20 Disgaea 3 screens

Square shows PS3 some love
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, the PS3-exclusive strategy RPG from Square Enix, will be on UK shelves from February 20 and we've got some new screens to show you.

The two previous renditions on PS2 fared pretty well, and the PS3 version looks to stick pretty much to the same formula. So much so, in fact, that even the jagged sprites and super low-res textures look they were ripped straight out of a PS2 game.

Not ideal, especially for a full Blu-ray release, but its gameplay over graphics, right?

From Square Enix

Eh? Correct me if im wrong but im sure its from Nippon Ichi.

& damn straight its gameplay over graphics for this. Anyone who plays Disgaea knows its a masterpiece. Still shame it hasnt got lovely HD 2D visuals. That is disappointing.

PS2? I think you mean PS1, the graphics on everything but the stages are reminiscent of grandia, breath of fire 3, vandal hearts.

Keep the rubbishy 2d look but why not in HD.

Original was amazing by the way to all those who haven't played it. Amazed me why they bothered with a story though. You could tune your character to literally be thousands of times more powerful than needed to complete the game.

I think Square Enix may be publishing it over here. Nippon Ichi develop it. Looking forward to this!

f**king love the disgaea series. Been playing this on import for a while and its more of the same, but not in a bad way.

I don't think square have anything to do with it. They don't publish games and the american version was made by nippon ichi and published by atlus.

same as every other game nippon ichi make.

get your facts straight CVG!

Just done a bit of digging around, turns out Square Enix are indeed publishing the game in Europe. Thats a surprise, its normaly KOIE or Atlus.

Although it would be nice for you to give Nippon Ichi some credit in the article CVG. It is them that actualy do all the hardwork & make the game, not just publish it. Smile

Surely they could have just released this on the PSP? I am quite aware that the gameplay is brilliant, if you are into strategy RPG's, but those visuals would make me want to cry - especially when owning an HD telly.

I am not a graphics whore, but come on, that looks ancient!

I'm with Mark on this one. Graphics don't sell a game, but they can keep you involved. And you can't deny that the odd "wow" moment in games keeps you interested.

But text dialogue and sprites? On a Blu-ray disc? What are they doing with the other 49.3Gb?

Indeed the game would fit on a CD. I would like to see more retro rpgs like the old PS1 rpgs if they were of this style it wouldnt bother me. Theres millions who would splash out on Final Fantasy (insert number) if it was re-released and yet they leave them untouched why I have to ask. The DS will be the eventual beneficiary albeit with rehashes of old franshises rather than re-releases.

If they put Final fantasy 7,8,9 on the PSN I'm getting it! Suikoden 1,2 I'm getting it! Breath of Fire 3,4 day one I'd get it. All these games have a potential to sell millions and they don't release em. Having the best back catalogue of any of the 3 console maufacturers is an asset and one that Sony seem determined not to exploit.

i'm really surprised that the disgaea series hasn't moved wholesale to nintendo. The ds version of the original is definately my favourite, not only because its disgaea on the go, but because it really benefitted from the touch screen controls.

Considering the series has never been about graphics but pure gameplay and humour it'd be great for the wii.

considering atlus is already giving the console a lot of support already it isn't too much of a stretch. right?

Never played the game but I don't think it's about graphics but more about stats and complicated scoring systems. It's a complicated little beast of a game but it has some really, really dedicated fans.
voodoo341 on 8 Jan '09
about as complicated as any other turn based rts is.

If stacking comannds and then watching your troops do them is complicated. select troop, choose enemy. select attack. repeat a couple times. hit go. watch carnage.

not too complicated really.

you should probably not give it a go. your brain might be forced to do some actual thinking while playing instead of just hitting the trigger button or mindlessly jabbing x to attack.

Not sure it could take the shock. Razz

i was just wondering monkey why the need for a personal attack? voodoo made a coment that was entirly his opinion which your free to disagree with, but instead you become so offended that you feel the need to verbally attack him! i was just wondering why??
