EA's revealed plans to release Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising, a single-player campaign expansion exclusively for the PC, this March.
Here's the official blurb:
An epic single-player campaign expansion, the standalone title catapults players deeper into the Red Alert universe, giving them more of the action-packed gameplay they have been clamoring for, while offering a gauntlet of new and compelling challenges with the new Commander's Challenge mode.
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising takes players into the aftermath of the epic battles in Red Alert 3, with the Soviets still reeling from a crushing defeat, the Empire of the Rising Sun desperately trying to regain both honor and identity and the seemingly victorious Allies finding themselves in the midst of corruption and deceit within their own ranks.
In addition to four mini-campaigns, one for each faction and one bonus campaign centered on the origins of the Empire of the Rising Sun's commando Yuriko, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising will also introduce the new Commander's Challenge, enabling the players to test their skills against a set of nine commanders from different territories and difficulty levels in 50 unique challenges with their own special rules and unique conditions.
In typical Command & Conquer fashion, top talent (acting and otherwise) will play its part in the game, which means you'll be able to watch more of the returning Gemma Atkinson and Ivana Milicevic delivering the story in full HD live-action cinematics, alongside an "all new set of stars".
"Uprising is a game that in many ways reflects the feedback we have gotten from the Command & Conquer community," said Amer Ajami, senior producer at EA Los Angeles.
"We're giving gamers more of what they want - more of the fast, fluid and fun gameplay, more of the story we began to tell in Red Alert 3 and more cutscenes featuring top-notch Hollywood talent. At the same time, we're excited we're going to be able to bring new things to the mix, including new units and the Commander's Challenge, which is a great way for players to hone their skills and get deeper into the combat."
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 was sadly let down by its comic approach. The cartoon graphics were a bit of shock after battling my way through C&C 3 and it's excellent addon which both looked fantastic, using proper future-tech, realisticly depicted environments.
Also, I'm not a fan of the SubCommander at all, it ruins the game.
Don't get me wrong, I am still playing C&C RA3, but it's not as fun as C&C 3 was. Role on C&C 4!!
I'm really enjoying the comic approach myself. I got it for christmas. I haven't been a fan of these fast paced rts games before really, but the interesting story and funny cut scenes persuaded me to get this over, say, CnC3. However I'm not quite ready for an expansion
shocking, not. I'll wait until they bundle the two and I get both for the price of one because EA bundling retail game and expansion, noooo... It's like Generals and then Zero Hour, specific generals and a "new" challenge mode. Seriously do they think their fans don't pay attention?! Hey sounds like lots of fun I guess.
I really do love RA3, ok so the control system and logistics are dated, but for those who remember the First RA game (I still have mine!!), it will be loved. I really like the graphics they show the game how it should do, and I disagree that it looks comic book, it is how an RTS should look, and still looks modern too. Compare it to Dawn of War or Supreme Commander and of course RA3 is much different but still a very good game that is thoroughly enjoyable.
I haven't played an RTS in years but I have to say I've really enjoyed RA3. The tongue in cheek attitude really makes the whole thing more and accessible. I've not finished all the missions yet but I'm already looking forward to the expansion, although the mention of "mini-campaigns" and an alternative play mode worries me slightly. I hope they'll be great, but I'd be quite happy with just more missions and FMV for each faction.
Meh, I felt RA3 was a let down. I still play RA2 and much prefer it. I think the move away from the GI's and they're sandbags was a mistake, as well as getting rid of the weather machine, electrocuting russians was so fun!
RA3 is a real shame. One gets impression they made it for little boys. It's pity WESTWOOD is not doing these games anymore. EA misses the whole point...
