Looks like the folks in Sony's tech department have worked out the day's earlier issues and have managed to get Home out to the masses.
Home director Jack Buser is excited. "I am so very happy to announce that PlayStation Home has now officially entered into Open Beta. Restart your PlayStation 3, and you will see the PlayStation Home icon under the PlayStation Network column of the XMB. Click on the icon, and you are in."
Simple as that, though we're still hearing a few reports of dropped connections, probably because its being battered. Over the last few hours PSN's been up and down like a lift.
"Getting to this point has required a tremendous amount of participation, input, care, and passion from the thousands of beta testers who helped make PlayStation Home what it is today. So to all of you that have tested, from all of us on the PlayStation Home team here at Sony: 'Thank You!'"
Buser continued, "For those of you that are new to PlayStation Home, be sure to plug in a USB keyboard (or pair your Bluetooth headset) and start meeting your fellow PS3 owners.
"And remember, even with all the spaces, rewards, items, and activities available today, what you see now is just the beginning. Home will grow, change, and evolve very quickly - and it is all based on your feedback."

No, apparently there's no trophies and I've made it a principle not to buy games without them. There is just no excuse to not put them in now, especially when the achievements were already in the 360 version that came out ages ago.
I got that Astro Trippin game and its alright. Just over 3 quid and its your typical side scrolling shooter. Im no fan of the genre to be honest so I cant really say if its special as they all just seem the same to me. For the price though it seems pretty good.

well i think home is brilliant!! so much more to come and has massive potential. It feels solid and thats what sony have been working on the past year. One year sorting out the software and adding new features has really paid off. Ok its small at the moment but in time it will be huge!!!! i cant wait to get back on it tonight! ok i think charging for all the clothes and furniture is a bit silly but i heard trophies won in games will make you cash for spending in home. Surely this feature will be activated pretty soon.
Took a while for mine to appear last night and I had about an hour of the PSN telling me it didn't exist, but once I was in I stayed in. I played a couple of games of pool last night and another this morning.
Not been able to get close to the bowling though - it's always packed out.
hmm, I finally got in this morning for a quick bash. A bunch of people of walking about? Maybe some bowling and chess n stuff but, well, hardly exciting or anything special so far. I'll give it time to sort itself out. My main gripe is the lack of stuff to make your avatar with and charging for stuff like t-shirts. 2 styles of glasses, neither what most people would wear, 5 shoe designs? I haven't noticed and "larger" people, no HUGE breasts or other things that wouldnt be so difficult to do, I dont want them for me of course ;o) To me for such a "large" project the design of the avatar seemed weak. I also wish you could download all of it rather than constantly having to do little downloads at every new place..... We'll see how it pans out, why do people dance so much? Maybe I'm just getting old hahahaha

So, how's HOME then now people have had a chance to get in (assuming they have)? All what you hoped for? Better? Worse? Worth the wait?
I didn't have any problems getting on it at all neither did my sister but I spent 20-30 minutes on it and it seems kinda good, not really my thing but can see it being really good if sony plays it right.
Downloaded fine, didn't really take that long, and each new area is a fairly small file too.
My only gripe is the price of bits and bobs. Did I hear there was a trophy reward system? That would be very nice.
Also isn't there supposed to be somewhere we can showcase our tophies? Did I miss that?
Other than that, I like it. When the game specific areas open up it'll be great. Imagine popping over to the COD area and chatting to a few people then starting up a game with them. Much better than trawling the internet for people who want to play.
I had a quick wander around too, seam ok at minute, of course a little slow to start but give it all time might develop into something fun.
Guess its really a place to have a game of virtual golf/snooker/pool/bowling etc, with your friends who dont live as close by or have the sames games as you.
Any ideas if Sony will take into account any good comments/ideas or feedback which they ask for to improve or add.

i was in the closed beta for almost a month and never had a problem gettin in, however now that its open it wont let me.....so im thinkin that if the servers cant handle an open beta with hardly anythin to do (accesible areas) etc then how the f**k is it gonna work when its fully released? and not to make you new members more angry/let down but us closed beta testers received EVERYTHING for FREE.

