It may come as a surprise that, as Nintendo continues to dominate the TV console market, Sony's PS3 is more widely used for internet browsing.
Both consoles feature capable browsers that are compatible with some of the most widely used online entertainment portals, such as the BBC iPlayer and YouTube, yet business statistics group Market Share shows that a larger percentage of internet traffic is delivered through Sony's machine.
The PS3's browser has a 0.04 share of the 'internet market', a miniscule proportion when compared to, say, the PC's 88.7 percent majority, yet it's a figure which sits comfortably ahead of the Wii's 0.01 percent.
Worldwide estimates number the Wii's global userbase at some 44 million, more than double the estimated 19 million PS3s sold internationally. The contrasts in web traffic bring to light the demographic trends in both audiences, with PS3 owners generally being considered more embedded in tech and game culture than most Wii owners.
I assume they got it by tracking the number of browser connections each machine logs.
Free will certainly help on the PS3 front, but I think it's more likely that most Wii users simply don't know that it's available.
Remember who you're talking about here - they want 10 minutes of "gaming" here and there. Not the kind of person who'll bother registering their Nintendo points and certainly not the kind of person who will poke around in the software section of the shop looking for stuff to install.
the web browser on the wii was free for about six months if i remember rightly. If you got the trial version of it you were guarenteed the full for free.
The problem with the wii browser is it only has limited flash support and is overall a little bit pants.
The version of BBC Iplayer for it works pretty well though.
i can add a mouse and keyboard 2 my ps3. Not so sure abt the wii but thts a huge thing i guess. anyways i'll just use my PC for PC things
you can use a keyboard with the wii why bother with a mouse when the wiimote works just as well.
Because using the Wiimote and Keyboard has got to be more awkward than keyboard and mouse. Also a Wiimote isn't calibrated so a mouse can offer precision
I'm using ps3 for BBC iplayer, youtube and gametrailers at the mo. Great watching this stuff on a 42" plasma rather than my piddly 19" pc screen. Wish apple trailers and itv catchup work on it too though
I still consider the wii a novelty item that is why I given my niece it was fun for a short period but after that I didn't have a use for it. Don't want to start a flame war. Can't say I used my ps3's web browser at all but I hear there is a site you can visit and get lots of programs and films that support the browser perfectly. www.tvshack.net I think. peace folks
As a Wii and PS3 owner I have an unbiased opinion. The free internet on the Wii is fine, but I think there are more people online for the PS3. Without online most PS3 games (like Call of Duty) are poor. The reason why I finnaly got online was to play COD4 online, not to play on the Wii.
if you can't point at something you have something seriously wrong with you. Also you can calibrate the wiimote just as well as a mouse.
then why are they releasing smthg 2 add to the remote to increase its accuracy? srry not really up-to-date on the wii but im pretty sure its not even close 2 the precision of a mouse
I don't have the Internet Channel on the Wii purely cos I don't have the space whereas my PS3 browser fits on to a decent sized storage Plus the PS3 browser is just faster and better.

Motion-plus is for motion sensing only, the pointer is pretty much flawless. The on-screen keyboard helps make the living room tidier too.
