Nintendo platforms appear to be in cruise control at the moment in Japan, easily outselling rival systems in the latest weekly hardware chart.
DSi was again the top seller during the week ended December 14, moving almost 50,000 units more than it managed the previous week.
Wii sales were also up 40,000 units to see the console take second place, 20,000 sales ahead of PSP.
PS3 took fourth place, narrowly outselling DS Lite, as 360 and PS2 propped up the table.
Reflecting the dominance of Nintendo consoles, Wii and DS games took the top ten places in the software chart too, with Taiko: Drum Master, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe leading the way.
I think I will pass ,I like current day graphics ,deep playability not waggle based one ,I dont want to have lots of plastic s**t in my living room (balance board,wheels,4 wiimotes and nunchakus, guitars, zappers, etc) ,I want to play proper online games ,watch some DVD and Blu Ray on my TV and have great games as Fallout 3,Valkyrie Chronicles ,Little Big Planet ,Resistence 2,Bioshock ,Motorstorm 2,COD5 etc instead of s**t like Wii Music and Wii Fit thank you.
i read the headline and thought that the power packs were faulty and catching fire.
plus i feel as if some one has stolen my identity as both Megadroid and Diomedes1977 are shouting at me and i've not done anything wrong - wheres the police!!!
well, sony should have done the same. just rebrand the PS2, with today technology, you are forced to run som Mhz quicker.. Develop un unprecise crapmote. Announce it as a new console. Target Mama and Papa. Sell tons and tons... But only Nintendo could think about such a ripoff. Anyway, enjoy your PS3 and Xbox360, with true Games for Gamers. Next ones will be craps**t with crapmote for kids and granddaddy. me? I'll buy the anyone (MS or sony) who will target hardcore gamer with a normal Gamepad... if there will be one that is !
Competition is good, but I do love a good underdog story.
It's not worth sniping the haters, but I'll say things are just going to get better for the Wii as third parties start paying attention. With Monster Hunter 3, DQX and other brilliant concepts like Fragile it really is over in Japan, nevermind the many other games worth waiting for.
i hate to say i told you so BUT I TOLD YOU SO get this global trading fact into ur fanboy skulls...
ONLY Wii and DS APPLY WE NEED SINGLE PLATFORM GAMING THOSE PLATFORMS BOTH HANDHELD AND HOME CONSOLE SHOULD BE NINTENDO THEN OTHER COMPANYS CAN LICENSE THE HARDWARE LIKE DVDS/VHS ETC
AND WE CAN ALL LIVE IN A SINGLE PLATFORM NINTENDO LED GAMING WORLD THE WAY IT SHOULD BE
You Spastic!
The combined worldwide sales of PS3 and 360 would have Nintendo neck and neck with them if PS3 never existed the 360 and Wii would be neck and neck in terms of sales it just shows that the gamers bought the PS3 and 360 and the casual gamers and Nintendo fans bought the Wii!
who will target hardcore gamer with a normal Gamepad... if there will be one that is !
I don't understand why you call it a 'normal gamepad', they constantly evolve or at least try to. That's why you're not still playing with a single huge joystick and single button. It's gamers like you that'll stop the industry moving forward, a half example would be sony's pulling of their new design of controller.
The 'crapmote' actually has lots of good points, far from perfect but at least it's moving forward, I think you should too.
I agree with quintus someone makes sense i think theres a section of gamers out there maybe the ones who call themselves Hardcore think gaming should only be for them.
They say things like the PS3 and Xbox 360 is for gamers and real off a list of FPs's if thats what gaming is to them then gamings gonna get very stale.
The Wii may not be perfect but i as a Gamer whos played since Atari 2600 days havnt enjoyed gaming so much as i have since those days and Wii has brought that back.
People want gaming accepted by the masses and then slam a console for tryin to get the masses invovled.
Diomedes1977 and the likes with comments no wonder gamers have bad press along with his waggle control comment and mrebe's Normal gamepad these sorts of thinkin which makes a stale market.
Nintendo thought of it and i would say the same if it was Microsoft or sony had come with the Idea but they Know the future is no longer in Graphics but in the way we Control our Games.
The as these People say Normal Gamepad has had its day we are not gonna Grow any more Fingers to press more Buttons but Still there will be the few Diehards that will find it hard to let go of there pads and Embrace the future of Controls.
Nintendos May not be perfect but its step in the right Direction and the other 2 no Doubt have new methods of control in the works.
Embrace New Games New Controls time to refresh the stale Market of FPS's who ever Makes them.
What all PS3 & Xbox owners fail to realise is that both these machines will use "Wiimote" controllers in their next machines guarenteed. Sony are still copying the SNES controller for christs sake because they can't come up with a decent one themselves. Gaming has changed and most people realise now that just playing GTA with slightly better graphics is dead. The only reason Wii has any competition is because Nintendo did not feel HD graphics were as important as playability. If Wii was HD then Xbox and PS3 would be dead as a a Jaguar already.
I agree with clownferret - the next generation of consoles will all provide motion control. You can mock the Wii for not having HD graphics and a weak processor, but it is going to be a lot easier for Nintendo to catch up than Microsoft or Sony.
Sony and Microsoft are not advocates of hard core gamers - they are advocates of profit and they will be foolhardy to neglect the casual gamer.
Looking at Sony - I think they have been caught with their pants down and may end up like Atari's consoles. They are betting that people do not want to upgrade their hardware every few years. No way is the PS3 going to have a 10 year lifecycle... I seriously even doubt blu-ray will have a five year lifecycle!
Microsoft is in a good position to release a fine next console much earlier than Sony would dare to !
I also think Nintendo are setting themselves up for a spectacular fail with their next console. I can see casual gamers not wanting to move away from the Wii *** EVER *** and their obsession with what they think the gamer wants rather than what the gamer is asking for is a worry trend.
I have a feeling that Nintendo will do just fine with thier next machine. There will be a enough hype and marketing tricks thrown into the pot that the casual market will eat it up.
If i remember rightly when the wii was first released it was mostly core gamers that ate it up. I know i did.
I think the real hardcore amoungst us. Those of us who actually grew up with gaming in the 80s realise the feelings that the wii brings back.
Its a console that has attempted to strip away all the bells and whistles and make it fresh and fun again.
If they want to change the way games are controlled they more than have the right. Pretty much every joypad owes something to nintendo one way or another.
Bar the triggers on the xbox pads, they're segas doing.
Yup. Wait until every other company has their own version of the Wiimote. Microsoft are adding more casual titles to their library also. They are taking a leaf out of Nintendo's book there.. Although Sony kinda started the casual thing with singstar etc.
I'm a 'hardcore' gamer and I love the Wii, I love the idea of it, the potential for the amazing experiences that are possible if they get true 1:1 motion controls working. Sure, there's a lot of crappy games for the console, but there's lots of crappy games coming out for the Xbox 360 and PS3. At least with the Wii it's easy to tell what's going to be bad. I get really really sick of looking at screenshots and whatnot for PS3 and Xbox 360 games only to have them turn out to be truly lackluster like Too Human and Last Remnant.
