Microsoft has dismissed reports that it's planning to use Sony's PS3 virtual world Home to host business meetings.
"Microsoft will not be using Home as a tool for virtual meetings," the company told us following a recent report to the contrary.
Last week GAAP claimed MS would be one of a number of big companies using Home for meetings in a bid to reduce costs and carbon emissions, but according to the platform holder it's perfectly capable of staging its own virtual bashes.
"With fantastic Microsoft-developed products and applications like Live Meeting and even Xbox Live Party, we have everything we need to host a virtual meeting in-house," it said.
We were sceptical about the original report, and clearly with good reason.
What a ridiculous story. Why the hell would they use Home? The usefulness for business meetings is extremely limited. What if they want to share an application, show a PowerPoint etc.? As they say, just use Office Live Meeting.
Maybe you could use Home if you are setting up a secret society or something equally as lame, but grown-ups use appshare tools.
A pity, I would have dusted my PS3 down, taken my copy of Uncharted out of the drive and logged onto home to see the ghosted figures of the MS execs saying how wonderful home was, watch them look at all the features, how they must implement them all into live and then join them in the theatre for a pointless trailer followed by a refreshing virtual drink in the lounge.
Thats if I don't have to download 40Mb at each step. If it was my Home I would rather be selling the Big Issue.
