Ubi readies new Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six

New shooters to break cover this year, CVG learns
Ubisoft is to reveal new instalments in the acclaimed Tom Clancy shooting franchises, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six this year, sources have told CVG.

According to our secret mouthpiece, both Clancy games will be announced by the French publisher later this year and there's every chance they could even release this side of Christmas.

What's not clear is whether or not the new games will be continuations of current-gen spin-offs Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Rainbow Six Vegas, or entirely new entries.

The two-year span since the last Ghost Recon suggests an entirely new start for that series, and frankly we'd be surprised to see a third RS Vegas.

Ubisoft declined to comment when contacted.

I look forward to seeing a new Ghost Recon on the 360, the last 2 games were great IMO.

I only played GRAW2 but enjoyed both playthroughs of it. I like the cover and squad tactics. It's how I always imagined Gears multiplayer should be Smile
Dajmin on 7 Jan '09
Theyre becoming like EA, churning out yearly releases for their successful franchises, grr, even though Graw2 is great it will get completely diluted by GRAW 5 in 2 years time
lmimmfn on 7 Jan '09
No sorry....no more shooters, we have filled our quota now move along please.

Exept for KZ2 of course, you can come in.
rick on 7 Jan '09
I don't understand people moaning all the time about franchises. The games industry is a business and these companies need to sustain a regular income otherwise they wont be in business and wont be able to finance other new I.P.

Personally I would love to see a new GRAW and R6 as I enjoyed both games in their previous versions. I do agree that these companies can't be lazy with franchises, they should come with something fresh each time or not bother at all i.e the last three NFS'!

Met so many great people through Ghost Recon on Xbox and Xbox360 online, for me there is no better multiplayer experience.

All the Call of Dutys and Halo's dont come close,i just hope it is before Christmas, best news this year.

Wake me when Ubisoft finally announces something concrete about a new Splinter Cell coming this year.

I'd like to see a new Ghost recon with a cover system more like R6. I have NO need for more R6 Vegas games. Oh and fix the BS terrorist spawning in behind you flaw.
horngreen on 7 Jan '09
I own GRAW 1 for the PC and I was initially very excited to play it but my enthusiasm quickly drained away in what was a sterile and unpopulated gaming world. The streets were empty except for the occassional bad guy and my squad mates. There were few, if any, background noises despite starting out in a tightly packed downtown area of a Mexican or Latin American city. Was GRAW 2 any better? I haven't played it so I'm curious if Ubisoft improved in that regard.

..or someone who likes Splinter Cell. I could quite easily argue someone who doesn't have access to the Thief games would play MGS4.

Like I said: Troll.

everyone has access to a pc. but must wont want to play s**t and obscure games like THIEF!! much like noone would want to play splinter cell.. cause its s**t, championing that game is more to do with envy of its "rival" than any merits of its own. we all know its a rip off, and a bad one at that.

thief and MGS, theres two peas in a pod... dumbass!

Cant wait for the new Ghost Recon! Rainbow Six though, that can go suck my dick. Cant believe i wasted money on that piece of trash Vegas.

Your a f**king idiot. Splinter cell is far more stealth focused than MGS. MGS can be played a load of ways, but its stealth doesnt match Splinter Cells. Not that im trying to defend it or anything, MGS is one of my favourite franchises. But what you said is stupid. I love MGS, yet i loved Pandora tomorrow.
Also, Thief >>>>>>> your fat face. So f**k off you hippy.
gazza_be on 7 Jan '09
I really hope they reinvent the Rainbow 6 series. The Vegas titles were nothing more than GRAW in different clothes in my opinion.

I would like to see a return to hostage rescues, stealth recon missions and a better CQB combat system.

Another idea might be getting Mr Clancy to actually pen the stories this time around. The end of Vegas 2 was a complete joke.

im an idiot because splinter cell is far more focused on stealth?!

or just because its a s**te game? sam 3 eyed fisher. that game is the biggest chore ever. it is tedius toss, truely a load of guff. face it.

nothing more than an attempt to cash in on one of the biggest game franchises ever.
svd_grasshopper on 7 Jan '09
Looking forward to both of these. You can see the improvement on the first one of each title, so the 3rd should be awesome. R6V2 was awesome online, the 3rd should be brilliant!!

Fingers crossed they turn out good!

I have to disagree with you there. Both Thief AND Splinter Cell implement stealth as the backbone of their gameplay. They out do MGS stealth wise from a great height!

And MGS4 was my favourite game of last year.
nottsville on 7 Jan '09
Hmm, I loved rainbow 6 vegas 1 (still think its one of the best MP games this gen), however R6V2 was awful, so much for a sequel, it barely qualified as an expansion. Hopefully the new Rainbow game will actually be a new game and not an old one in new clothes.

As for Ubi, pull your finger out and give us some info about splinter cell, its one of my favourite series of all time (and far better than MGS stealth wise). Oh and announce it for the ps3 please Very Happy

Interesting. I was under the impression that PC gaming was "too expensive" for "most gamers" which is why some gamers picked consoles (others picked up a console for other reasons and some have both console(s) and a PC,) yet here you are proclaiming everyone has access to a PC (which isn't empirically true btw,). Question is does everyone have access to a solid *gaming* PC? As for "Thief" that is indeed a venerable PC title these days but perhaps it would behoove you to remember that what we have today is tied to what came before. Finally, "we all know"? Excuse me but I'm quite capable of representing myself, thanks.
The_KFD_Case on 7 Jan '09
I really hope they make another GRAW, i loved those games and still do.
CrippledHooba on 7 Jan '09
I'm firmly in the Splinter Cell camp for stealth gameplay. Again, nobody's disputing MGS' greatness, I've still got the original MSX MG1 & 2 for crying out loud but Splinter Cell is real-world stealth and I've held my breath countless times as a guard walked past only an inch away, as opposed to knowing they'd never find me under this here cardboard box...

Oh yeah, and GRAW could maybe do with one more but I think a change in setting would be welcome and appropriate, maybe a step back from all the super high-tech gadgets and weaponry and a return to good ol' fashioned recon and assault? Or would that just be tedious too?

Seconded! The Ghost Recon series is my favourite shooter franchise by far.

Can't wait to get back into a game of Bling Siege. Cool

Well more RB6 will be nice. But more vegas? Come on! how often are they going to hit that damn place?

Some other location or maybe other global locations will be nice.