Yep, the download error plagued the closed beta as well. I was in the closed beta and I have not been able to log into Home, either yesterday or today. When you do get in you will be amazingly underwhelmed by the whole thing. If you want a really great looking version of "The Sims" then this is the app for you, if you want to actually have some fun then go to Little Big Planet, it seems reasonably stable online at the moment.

I'm not that bothered about actually socialising in Home, but I quite like how you get loads of free simple games included - pool, bowling, draughts, chess, etc.
The detail on the characters is quite good too - I managed to make a fairly decent version of myself (helped by the gf) although it doesn't have enough options for accessories. No watches or wristbands at all!
I'll still be spending my time gaming rather than hanging around, but when you only have a few minutes the free games are a good idea.

well i didnt have any problems with the new xbox experience but home is a complete mess and nxe allows 8 way voicechat in game something ps3 is way behind on hell u cant even play music in game apart from warhawk i hear my ps3 has been one disapointment after another apart from unreal tournament 3 (mods) and siren blood curse and valkyria chronicles. i hope they sort out this logging on problem or im just gonna delete it and not bother with it
oh and "WHAT YOU NOW SEE IS JUST THE BEGGINING" probably the only true thing to come from sonys pr department of course all i see is the beggining THE 'KING THING WON'T LOAD!!!!!!!!
I don't know why everyone has such a downer on Home - I can't even get in but I think Home is a good thing. It's just launched, give it a while to find it's feet. It's not the finished product, it actually is the beginning.
You can't punch people. Good! It would be like Dead Rising! And that's not what it wants to be, not what it's for. It would be crap if you could punch because everyone would, making it probably unusable.
And stop calling it a game. It's not. And it's not The Sim either.
if it'd start i'd give it a fair chance. but its not and until i can be bothered to change my hard drive over and redownload all my unreal mods hdd space is at a premium as it is ill give it a few days then its getting deleted so i can install valkyria chronicles.
Alot of people are reporting connection issues at the login page, despite being able to go on the ps store and play online. I cant get on home. I get a different error every time.

Fact is - there is nothing in there. 5 t-shirts, 3 chairs, and a lamp. It was supposed to launch with all the glitz and content and themed rooms and nice stuff to customize your place/character, nice areas etc.
Instead it looks as though they thought 'oh s**t it's almost the end of the year.... chop out all that stuff that isn't ready yet and release these 2 levels and no content and we'll just announce it's coming out the day before it does so there's no big build-up or anything'.

All I want to do is to be able to play games online...without lag!!!! The PS3 is a million miles away from the 360 as yet in this department. Home is a smokescreen for a console with major issues. Who wants to go have a chat with another avatar in a vitual world??!! I've got a PC if I want to do that. All I want to be able to do with my games console is see which of my friends are online and join in a game with them if I feel like it. With my 360 I can do this effortlessly, my PS3 however is clumbsy to say the least. Xbox - 1 PS3 - 0
I was in the private beta and all I did was to create my avatar then haven't touched it since, although I tried to get on tonight and it says there is a network error code and cannot connect. it has promptly been deleted from my HD. If this is Sony's big hope then quite frankly they're screwed.

I went on, looked around for half an hour then switched of. There's no incentive to stay and chat when there's sod all stuff to watch, interact or do. And I'm on 2mb broadband and the last thing I want is to sit there and wait 15 minutes as it downloads data for rooms and then another min or two to setup. Might be a good idea, but the waiting is a killer.
It needs something unique and entertaining to appear eg. live bands, new films, comedians or special events such as a yap from authors, make your own cider speaker appears, etc. Otherwise it's just boring at the mo.
It's like walking into a brand new shopping centre except there's only 60% shops open, nothing new, and nothing to do. Shame to be a PS3 owner today.

i had the home beta but when i do get into home it still says home beta even though the full version is out plus when im in home its still the same cant go anywhere apart from the cinema,mall and bowling
