been running smooth as nut though. a

I think its to do with a patchy net connection. Are you using the wireless adapter?

I only have the problem when its not directly plugged into the router with a cable.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 11 Dec '08
i don't care about live,my 360 crashes after 3-5 minutes after launching fallout3, even gears starting to have some framerate issues, i got this shrot from february and it's broken already .

ms are a bunch of k**b jockies

gonz on 11 Dec '08
agreed, Marketplace is definitely slower. no problems playing online though.
shellster2 on 12 Dec '08
Yeah right. Is there anyone present who recalls any major online meeting place/gaming portal not crashing upon facing the online hordes of players? I'm not saying it's impossible but I'm hard pressed to think of any where the servers didn't collapse. Feel free to correct me.
