Top XBL games of '08 revealed

Microsoft's official Xbox Live mouthpiece, Major Nelson, has coughed up the final word on what was the most played game on Xbox Live in 2008.

If you remember the almost-weekly stories about how the most played game kept swinging between Halo 3 and Call Of Duty (Modern Warfare and then World At War) then first and second place won't come as any surprise. Or will it? Nah...

Here's the top 20 Live games of 2008:

  2. Call of Duty 4

  4. Gears of War 2
  5. Gears of War
  6. CoD: World at War
  7. Guitar Hero III
  8. Battlefield: Bad Company Demo

We think putting Fable II in at 11 is a bit of a cheat as the game automatically logs you in to Live so you can watch orbs floating around your single-player game. Lots of demo action in there too. Tell us what your favourite Live games of '08 were below in the comments.

COD4 easily. Just couldn't get into Halo 3 depite giving it a good go.

And COD4 is still better than World at War, but since that's what all my mates are playing these days, I've got little choice!

I personally played much more Halo to Cod4, i just get burned out on it after a few months and can never really get back into it, tho i am enjoying playing COD:WaW. Good to see Gears high up, considering in only came out in November.

I prefer world at war and i cant pinpoint why, I dont even like ww2 shooters
