'MS wants Radiant Silvergun on XBLA'

Classic shooter requested for Xbox Live revamp, reveals Treasure boss
Ikaruga is easily the best scrolling shooter on Xbox Live Arcade, so it's no surprise to hear that Microsoft's quite keen to get its critically acclaimed Sega Saturn predecessor, Treasure's Radiant Silvergun, onto Xbox Live too.

Speaking in an interview with Gamasutra, Treasure CEO Masato Maegawa revealed that Microsoft has asked for a port of the awesome classic shoot'em-up, though the developer hasn't decided whether to do it or not. Muppets...

"Microsoft actually asked us if we could put it out," he said. "We're thinking about it, certainly, but it's not as simple as just saying 'OK, let's put it up.' I mean, sure, with Ikaruga, we released it as-is without having to do or add a great deal to the game, and it was popular and well accepted for what it was.

"But if you play Radiant Silvergun nowadays, it's certainly aged in assorted ways, and I'm not sure they're all good," he added.

Silvergun was released in Japan for the Saturn in 1998, but never made it to North America or Europe. In that way it's arguably even more desirable than Ikaruga, which was released in the West on GameCube and Dreamcast.

"I think we'd definitely like to see it out there," added Maegawa. "But the situation around that game is a bit different from Ikaruga, so I don't know if we'd see it on [Xbox Live]."

Fingers crossed.

after having the privlage of playing this game and finishing it, i can say this, treasure do what you can to get this game on live soon, a whole 2 generations of western gamers havnt sampled this amazing game because of the jap only nature of it. It needs a release now and heck it will push up the price of the orginal too boot.

say somethings been covered in tar, it would be tared, right. So if Treasure was covered in tar one and the tarring was then redone....

Anyway, RELEASE RADIANT SILVERGUN, you bunch of mugs, don't you want our money!

I'd love to see this. Good work Microsoft if it happens.

I would LOVE to be able to play this on my Xbox 360. For my money it's better than Ikaruga.

My copy for the Saturn was an ex-magazine review copy on a development disk which required a Black Saturn System disk to play. I lent both disks to a mate a couple of years ago and he accidentally drove his chair over the system disk after dropping it, snapping it in half! So I can no longer play my copy on my Saturn. Surprised(

I can understand the difficulty in porting it to 360 though. Whereas Ikaruga always ran on 3D hardware and was faily easy to move to other 3D hardware, Silvergun was written using Saturn's VDP2 background hardware, which makes it very different kettle of fish to convert to a full 3D system.

Would be great to see a full blown sequel too, but Treasure rarely (if ever) do that.

Without doubt the best shooter of all time and considering the wealth of great games in this genre, that's saying a lot about how extraordinary it is

I remember not being all that impressed upon my first of viewing RS but it was actually less about the eye candy and more about how you might tackle each section

Anyway genius and 100% worth buying a 360 for were this to arrive

Would it's release surely make the enormous RS ebay asking prices less as a result?
